This is exactly what I hoped Nintendo would do despite having the Nes/Snes Mini out

A Small collection of games maybe the same or a few different all on the Switch, exactly how sega has done

At this rate for the Switch we have

All the NEO Geo Stuff
A few Arcade Classics
A Few Claasic Capcom games (megaman/Streetfighter)
SNK Collection

And yet lacking in official 1st party Nintendo classics

Hope with the Switch having beefier hardware than the 3DS they dip into more recent, 3D titles. Iirc they wanted to port games like Virtua Racer but system specs were a concern.

Can we get some ports of Sega games that haven't been ported like a billion times already.

I'd love to see M2 working on the model 2/3 stuff.

Oh my CHRIST I am so in for portable Thunder Force IV. Was hoping Sega would do something with all the Tecnosoft IP they picked up!

Why?

No, it's not a joke question, why? We ALREADY have another classic collection coming out this year, why have TWO? (Three counting the MD mini)

Also, this is the 33rd Sonic 1 rerelease (I think, counting multiple releases on same consoles, and plug and play)

With titles like this, the Mega Man Legacy Collections, and that SNK Anniversary compilation coming this fall, I genuinely don't believe Virtual Console is gong to be a thing on Switch. We'll see lots of retro titles brought over by the publishers themselves and Nintendo will likely start releasing some of their classic titles on the platform at some point, but an actual "Virtual Console"-type umbrella service doesn't seem likely at this point.... but who knows

I think you are dead on, sir.

Man. I just can't believe how awesome the week has been for cool little game news. SNK collection, Treasure talking about games, now an M2 backed Genesis collection.

The Switch continues to be this old gamer's dream machine: the best of gaming's storied past and the new hotness.

What's the deal with all this Sonic 3 anxiety? What's keeping it out of digital distribution, because I have to say that it is my least favorite classic Sonic game.

Pumped for Phantasy Star, this was the kind of nice lowkey surprise I was hoping for from FES

Okay that' cool. So no Shenmue but at least I have this, that makes me happy.

I'm not happy, I'm actually pissed. How many times do I have pay for god damn Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games? If they want to bring some classics to Switch they should have brought Dreamcast HD titles as some have never appeared on a Nintendo or handheld platform.

Switch continues to disappoint me, third party wise.

Well, when I saw that thread title I was kinda hoping for Saturn games at least, but it's a start I guess.

They say download only, but I could see them doing a collection physically down the road. Like the 3DS ones.

15 titles to start with is pretty good, if the prices are good I'll definitely pick some up.
Sega and SNK are now releasing old games on Switch, hopefully it's not too long until Nintendo announces their plans for their back-catalog.

Yeah, hopefully this eventually includes Saturn and Dreamcast releases.

Music rights. Michael Jackson and his team had a heavy hand in the music and the links have only become more clear over time (like Icecap being an unreleased Jetzons song).

Tomorrow afternoon they will be announcing more details on the title lineup. They also confirmed that M2 will be adding new features/modes/content into games like they did for the Sega 3D Ages stuff on 3DS. Thunderforce IV is currently playable at the event today.

If they don't bring Sonic 1 up to feature parity with the Taxman versions (widescreen, Tails and Knuckles playable, etc.) I'm going to be so disappointed.

I am prepared for disappointment

Wasn't there a comment about Sega Forever titles being included/being ported to Switch?

This had better include OutRun and Space Harrier, which M2 brought over to 3DS. Two of the greatest games of all time and their conversions of both are fantastic.

So is this really a collection or 15 separate titles (and more to come) under the Sega Ages moniker like Neo Geo has with Arcade Archive? It feels very unclear.

Preparing myself for only Genesis/Megadrive and no Saturn or DC (LOL) games

Be cool to have Daytona, then they could sell a mini arcade stand that the switch can slide into.

Yet another confirmation that the VC isn't happening.

Honestly, it's looking more like third parties are recognizing that licensing their classics to Nintendo won't make them as much as selling the games themselves. It being on Nintendo's storefront and considering the age of the games announced, I can't imagine the profit is much higher than if they'd just given them to Nintendo for... whatever they're planning, but profit is profit.

Friendly reminder that instead of doing just straight ports, M2 started straight up adding new content to some of the 3D Classics on 3DS.

img_ss23.jpg

3D Space Harrier had a new secret boss Haya-Oh, which previously only appeared in the Master System and somewhat obscure X68K versions of the game*

(* It's in the PS2 remake as well, but we don't talk about that version)

16028876510_55d3332c6f.jpg

3D AfterBurner II added a new arrange mode that adds in a new Burst mechanic (It's functionally identical to the Climax mechanic in AfterBurner Climax) remixed stages/enemy patterns, a rival pilot to face down in stages and even a short little story tying the stages together. Some of the extra content was handled by an ex-Treasure employee that worked on Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun and Gradius V, IIRC.

3D Thunder Blade had an entirely new stage based off of a dummied out/scrapped stage from the original release.

I don't know about anyone else, but I love the novelty of decades old classic games getting new content. There's something just really cool about that.

They also confirmed that M2 will be adding new features/modes/content into games like they did for the Sega 3D Ages stuff on 3DS. Thunderforce IV is currently playable at the event today.

Hell yes, awesome to hear. The 3D Classics were awesome updates, cannot wait to see what gets confirmed.

Also what do I have to do to get a port of the Sega Ages Treasure Box on PS2?

Well, at least the Switch users dodged the bullet of the 'SEGA Mega Drive Collection'.

The Megadrive emulator by Digital Eclipse is atrocious at its current state in PC, with a terrible input lag, inaccurate sound emulation and a ugly CRT shader taken from the last decade, before all of the current advancements to faithfully recreate the original look of these games in old TVs, as can bee seen with the superb CRT filters included in the Hamster Arcade Archives series or in the Zero Div releases of the Psikyo catalogue.

Very very very hyped to finally have some of my favorite titles by Sega, finally playable in a LCD TV, without needing to rely in external emulators.

The sad note is that this closes the door even more to a Megadrive Virtual Console. And I really need the superior Megadrive version of 'Rolling Thunder 2', with new cinematics and two exclusive new levels respect to the 'Namco Museum' release.

Yes! M2's work on Sega's arcade library has been absolutely nuts.

For their Sega AGES compilation of Fantasy Zone games on PS2 they literally remade Fantasy Zone II on Sega System 16 hardware because the original FZ2 only got an arcade release that was essentially a port of the Master System version

M2's remake

And then when they ported it to 3DS they went and created a new mode called Link Loop Land, a score attack mode that's so different from the main game and deep that's essentially an entirely new game, it even adds two new playable characters with their own abilities.

M2's work is just insane. I'm super excited for this!

What a bizarre reaction. You dont have to pay for anything if you dont want to. Plenty of people want these games.

I'm reading through the recent Sega news and it seems to me that between these and the other games that will only release on platforms I don't own or don't want to play those games on, the only new Sega game I'll be buying anytime soon(ish) will be Bayonetta 3. Unless there's something interesting among those 15 titles (I did smile writing that last bit but can't really laugh at that joke anymore; maybe after they're done re-releasing all their re-released re-releases, this time by M2, again, they'll consider looking at the rest of their back catalogue, but probably not)

What a bizarre reaction. You dont have to pay for anything if you dont want to. Plenty of people want these games.

I guess the point is that they do release games that are interesting, and then they turn around and say "Ha! Switch people! Didn't see you there. Never mind, here's Sonic again!"

Place your bets, how much will they cost? Gotta make the $$$ somehow, so I'm expecting around $10, and an eventual physical release (because why not)
