If we're still doing controversial opinions, "Iron Man 3" is a top 5 Marvel film for how soundly it rejects all the Marvel trappings. Aside from the big CGI explosion fest at the end, the way it treats Tony as the focus instead of Iron Man is the kind of thing more superhero films should adopt.

Also, I have a feeling that if you didn't like "Iron Man 3", you didn't like "The Last Jedi."

Feels like the MCU's entire MO is examining the people under the mask.

Thats a big Marvel thing in general. Spider-Man is always more about Peter Parker, Iron Man has these struggles between Tony Stark and alcohol. Thats what it makes rateable.

Basically. Just commenting that I don't think that's exclusive to Iron Man 3, even if that movie takes it to a whole different level.

Man, top 5 is so tough with the MCU. It probably depends on what day you ask me or what my mood is. For now, I'd say:

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (The GOAT superhero movie)
2. Thor Ragnarok
3. Spider-Man: Homecoming
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
5. Captain America: The First Avenger (Yea yea... I know this one is an odd one for top 5. I have a soft spot for it - I've seen it at least 10 times. I thoroughly enjoy it every time).

Common rotations back into the top 5 would be Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and Ant-Man. BP, in particular, needs more time to marinate. I still haven't seen it a 2nd time but enjoyed it immensely the first time.

My top five would be

1) Captain America: Winter Soldier
2) Captain America: Civil War
3) Iron Man 3
4) Thor: Ragnorak
5) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

The superhero spy action and relentless pacing of Winter Soldier puts it over every other movie in the franchise for me, not to mention how it changed my opinion of Cap as a hero and character

GOTG2 is excessively goofy, but that's a consequence of the characters being emotionally stunted. They're not trying to be funny (well, Rocket is), they just aren't capable of having adult conversations. Which is funny, but not in the same way Tony Stark or Spider-Man are funny. You laugh at the Guardians, not with them.

1) GOTG2
2) GOTG
3) Avengers
4) The First Avenger
5) Iron Man 3

Black Panther might sneak in there. Was really let down by the last act but I'd like to rewatch and see how it feels knowing the full picture. The first half was Top 5 material for sure.

Pretty compelling evidence regarding The Eternals rumor: https://www.newsarama.com/38669-gaiman-romita-s-eternals-rushed-back-to-print-by-marvel.html

Basically Marvel is reprinting the Gaiman/JRJR Eternals run from 2006. But instead of doing it the normal way, they are fast tracking the release for next week. They usually want to have books out in stores regarding whatever characters are in the MCU. Sorta like them doing the DnA GotG Omnibus right before the first GotG movie.

I want to apologize to ManaByte btw for what im sure he felt was an attack on his standing here.

Iron Man 3 is a mess. A fun, entertaining and at times awesome mess but it's a bad Iron Man movie.

But a good Tony Stark movie.

That's been my opinion on it for quite a while. He spends little time Iron Man-ing but works through his trauma and shows himself to be a hero inside and outside of the suit(s). I love me some flashy suit action but IM3 is a solid story of his character growth and by no means terrible.

IM3 is one of my favorites. It might be a bit too long but its got some great Tony beats and coming off the high of Avengers, it's a very personal and small story which was much needed.

I agree. I like IM3 more and more each time I see it. While I enjoy IM and IM2 as movies, they didn't do much to actually make me like Tony Stark (the man). IM3 went a long way towards changing that opinion, for me.

Sure, but I disagree with the direction they took the character in that movie. I get that they were trying to show that Tony is Iron Man, with or without his suits, but Iron Man isn't just Tony or just the tech. It's the fusion of both and the movie's central message, that Tony is just as capable without his tech is undermined by the ending because the tech itself is just as capable on autopilot as it is with Tony using it. As much flak as Iron Man 2 gets for its sloppy MCU universe building, it had the right idea about Iron Man: "The suit and I are one", Tony said at the hearing. Iron Man is Tony plus the suit. Rhodey and the suit, Hammer and his tech, Vanko and his tech, they aren't Iron Man because both parts are essential in creating the whole.

Any top 3 MCU movies should be:

Spider-Man Homecoming
Civil War
Avengers

In any order (the one above is mine), but those three. It is known.

I don't think the bolded is really true. We see Tony's drones get destroyed often and easily in IM3 and Age of Ultron. The autopilot is clearly no substitute for Tony himself, which is a large part of why Tony's retirement -- at both the end of IM3 and the end of AoU -- doesn't stick, despite his efforts otherwise.

Avengers, while great, isn't even in my top 5. It's probably number 6 tho.

Currently my top 7 is feeling like this:
CA:WS
CA:CW
BP
Thor:R
SM:HC
Avengers
GotG2

^ Does japan has any problem with Black Panther?
I wonder why they used this render for T'Challa instead the one with the suit

and why the hell marvel hates Don Cheadle so much they using the same picture with the same lame position with the same dying face?

Put my coworker who's Kenyan on to Black Panther when the movie dropped. Today she asked me "hey, did you see they have a new Avengers coming out and Black Panther is in it?"

Did I see? So cute.

jfc. With a decent chance to go even higher than that I bet?

Anyway, my top 5. Still have to rewatch GotG 2 and Ragnarok, but:

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. Iron Man
3. Captain America: Winter Soldier
4. Ant-Man
5. GotG Vol 2

Yes Ant-Man is very high but I love that movie a lot and a rewatch only cemented its place. In terms of relatable character dynamics it's a highlight.

Making a top five is tricky as hell after how good 2017 was. But i'll say:

1. Black Panther
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
3. Thor: Ragnarok
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
5. Captain America: Civil War

FUCK, phase 3's been phenomenal. It's crazy to think just a few years back they were releasing stuff like The Dark World and Age of Ultron.

Anyone doing the Infinity War fan event?

I picked up IMAX 3D tickets for Thursday night, but the fan event is at 6:00 PM the same day (an hour before my showtime). It's RealD 3D that comes with a free medium popcorn.

Yes. I did it for Black Panther for the coin and I'm doing it for IW as well. Also going again on Saturday in my favorite auditorium there.

Ant Man is great. It gets way too much undeserved hate from people on the Internet who want to be Edgar Wright's white knights.

And it has so many good side characters, I loved the entire cast and especially Pym and Luis.

The main cast is great and is relatable, because the characters have all messed up to some extent, or had to deal with some emotional trauma. Lang lost his family and had an uphill battle after being jailed. Hank always had to live in Stark's shadow, wanted the best for his invention and had to cope with losing his wife. Hope had a strained relationship with her father, but after Scott gets thrown in the mix, they're all healed and better off to some extent. Scott was expandable at first, but now he's not anymore. With all this going on I don't think it matters that much that the villain is a bit weak, because the superheroics actually take a backseat in this, since it's more character- than action-driven. But what we do have... is still really cool! The train finale is still fantastic and the heist is too.

Movies like Ant-Man are why I don't get why people say that 'all MCU movies feel the same'. They've always done a good job at giving each hero that gets his movie its own feel and style.

Top 5 MCU for me in no particular order:

- Thor Ragnarok
- The Avengers
- Winter Soldier
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Black Panther

Ant-Man, First Avenger, and GotG2 are on my "underappreciated" list

Speaking of Ant-Man, we're probably due for a second Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer soon right? Either next week or the week after?
