Amahl Farouk was pretty excellent. Such screen presence. He was cast extremely well. Equal parts terrifying and fascinating.

Dope sunglasses too. Love a bad guy with style.

That future Syd stuff is freaky. I wonder what goes so bad it looks like the world ended. Maybe David snaps and starts absorbing millions of people? Would be a nice echo to Xavier in logan. He wasn't maliciously harming people but it shows how dangerous mutants can be. Imagine Charles Xavier turned fully heel. I think thats what is going to happen to David.

Given the narration segments so far, David being legit mentally ill AND a powerful psychic seems to be what leads to the "plague".

Future Syd needs Shadow King alive because they need Shadow King to stop him.

There's been some speculation tossed around that Jon Hamm isn't just a narrator.

They're naming a specific character (
Sublime
), but I have no idea what it's based on. Just reading the wiki for the character doesn't make me think of those vignettes.

Apparently there was a reference to an alien race last night when Cary was looking at the ball: the Shi'ar

Wait, that's Jon Hamm as the narrator? I just assumed it was TwoFace Man.

Miser Sunday was the guy mentioned that wiped out the order of monks hiding the shadow kings body. The name doesn't sound familiar. And the event happened before David's time or something.

Could be a reference to Mister Sinister? Maybe that's who Hamm is voicing and going to eventually appear as?

Huh. Hamm was rumored to be Mister Sinister in New Mutants before they swapped him out for Antonio Banderas playing a different character.

Likely just wishful thinking but it'd be neat if that was the reason why.

Oh I forgot to ask... Did Cary say, "This item doesn't appear to be Shi'ar" when he was analyzing the orb?
Yeah he said something to that effect as well as pondering if he had made it. The fact that Cary is familiar with the Shi'ar is...quite the development. It might just be a fun easter egg for fans, but when I heard it I leaned in a bit and went "ohh ffffuccckk." Charles was married to the Shi'ar empress back in the day right? The connections to David's dad are pretty, pretty, pretty, ppprrreeetttaaayyy good.

Lmao this show was the last place I thought I'd hear the Banana Splits theme song. Really liking this new season! The visual storytelling is still second to none. The plot seems a little straight forward so far, but knowing this show, there's gonna be some twist later on that re-contextualizes the previous episodes. Gonna be interesting to see.

Can't believe I forgot to watch this yesterday, is there a way to watch it online legally? When do they usually repeat these?

That was probably just an Easter Egg for X-men fans. The connections are all over the place however, including in the show's title.

Charles dated Lilandra (the Shi'ar Empress) not married her, and she was not related to David.

So i tried looking up what the name of that monk order is. According to articles online its the Mi-Go Order. i have no idea about them in Marvel but the Mi-Go are the Lovecraftian aliens that were featured in Delta Green. They are the ones responsible for perpetrating the hoax of the Grey aliens to deceive humanity. Probably just an easter egg but its Legion so extraterrestrial hyper-intelligent winged fungus could make an appearance.

That was an insane ass episode. That song that Carey sang when they were a kid was from the early 70's right? So if Bill Irwin is in his 60's then doesn't this show take place is in the present day or even future?

There being a massive apocalypse or plague without X-Men coming to help seems weird too if it's in this universe. And the establishment of Summerland without reference to Xavier's School for Extraordinary Children is interesting too.

Yeah, I definitely got the vibe from future Syd that David is the threat that causes havoc in her timeline. The way she didn't say exactly what the threat is and how she remarked how he still looked the same - innocent and sweet. Maybe something happens that drives him mad or he loses control of his powers and starts fukking shyt up. Then the remaining crew realizes they actually need the Shadow King to stop him. They also have Hamm doing the voice narration about how an idea/delusion can infect someone and continue to grow out of hand

Really who knows with this show though.

The opening to this episode had me confused but things became a bit clearer as the episode unfolded. The Shadow King's raid on Division 3 and David's mental war with the Shadow King both had stunning visuals. So unnerving and psychedelic. The way Oliver grew taller and loomed over Kerry, to the way Lenny moved towards Carry before inverting their powers.

Two Face doesn't trust David for shyt.

Syd be having too much fun switching bodies.

Ooh another question is if the Shadow King has that human form now and if so where did that monstrous form he took on in Season 1 come from?

I believe he is still using Oliver's body as a vessel right now, until he is able to reunite with his body.

I imagine the monstrous form we saw last season was just a horrific visual representation of the parasite that was leeching on David, something the writers came up with.

Didn't Lenny mention something about a "haunted house" routine?

I took it to mean that that "form" was merely a way to keep David scared, to keep him from wanting to see the Shadow King and the "real" thing behind it so he would keep hiding iand blocking that memory from himself so that Shadow King could keep hiding from him.

However since that cat is out of the bag there's no reason for him/Lenny to use that form now.

Yeah tts the theme from a kids show called The Banana Splits show.

After sleeping on the episode im not even sure whats real in the show right now. The fortune teller stand is in physical reality but we see SK erase it from existence. i dont think SK has reality warping powers.. maybe he does when combined with Olivers body (Oliver is a mutant, right?). Maybe "reality" is Davids labyrinth. That could mean that nearly every character besides SK is a mental creation of David. When Melanie is talking about Oliver it sounds like she is describing Xavier. Guy had a dream and made a refuge for mutants.

I'm absolutely loving and having a blast over season one. I only got the finale left to watch, and then I'll start up the second season so I can watch it with the rest of you. Will probably catch up tomorrow!

Yeah, while the aesthetic has always been retro, there has been modern technology in the show from the beginning.

I don't think Oliver has reality warping power, but rather really strong psychic abilities. And with Shadow King also not having reality warping power, this begs the question: how did he, in Oliver's body, obliterate the soldiers? In season 1, he was able to do so in David's body because David has reality warping power.

Which kind of lines up with what was mentioned earlier that everything right now is essentially David's labyrinth and creation. It kind of makes sense from the opening shots this season, with the imagery of the team looking like they're entering a maze when they're first carting in David into section 3.

Kind of also makes sense given the theme of this week's episode too.

Oliver could create a shield from music in the Bolero episode. That seems pretty reality warpish. Also, who says the Shadow King doesn't have reality warping powers?

Is Miser Sunday from the comics? I've read lots of Marvel and X-Men related stuff and that name does not ring a bell at all.

I'm not a huge X-Men fan but I read enough that that should fire off something at least and i've got nothing.

I'm going with the Mister Sinister theory.

I actually went and googled the name and nothing really popped up. Mr. Sinister would be cool to see in this show but I'm not sure how much they intend to work things from the comics into the show.

I'm surprised Lenny is actually Lenny.

I wonder if they actually planned for Lenny to actually be Lenny/her own person rather then actually just being a mask of the Shadow King or if they ended up changing it because lots of people just really liked Aubrey Plaza in the role and they wanted to keep her character going on the show?

I would assume that's the case, no way they could've predicted how popular she'd be.

Rating for this show took a massive dumper week 2. Had something like 400,000 viewers and was one of the least viewed shows on Tuesday. Being a critical darling is only going to go so far I think I'm starting to make my peace with the possibility of this not coming back.

I'm not surprised this show isn't super popular with general. It's antithetical in a lot of ways to the super hero based stuff they are used to and in general is very weird and proudly obtuse. Feels like Hannibal in some ways in terms of having a hardcore dedicated fanbase but everyone else kind of passes it by

FX is pretty good about sticking with their lower rated, but critically acclaimed shows. The Americans has skated by with awful ratings for 6 years now, for instance, so I wouldn't count out Legion just yet!
