I want to get out of the way that there is currently no evidence of a widespread issue, but that some members here and on reddit have reported the same problem. Console powers on for a while, they turn it off. They turn it back on a while later and it's dead. I would like to see if there's a common link such as console position, whether it's wall plugged or surge protector, etc. See the stories below and others feel free to share as well.
Again, this thread is here only to save some Era members the heartbreak of a dead console over something as simple (possibly) as where it's plugged in. THIS IS NOT A WIDESPREAD ISSUE (at present) NOR SHOULD WE ASSUME.
Update: I've been using my Scorpio all night with no issue. Gears in 4K HDR is jaw dropping, as is the 1080/60 mode.
Update 11/9/17: Some people have reported that switching the power cord has fixed their console. It's not working for everyone but it's definitely worth a shot. See the link below.

I was pretty psyched when I got off work today and picked up my One X. Brought it home, placed on top of my tv cabinet while transferring the contents from my OG One to the One X via HDD. When that was done, I unplugged the One X and moved it into it's permanent spot in the TV cabinet.
I did some cable managing, then plugged the console back in. All that was standing in the way from me enjoying some true 4K goodness now was pressing the power button. So I did. Aaaand nothing happened. The console wasn't booting. It didn't even make the boot sound. Just silence and nothingness.
I tried unplugging the console, leaving it unplugged for a while before plugging it back in, but that didn't work. Neither did changing outlets.
Right now the console is back in it's box, waiting to be returned. With my luck, the place I bought it from is out of stock and I'll have to wait a while to get a new one.
This sucks.
WTF my xbox one x is bricked! I played on it 2-3 hours. powered it down and went out for doing stuff, now when I try to turn it on it doesnt start now. Seems like a fuse blew in it or something. tried disconnecting cables, holding in the x button etc etc. I need to send it back for a replacement. gah!
I am one of the unlucky ones, I am on my second X.
I have mine under my tv in a cabinet with no front or back, there is about 7" either side and it's about a foot away from the wall behind it.
It gets the same ventilation as my pro that is right beside it.
I set it up at 11am and it was on all day installing/downloading games, at 7pm I was playing quantum break and it just shut off like it was a power outage. No warning or anything, the controller was just flashing.
The top of my X was pretty warm around the right hand side on top, and I had an external hdd sitting on the warm spot. I moved this off.
I waited about 20 minutes and turned it on again, booted the game and played for another 5-10 minutes and it powered off again. I waited again, this time nothing happened when I tried to power up.
I unplugged it and tried a different power lead, a different socket (it's in a surge protector normally) and no dice. It was dead.
I just ejected the disk with the wee hole to the side of it and returned it to the store for a replacement.
The only thing different now, I don't have the HDD on top of it. Let's see how this goes.
Edit: my room was cool, and it's a regular system not a scorpio
No game crashes at all, yesterday was working fine but just this morning I tried to boot it up and nothing.
Welp, just ran the Insects demo and my console died....guess I do have a bad one :(
Mine just died. Was playing Fallout 4, Scorpio edition, well ventilated, and it just blinked out. Let it sit unplugged for a minute and it did power back on, but died again a few minutes later and won't turn back on. Leaving it unplugged for the night. Will try again in the morning, but I think it's dead. Crazy disappointing.
I don't think I've posted in here but mine had to be returned
I posted this in the xbox one x topic
out of the box the menu crawled and jumped over icons
fans blasted almost to the level of ps4 jet engine ....not as loud but I knew it was an issue when everyone was talking about whisper quiet
I had it on with fans blasting for 45 minutes while it downloaded Forza 7 and its 30gb off disc and 60 off of XBL
it shut off on its own but the fans continued to blast (weird)
I turned it back on and bam! no movement no logging in controller not connecting
I have another coming
I just failed round one
Never owned an Xbox but thought I would try it out. Well I'm gonna have to return my second DOA unit today and give up.
Hopefully this doesn't become widespread for others
