Really strange. Tried re-saving which didn't work. Neither did masking the graphic smaller within the 200x200px (thought it may have something to do with pixels on the very edges). I'd post the bug to the Technical Issues thread.
Whether having visible pixels at the very edges of the 200x200px affected anything. Tried some other tests such as cropping to 200x199 / 199x200 but still nothing (making sure the filesize was still under 50KB).
Thing is, I've tested other graphics with alpha at 200x200 and it uploads. The last avy I linked someone to was 48KB (just fitted within the limits as a 32-bit PNG), and the forum handled it as well, but the dimensions of that were 194x200px.

for some reason 200x200 doesn't work sometimes, but 192 does all the time.
192x192 is the spot it seems

hello talented people! i was wondering if anyone would be able to remove the white from around emil and make it transparent?

I tried, man. This is the first one I've done, and I did it more to see if I could do it or not. I bet someone can do a way better job (and if so please do).
Anyway, it's avatar sized, and transparent. Maybe it works for you?
This was a bit more challenging than usual and really cemented my hate of working with hair :P

I would have removed the speech bubble bit myself, but I didn't know if that would cause an issue for a transparent background. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Just going back to the image sizing issue again for a sec, I only just noticed after inspecting Laughing Banana's avy that despite providing a 194x200px image RE resized it to 192x198px (I originally thought the slight blurriness of the site-hosted copy was due to some stylesheet scaling but apparently not), so there is definitely some weirdness occurring—even when the dimension/filesize requirements are met.
yeah something weird is definitely happening. when you click on my avatar you can see how clear it is, while on my posts it looks a little blurry. it's weird.
What's the best size for avatars again? 70x70 or was it 160x160? I forgot. Trying to resize an avatar of mine.
Edit: Wait, I just made my avatar's background transparent on photoshop, but it isn't transparent on era, what gives?
Edit: Managed to fix that by making it an PNG and less than 50kb, yet it looks too small, ah screw it, could any of you guys resize it for me?

I just optimise them for the forum view, 100x120px. It works best imo.

Yours was already transparent so it was fairly easy. I use CS6 so l cropped the bottom a little so the final image size will be 100x120, resize using Bicubic sharper from the drop down options.
Making avatars usually washes out the colors when you resize them to make them smaller so l usually adjust the exposure, offset and gamma.
Maybe adjust the vibrance and saturation and then sharpen it up here and there if it needs it.
Then l mostly check it against the light and dark themes, if its all ok l use the save for web option and save as PNG-24.
Theres lots of other stuff l might do but it depends on the image really.

Just dawned on me that the file size was slightly too large on the avatar version to work with this website, so if you tried to use it and it said "File size to large" then this version will fix your problem. Sorry about that.
