I remember both, but the original was a product of its time, not sure how to update the cheesiness if it to modern times. The movie did a good job doing it at its beginning (first half) that only the plot was dumb and ending was terrible (specially the spider thing).

Next, The Time Tunnel, please.
Sure, but the movie was a product of it's time too... it has a Friends star, a Party of Five star, a Crystal Method song over the credits, a pre-Episode I CGI creature and a pre-Matrix prototype of the bullet time effect.

It couldn't be more 1998 (as we would have said in 1998 ;)

The trailer doesn't look too bad, but my expectations for Netflix Originals has really lowered as of lately.

I've been excited about this for over a year now, but that trailer really didn't show much. And how they handle the robot is important, but if what TDLink says I'd true then I'm going to be very disappointed with this show. I'm now terrified to see what the Jupiter II will look like.

New trailer came out a few weeks ago:

This trailer was my favorite one so far, I'm loving the visuals and music in it. Only a few weeks now until the show goes live, I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Surprised there's no hype for this.

We're quite excited over here, my wife is a huge fan of LiS. Her and her dad used to watch reruns of the old show all the time.

I'm super excited for this, been waiting for over a year for it. That said though, I'm going to bed tonight, I'll start watching tomorrow night. I can wait one more day. :)

Netflix again bad at advertising their new shows. If its good word of mouth will probably be good enough to get eyeballs though.

Really weird how they've stopped marketing their shows.

This doesn't look cheap either, you'd think they'd want it to be a success. Same with Series of Unfortunate Events, had no idea the second season was available until I logged in.

Yeah. Iirc altered carbon was super expensive too.

I wonder if they have lots of metrics on stuff that has made then conclude that advertising dollars don't necessarily translate to views and that if you make the content available people will just naturally watch it.

Altered Carbon was easily my favourite Sci-Fi show of the last 10 years. The Expanse is good, but for whatever reason I just can't get into it.

This looks a little too....family friendly? Some of the visuals remind me of Mass Effect, though, which is kinda cool.

They didnt really market Stranger Things that much either. I remember the first season's thread not being as active at first until it started to blow up. The original trailer for that had like a 1 page thread.

Watched episode 1, the budget on this thing must be insane. Aside from the great visuals, I wasn't really feeling it. I'll watch 1 or 2 more episodes but if they're all like the first one, I'll probably not finish the season.

Watching Episode 1 right now, it's pretty alright so far. Production values don't seem to be blown all over episode 1 (hopefully, otherwise there is not too much left on the other episodes), there seems to be a focus on family values and it seems to have heart. Reminds me on a modern take of a 90s SciFi series that never was. Means it's not all that logical either. :P

Wait - you think it looked insane? It was all very confined in one space, few locations (mostly small sets), very few actors... the only thing that was completely blown out of proportions was the animation on the robot. And even that got exchanged for a suit asap.
It's not comparable to something like the first two episodes of Star Trek.

Edit: Well, I guess the end of episode one looked neat, but even then - nothing that topped the Expense or any other Space Show in an unbelievable way. It's very well done in the visual department though.

Yeah?
The station blowing up at the end was very impressive.

Yep, I answered while the episode was still running (you don't do that, I know - it's running while I have to do some mundane stuff for work though).
The end was way more impressive than the rest of the episode, but still - it doesn't seem out of proportions compared to Star Trek, the Expanse or even BSG.

Liked the first episode, I'm in.

I know nothing about the original show or the movie. I didn't expect a... not so happy family lol.

The
flashback stuff was the low point but needed i guess to set stuff up as the episode progressed
, but I hope it's not a "thing" in the show moving forward.

Looks great, bith the effects and the suits and shit. Really like the
alien robot thing
.

I'm coming off Black Sails recently so I like the main actor, kids are...fine I think. I actually really like one of the girls, Will is ok, hopefully the kid gets better.

It's darker than I expected too.

Edit: forgot to say it's fucking long and seems it will stay that way, first so is 61mins second ep is 55, Netflix doesn't learn do they? It's the type of shit that bores some people and it doesn't surprise me tbh, it could use some trimming even if I liked it. But I guess I'm used to that with Netflix shows by now.

Also where do I know this actress at the end of ep1 from? It's driving me nuts.

I'm on episode 2 and I already kind of hate the parents. A damn robot saves them from death and they find it 'creepy'. Americans ugh...
