Finally got through Cainhurst last night. Martyr Logarius had kicked my ass the last time I tried to play the game. This time I broke down and summoned someone in, mainly so I could study the fight a little further and we managed to take him down. I paid it back and tried to help a couple others at least. This was the first time I played the game online in this run, and I was a little surprised at how active it still is.

On to Byrgenwerth this afternoon!

Weird, I tried summoning help for Logarius last night and got nothing. Rang the resonant bell to try to help other people and got the same thing. Maybe being at level 50 puts me in a weird place for matching? I dunno.
I kept trying to fight Logarius with the Reiterpallasch, which seemed okay-ish, but when I switched to Simon's Bowblade, that's when I was able to beat him. Didn't even shoot him that much, I just needed something a little bigger and stronger.

This is weird, are there no invincibility frames at all with the dodge move?

I'm fighting Amelia and every single of her moves hits I cant seem to dodge or avoid any of her moves at all.

Both the dodge and the roll have 11 i-frames I think.

She's just a pain in the ass to dodge because her arms are so long and her hit boxes have a ton of active frames. I found it easiest to dodge forward to her left but I couldn't do it consistently without taking damage, specially the long extended arm swipe she does with her right arm.

I went in and whacked him with Ludwig's Holy Blade in the standard set up. When I brought someone in I was able to use L2 with the trick config and that was fun.

I was around level 60 I think, but I didn't seem to have trouble finding anyone to summon / be summoned. Weird.

Finally got through Laurence after eight hours of nothing but running to him and dying. I did have week long breaks in between, though. After that, I got all the weapons from the DLC and now I'm off to kill the queen of Yharnam and then getting the endings.

Fuck Laurence. Jesus H. Christ, what on Earth is this? First real wall I've faced in this game. Easily the hardest boss for me so far. Levelled up a decent amount and he's still destroying me. I haven't even gotten any further than this.

The only way I'm able to do any damage to him is by playing insanely patiently, which I'm not great at. And he still fucks me up in the end, anyway.

His first phase is somewhat similar to Cleric Beast, only watch out for the AoE/lingering hitbox on those ground punches. I tend to dodge in out and to avoid them but don't be afraid to be aggressive once in, let regain do its work. Shoot him in the face whilst out of range, which usually results in him staggering, dodge in for a visceral. Try using an armour set with high fire defense, the one worn by Keeper of the Old Lords boss is good iirc. Every little helps.

The second phase gave me a lot of trouble until I realised you can just circle him clockwise when he is crawling. Get damage in when he is spewing lava.

I saw a video comparing a cutscene from the base disc vs the current patch and it inspired me to play through part of the game on my most recent run on the unpatched base game and take a few screenshots to compare what it looks like in the current game. Some day I'd like to do a more thorough test of this sort of thing, but it would be a bit time consuming. Lemme just say beforehand I don't really think these differences are a huge deal and I much prefer the game in its current state of course with all the various improvements that have been made and new additions, it's just fun to see what's changed. All the same, here's some images to compare and my thoughts below: http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/MCMNNN8U

Hunter's Dream: Looks virtually the same, however you can see that in version 1.0 there is some form of what appears to be ambient occlusion present. Most noticeable on the leaves beside the doll and blades of grass in the bottom left corner of the screen. The shadows are notably absent in 1.09. Overall not that big a deal though.

Great Bridge: Looks identical to me. Any differences here I am willing to attribute to the moving fog and particle effects. Most areas I checked around Central Yharnam were the same, no noticeable differences.

Nightmare Frontier: Clearly the lighting here has been changed in some way and the difference is present throughout the area. I wouldn't call the new one strictly worse, though it seems a bit less dynamic. There's also some differences on the mountains in the distance in Nightmare Frontier, they appear a bit more detailed in 1.0, though that might also be a result of the new lighting.

This is the video which inspired me to do this little test (there are spoilers!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60_WsbRXTm4 I think most of the changes made to the game's visuals were actually made in the day 1 patch that released, as going back and looking at youtube footage from people who played the game near launch, no one's cutscene looks anything like that 1.0 version, so it was probably the same in the day 1 patch as it is now. There's no way to really test this now though as you only have the option of playing the base game or the most recent patch.

Faced off against an NPC hunter in Old Yharnam. Wasn't that easy of a fight, but still manageable. After finishing him i decided to take down that annoying machine gunner. Man was i not prepared to face him lol. Almost had no Blood Vials left and didn't think he would be such a tough customer. I would have died there, would he not have fallen down lol. Well, luck is with the brave (or dumb, depending on the outcome) :P

Don't forget to wear some fire resist armor. I used Charred Hunter/Bone Ash. Great mix of physical and fire resist stats. It helps because his attacks have a bit of a fiery tail and AoE to them. Like the Cleric beasts focus on getting behind them and bug out when they start flailing around. The second phase is actually pretty easy if you crack the code. There are long spells of him lavaing the floor where he is very vulnerable. I didn't really dodge in this phase and more just held circle and positioned myself through running.

Maria Hunter Garb.

I've used the Knights Garb with the Cainhurst gloves through most the game, but recently been using the Maria Hunter Garb.
The choir hat looks really good with the Maria garb. I was rocking that combo on my strength character for a while. Wearing elegant clothing while waving around a Amygdalan arm like a berserker was pretty fun.

Looks good. Top form in Fashionborne.
I pretty much used the Hunter set then the Knights with either the hunter or choir hat for most the game, just switched it up every so often if I wanted a little variety in the gifs. Stats wise the only time I think I was forced to change was when I needed posion resist and the first time I met the Winter Lanterns for some frenzy resist. Other than that the armour sets were viable throughout the game which was great, gotta make sure to look good while hunting XD.

Yeah, it took me too long to realize that "armor" meant next to nothing aside from resistances. Even then, I'm not sure if getting decked out in charred/bone ash hunter garb helps against Laurence, but it makes me feel better to walk in there with ostensibly fire-resistant clothing.

And the rest of the time, yeah, style it up. I've taken to not wearing a hat so I can clearly see the hideous mug on my newest hunter.

Its funny how 3 years ago when I quit the nightmare of mensis, it took me like 10 tries to defeat Martyr Logarius and I did it barely. I was awful.

My first "real" play though, beat him in like 2 minutes, one of the easiest bosses of the game this time around lol

I'll post vids from both times I took him on. Its pretty funny

I used the NPC summon for Shadows of Yharnam. No regrets about using what's provided to me. These sort of bosses with multiple things to juggle always trip me up.

I'm actually really surprised to hear this. I thought it was one of the easiest boss fights in the game (throw the Witch of Henwick in there, too). Both of those bosses I beat on my first shot in both my playthroughs.

The Shadows are parries galore. Parry the sword one until he dies while dodging all of the fire (using the giant gravestone as cover can help, but isn't entirely necessary), then you can either parry the candle blowing asshole or R1 spam him until he is dead. Then for the fireball dude you just R1 spam him as he helpless.

It's fun kicking their asses, fun to coop as well, but pretty far down the list in terms of good bosses in the game. I remember there was a list some website created naming the top 100 bosses in video games, and of all of the bosses in Bloodborne, nay, in all of Souls, the Shadows was in the top 50. Was so random.

I will agree the about the Forbidden Woods though. It's definitely the slog of any playthrough.

Forbidden woods, with the giant snake ball things sucked. The Shadows were pretty easy once you got the hang of it, I think I only had to try 5 or 6 times, just kept on the move dodging around the big stone, go in for 2 hits, then go out. I tried getting them all down at approximately the same speed, cause it felt like they raged when one of them dies, but it was a bit hectic so don't take my word for it.

I was feeling pretty good about myself after I finally killed the Shadows. Fuck the Forbidden Forest and Fuck every.single.snake.thing.in.that.place.

And then 5 minutes later I'm getting destroyed by a random NCP hunter and I kill it after like 20 tries and I'm suddenly not feeling so good about myself.

So I go forward thinking I'm gonna have a moment of respite and, oh it's Rom, another boss. A giant spider thing. That summons spiders. That one shoots you with a fucking AOE attack.

This game can be so frustrating sometimes. I don't know why I do this to myself.

It feels like the Anti-Dark Souls 2: that game had super easy bosses galore outside of stuff like Fume Knight, but the areas themselves where pretty hard (sometimes in a very cheap, mean spirited sort of way).

This game feels like it's just a boss rush of frustration and despair.

It seems like anything and everything kills me in 2 hits. Am I doing something wrong?

It's a shit game isn't it, I don't get why anyone would want to play this.

Because it's beautiful and subdued and sublime and challenging and dense and dripping with atmosphere and plays like a dream and it doesn't hold your hand and it doesn't want to be a movie or an experience or a rollercoaster or anything else other than a game.

And fuck it for being so difficult and for ruining every other video game for me. Now I'm doomed to play From Software games forever because it's the only games I want to play.

And fuck you Rom you cheap spider with your cheap minions and your cheap AOE. It felt sublime kiling you.

After three years...I made it to the final boss. Backed up my save, downed the cords, and died to him five times. I can consistently get him to about 15% health. I actually really like fighting him until he can't be staggered. Since I have never parried a single time in this game....this is frustrating.

Okay I am getting tired of some of the stupid lame joke of enemy mechanic. Especially the brainsucker things.

Because people love having no control? Some how grabs me when not facing > I fall > then before I even get up and can control my character he does the ground AOE to stun > stunned ? grabbed again

Wouldn't be so lame if the bosses weren't so easy that I have gone through so far. Int his game what has whooped my butt has not been a boss so far. Screw this shit enemy mechanic, they should have coded it better to not just chain lock you from a backward grab. I mean before this it grabbed me through a freaking pillar.

The brainsucker guys are the worst. There's a couple of those in the upper cathedral ward that kept killing me because I would get stunned, drained, then stunned again. I just started parrying them as best I could and hoped for the best. That AOE is such a pain in the ass. Them and winter lanterns are by far my least favorite enemies to deal with.

I can't be bothered with the ones in UCW. Even if I'm not using it, I use the transformed cane whip to take out the one on the other side of the door near where the warewolf busts out, the other two on the same level can be dealt with using a Blue Elixir.

The brainsuckers are incredibly weak to thrust damage, and it can kill them fairly quickly. If your weapon has any such attacks that utilize thrust damage, try using those attacks. It makes dealing with them a lot easier.

As for END, Bloodborne is one Souls game where having high stamina isn't all that essential. You can easily get through the game with about 12 to 15 stamina and do fine, if you know how to manage your attacks and stamina consumption well. However, having 40 END gives you a shit ton of stamina that can be very useful in allowing you to spam attack enemies into an almost infinite stun lock for a long period of time. This is especially useful against human enemies and bosses.

I would say, overall, it depends on your playstyle and what weapon you're using. Some weapons' attacks are good for spamming, others are not.

Edit: And I did it! True ending(boy, that's a low effort ending, huh).

Right, I'm one more trophy away from the Plat, I just need to kill the Queen.

Defiled Chalice here I come! I tried it a year or so ago and got quite frustrated with the second boss, so I'll see how I get on. Currently I'm having trouble with the Abhorrent Beast in Layer 2 on Lower Loran, he just seems so much harder to beat.
