March 22 marks the 22nd anniversary of RE. If only there was something with a 2 in its title to talk about.

Outbreak File #2? um yes plz.

Haha, I've actually been playing Outbreak Online with my friend again and I really, really miss this game. I'll never not be extremely sad that they never released File #3.

I was doing an Invisible Enemy, Knife Only playthrough of REmake (Happy 22nd Biiirthday RE) to get those trophies out in one go and decided to stream the last 40-50 mins from Lisa Trevor onwards.

If you're interested my archive of it is here.

I hadn't played the original Resident Evil before because I've started the series with RE3 back in the day and later on I just played the REmake instead (I've played RE2 later on the gamecube).

Today I've got the urge to play it for some reason. Fired it up with a nice CRT sharder and... it holds much better than I imagined in both graphics and gameplay!

It's really interesting that I have always read about how people got their expectations bitting their asses in REmake because of the things that were similar but not quite the same and the same is happening to me now but in reverse lol

This is gonna be fun. This and Code Veronica are the only main line games that I missed, but I'll wait for a PC or Switch version to play CV I think.

Finally getting around to playing Resident Evil 7 for the first time. Wow, I'm really impressed. Only about 3 hours in but I'm loving it so far. Game looks surprisingly really good on a regular PS4.

Playing makes me really want to replay the entire series, mostly from a story/lore standpoint. I know the RE games aren't known for the story, but I remember some of the lore being pretty interesting.

How do the other games hold up on Steam? I'd pick up RE/0 remake on Steam, and Steam also has a 4/5/6 bundle.

They all hold up very well. Regardless if you get them on Steam or PS4.
On consoles REmake and RE0 are locked to 30 FPS. But on PC you can make them get to 60FPS. As well as mod out the door screens. RE0 definitely got more love in its remaster since they had the entire game on hand. While REmake they lost some of the data. The HD remasters are still the best way to play those two titles though.

RE4-6 is pretty much the same. RE4 & 6 on consoles pretty much always hold 60FPS and only RE5 sometimes dips to an obviously lower framerate (Though that might've been patched). On PC you'll get everything you need with the best performance. Though RE5 has a weird thing where the DLC is a seperate purchase (While it's included on consoles). So you need to wait for a sale to get the best deals on the PC versions of the games. Also you don't need the deluxe version of RE6. It's just MP stuff.

Do any of the games have the option to skip the door animations? I felt like I remember at least one of the games did, might have been the GameCube version of RE3 or something.

I know - hoping for a Steam sale soon for RE games myself. Want to pick up 0, 4-6 as I do a series re-playthrough. Playing through RE7 for the first time and damn, it's so good. Forgot how much I love this series.

What's the best way to play 2, 3, and Code Veronica these days? The only 3 games I haven't played.

I guess PSN if you don't have the original hardware for all three games (I personally like playing those 3 on the Dreamcast).

As Selina said the PSN versions are fine if you want the easiest route. 2 & 3 can be played on PS3, PSP, and Vita. Most say that the best versions of 2 & 3 are the Dreamcast versions with the GameCube second if you want to dust off old systems.

When it comes to code Veronica you have a lot of options as well. Typically so long as it's the CVX version you're good. I prefer the HD version on 360/PS3. But some complain that it's too dark. So they prefer the PS2 version which is also a PS2 on PS4 classic. I don't think you can go wrong with either and would just recommend grabbing whatever is cheaper. When it comes to RE on consoles and digitally. That's my biggest recommendation outside RE 4-6 and Rev 2 where the performance of 60fps is worth the higher price.

for the Western release, gamecube version of resident evil 3 is the only version Jill can kick off a zombie's head. other versions in the west were nerfed.

I think I've said this before but if anyone here is looking to play classic Resident Evils on older consoles, avoid PAL Gamecube versions of RE2, RE3 and CVX and the same goes for PS2 version of CVX (I don't know if RE1-3 PAL versions on PS1 offer 60hz as an option)... Unless you really want to play 50hz versions. Dreamcast is the best option in this case as RE2 and RE3 PAL versions support 60hz with VGA. Code Veronica unfortunately is still 50hz even on the Dreamcast. Also as an added bonus the Dreamcast VMU features are a great addition especially with RE2 as it shows your health and ammo in real time during gameplay. One last thing to note is that Dreamcast and Gamecube versions of classic REs are pretty expensive these days.

GameCube versions of 2 & 3 are to my knowledge the only ones that let you skip cutscenes, which is pretty great for replays or speedruns. Also I think RE3 GC is the only one with non wobbly polygons for the characters.

3 is my least replayed Resident Evil. I'm not entirely sure why but I just don't have many urges to replay it, I've only replayed it once. It might have something to do with how Nemesis always stresses me the fuck out.

RE3 is one of two (along with Code Veronica, which I just recently bought on PS4) RE games I haven't beaten (mainline). I think I last stopped at the point where you reach a military guy outside a train car or something. I'm also out of healing items and on low health, so probably fucked. I may just restart on Easy and fly through it lmao

Edit: so I'm totally dropping Umbrella Chronicles cuz it's not fun and too hard for me even on Easy. Is it worth even trying to play Darkside Chronicles or can I safely delete both, delete them from my backlog, and watch a Youtube play instead?

So Code Veronica X is the only RE game I haven't played at all (RE3 I've played but not finished). I bought it last sale on PS4 before I stupidly realized the PS3 HD version from 7 years ago looks way better. Now I gotta wait for another sale for that version (not paying 20 bucks for it).

I would just pay the PS2 on PS4 version you got. The PS3 version does look better. But it's also darker than the original.
Personally I prefer that, but not everyone seems to agree with me there on that. I played both versions this year and either one is fine.
Not enough difference in the two that i'd recommend buying the game again.

Personally I find the original CVX unplayable due to how dull and washed out it looks. The HD version looks so much better and really improves the atmosphere. The lighter actually gets a better use too.

See I agree with that. The HD version's look I think does a better job in giving it an identity than the original. Once again not enough that if you bought the PS2 PS4 version that you should buy it again.
But it certainly is a interesting one to look at.

I definitely agree, I feel like the PS3 version looks way better and I was a little sad the PS4 version wasn't the same but I completely understand why. Is it 720p or 1080p?
Also if trophies matter to you Blade24070 the PS4 version has more trophies and a Platinum but the PS3 version does not.

I played the ps3 version for a few minutes then went back and played it on ps2 emulator but it's probably just because I'm so used to the original it felt weird to me. The start of the game is probably the darkest part as well

So any opinions on Darkside Chronicles? As in should I bother playing it if I don't care for UC and dropped it like halfway through?

Probably not. The new story in Darkside Chronicles is interesting. But the gameplay is just as annoying if not more so.
Since the camera shakes a lot and you end up needing to replay for upgrades to make later fights actually beatable.
I know the collection goes on sale for like $5-6 and that's the only range i'd recommend it.

I wish I bought Revelations Switch when it was on sale lol. I don't know why but after playing it on 3DS and PS3 I wanna play it again. It wasn't even one of my favourites either...
