We got 18 releases in North America (including Gururin), which I don't think is a record but I'd have to go back and check. It's probably close, though.

I quickly looked it up: 22 remains the record (first and third weeks of December) and we've gotten 21 twice (second week of December and last week of February).

Since the beginning of the year, we've averaged over 15 games a week. That's a bunch.

You may not depending on how strongly you feel about your icons. I don't think it'd really be all that big an ask to request that logo is on the tile.
Do you get confused by your games? Doesn't the title show up right under the icon when you select/highlight them? Idk I kinda like seeing what unique direction devs take with their icon.

Until I take a look at the games released this week.

We have 'The Bunker', 'Masters of Anima', 'Super Daryl Deluxe', 'Rogue Aces', 'Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs', 'Don't Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition', 'Burly Men at Sea' and 'Shelter Generations'.

I consider all of these 8 games stellar releases, and this is only in a single week.

And I can make a similar list for every single week in the last months.

That is much more that the time or money that I have to invest in video games.

As I said previously, these type of toxic commentaries not only don't contribute to improve this thread, but they are an insult to any of these other 8 stellar releases this week.

Because with these type of commentaries, you are underestimating the great effort put by these developers.

And I'm not even counting in this list other pretty interesting releases appealing to a very concrete and niche public, such as 'Gal☆Gun 2', the promising 'Eternal Edge', or other highly anticipated games by other users in this thread such as 'Bombslinger' or 'Skies of Fury DX'.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited for tons of future indies that look amazing like Mr Tako (Game Boy Octopus game), Dragon Marked for Death, Rivals of Aether (with Game Maker Support it's inevitable) and really Game Maker games in general. It's just with the current eShop layout the annoying thing is the high-quality stuff gets mixed with lower quality stuff too and neither get proper promotion which helps the developers who spend all their hard work in these games get the attention they need.

For example "A Hole New World", a game I'm reviewing for PS4 right now came out on Switch a month ago and I haven't heard a peep about it here or elsewhere, even though it's a fairly decent Castlevania/Mega Man inspired action platformer with a ton of fun moments, but if the eShop was organized better and didn't just push everything into the abyss after a few weeks of games (unless again, you're on sale), then more people would be aware of that fun gem. Same thing I fear will happen to Lode Runner (BLEED 2's on sale so I'm not worried about that) and thus people will miss out on it.

And speaking of this week, I saw this Breakout-like game with multiplayer that looks like a lot of fun. Forgot the name but I think that's a game worth checking out and I'm gonna see if I can pick it up later. Not denying that they aren't good games coming for people to play (there are lots) I just wish they were promoted in a better way to not confuse those who are unsure just from the eShop which are good and which aren't. Something like "Staff Picks" or something would help with that greatly.

EDIT: Said breakout game is Breakforcist Battle and it looks like a lot of fun. Going on my radar for sure and an example of a game you don't really notice until you look for it.

You can blame the European age rating agencies, for delaying the classifications for a lot of NA releases :)

'Dragon Blaze', 'Membrane', 'Infernium', 'Bad Dudes', 'Adventure Pals', all of them are delayed releases.

Wait, really? I had no idea. Is it based on the fan-expansion?
No, although some of the developers from Antibirth have worked on content updates for Afterbirth+

The Switch is a few content updates behind the PC version. The PC version is currently waiting on its final content update, coming probably within a week or two, that will add hundreds of rooms, new achievements, two dozen items, and other stuff.

Once it's out on PC, Nicalis will take the last 3 content updates and roll them into a large update for the Switch, since it's easier/cheaper than rolling out multiple smaller patches.

The pack before this one also added a few hundred new rooms and new enemies, so lumped all together, when the update hits Switch, it'll basically be the size of a DLC pack. 1 and 2 are already on the Switch, 3, 4 and 5 are coming later. 5 isn't even out on PC yet.

Yeah, I was looking at this same 'Arkanoid' clone in this moment thinking, shit, someone had the crazy idea of mixing 'Arkanoid' with 'Puyo Puyo' :)

Yes. I get confused sometimes and I forget what my name is. Jokes aside, I don't. It's purely an aesthetic thing. I deleted that insult game because I don't like the way the icon looks. I'm sure it's silly/weird to you, but it's what I like and what others may like. I'm not calling for a call to arms on the matter or anything crazy. I simply have a preference. I'm fine with you liking the concept and don't think a logo would mess that up, but ultimately, I'm not losing any sleep over it either way.

Hopefully it won't take too long for that to come to the Switch version, but with Nicalis, you never know.

Is Don't Starve another example of Switch tax? Don't remember paying £18 for it on PS4...

I keep looking at the prices of Binding of Isaac and Cave Story and I just ask myself where we sinned to deserve Nicalis.

It includes two new expansions that were sold separately in PS4 and PC, 'Reign of Giants' and 'Shipwrecked'.

So no Switch taxes here :)
Ah that's fair enough really then.

Apparently we're paying 50% extra to ensure the games come out this decade.

I adore BoI but I can't justify a rebuy at that price.

'Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+' is other example of a game without Switch taxes. It includes both PC expansions. At the end, it has the same price that the Steam version with the two expansions (I think that there is something like a €4 difference).

The are notable examples, and rare exceptions, of Switch games with superior prices. Mostly, some psychical releases, not changing their prices in the digital versions. So the digital buyers need to pay for the manufacturing of the costly cartdriges, and that is not cool. Sadly, 'Cave Story+' is one of these examples.

But because of these rare exceptions, we should not generalize. Much less, spread misinformation with games that have the same price in Steam/PS4 and in Switch. Like in the case of 'Don't Starve'.

My Understanding is that When BOI Afterbirth + came out they raised the prices on Steam to be more in line. Nicalis has definitely raised prices all around on their releases, which is fine as long as the devs are getting paid well for their work. Odds are the games were probably slightly underpriced for the value they gave players.

What would you buy if VC was available today? Perhaps we can recommend similar titles.
Honestly I think I would mostly go in for the older jrpgs, but the indie stuff I've looked at seems just terrible. I was going to buy super Mario rpg for the wii u but the gamepad won't reach to my bedroom, and I'm not going to steal the kids wii u.

Issue is that most of the jrpgs I enjoyed were from squaresoft's Golden Era or from earlier Enix.

I don't remember a price increase with 'The Binding of Isaac Rebirth', but definitely, they did this with 'Tiny Barbarian DX'. They gave priority to try to sell the psychical version to retailers, saying fuck you to their digital customers.

Fortunately, with 'The End is Night' they didn't repeated this approach, and we have different prices for the digital and retail version.

There is no sense in forcing me to pay a digital collectors edition with merchandising, covering the costs of logistic and the price cut of the retailer plus the manufacturing of the cartdrige, when I intentionally decided years ago to never purchase a psychical game again.

Do you get confused by your games? Doesn't the title show up right under the icon when you select/highlight them? Idk I kinda like seeing what unique direction devs take with their icon.

I'd always rather view a painting, than a magazine ad/movie poster. If a company feels an image sans text represents their artistic ideals, I'm behind that The text always resides immediately above the icon when selected, and as you stated, I can recognize what game I purchased prior to that. The uniformity discussions and demands, seem peculiar to me. It a company develop...and...market, their product the way....they...wish too.

Rogue Aces looks like it'd be real fun. Gotta decide on that or Super Daryl for now.

Looking at reviews, Streets of Red looks good for the price.

Didn't realize the devs made a game that I was in as a character; won a social media thing and they put me in the game... Never got to even see it though lol.

Finished Battlechef Brigade last night, enjoyed it for the most part but I think it got a bit repetitive towards the end. Going to really try and avoid buying anything until South Park comes out but I don't know if I have the will power lol.

Don't Starve, super-quick impressions

I only spent a couple of minutes but it plays beautifully, smoothly, and the interface is fantastic on controller. Graphics look wonderful on the Switch screen. Only quibble are load times, but they really aren't bad, just not lightning quick. Felt like 15 seconds or so to generate a new game world, though I didn't time it. No major issues I could see. Obviously not a thorough playtest, but seems like a good port.

I pulled the trigger on Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ today.
Having only played it on the Vita before without the two expansions (as far as I know they were never released on PSN). The high price certainly made me wait for a little bit, and even with 20% off I hesitated.
I played it for 2 hours straight and beat mom on my first run. There are so many new items I wasnt familiair that it felt almost like a new game compared to the vita version. I think it's safe to say i'll get my moneys worth on this one. Very compelling game.

Yeah. I'm going to take the chance on Regalia. I wish it was slightly cheaper but will redeem some coins to save a few bucks. I'm liking that Switch is getting a decent amount of srpgs. Mercenaries Chronicles, Disgaea 5, Regalia, Steamworld Heist(kind of) God Wars later this year, and I believe the Banner Saga games are coming eventually? Plus Fire Emblem of course.

Really wish Atlus would make more Devil Survivor games.

I also have to confess that I have purchased some of the Kemco rpgs in the past when on sale. Actually enjoyed the story in Unlucky Mage on 3DS.
