Psychonaughts was a 50hz only game on the original PAL Xbox.
I don't have my disc so I can't check the differences. I can't buy the digital version either for some reason. Says the offer isn't valid in my region. Maybe it's US only. I need to find that disc.
You used to be able to install while offline. It was significantly faster than waiting for the download.
You could never install back compat titles offline on Xbox One. Xbox One games, yes, and it was faster because it wasn't downloading/installing the title updates simultaneously to the game install. Backwards compatible games on Xbox One have always required you to download the full game online, due to the technical nature of how compatibility is achieved on the console. This is the reason back compat games *must* be approved by publishers and why there mustn't be any rights issues, as BC titles on Xbox One are legally considered distinct distributions.

You could do this for Xbox One games, but never for backwards compatible games as the data literally isn't there.

If you don't need UHD BDs, I'd get a dirt-cheap One over a One S. Every single One I have ever used has been SILENT, but most ever S has made some noise. As far as BC goes on the Non-X units, you will not get gorgeous graphics, but games will still run better than on legacy hardware, and you'll get minor improvements such as more stable frame-rates and no tearing on some titles, and shorter loads.
It's so frustrating. Psychonauts and others are not available in the UK and you can't buy gift cards to get BC games so you can't purchase via the US store. The disc prices are through the roof. Wish MS could sort it out.
Quick question. Do all BC games see performance improvements on the OG XBOX or do they only get them on the X1X?
You get 960p on regular or S for OG Xbox, vsync for all 360 games, no resolution upgrade - you might see performance improvements if the game has an unlocked framerate/doesn't stay at 30ish.
Do we have a list of PAL games that don't support 480p on original hardware. I know Halo doesn't, but what about the GTA games? Can't find a list for PAL games online.
Dead to Rights is one of those semi-naff games I loved but never expected to see supported, and I'm so sad that I can't purchase that digitally either. :(
I just hope Hunter: The Reckoning doesn't meet the same fate.

Same here! I'd buy them in a flash if I could. I thought I actually owned Hunter, but turns out I have the sequel.
Outside of God of War and State of Decay 2, I think my summer will be all BC games. I loaded up Gears 2 to check out the 4K and stayed all the way until the end. Back on 360, I quit pretty early on with Gears 2. Not sure why it stuck this time. Really solid campaign.
Now off to finish Bioshock and start Red Dead.
Next week it'll be Conkers and Panzar Dragoon.

Yeah, I've been wondering what happens when you put the PAL disc in, since the PAL digital version is no longer offered. Does it download the NTSC version?
I don't have my 360 with me so I can't check but how hard is it to access the US store from a PAL 360? I added $10 to my account to buy Breakdown having forgotten that I can't use account balance to buy OG Xbox games from the browser but I can't remember if switching to another country's store is as trivial on 360 as it is on XB1.
It's not as easy as changing regions on XB1. For 360 and OG games, your easiest option is to use a VPN via a browser extension on a computer to buy from another region.
You need to have an us account. Simply changing the console region isn't enough.

I already told you how buying 360 games from others stores works when we were discussing Virtual On Force!!!
I'll just buy it on my Japanese account. I only need to complete the purchase on the 360, doesn't matter if the download fails, then I can download it from my XB1 without hassles.
As far as I know it should grab the NTSC version. It grabs something one way or another, which is good but just shows how stupid it is that you can't purchase it digitally!

Yup, it still uses 360 environment so any hackers on 360 will still be present. Which is why its weird people are so adamant on wanting old COD games but

SSX 3 on OG Xbox always had an odd button config compared to other consoles because it lacked two shoulder buttons. Was hoping I could fix that.
I don't think they remove them for download. How would you get physical copies of delisted games to work if they also took down the download?
You can remap the buttons via the Xbox Accessories app and it would apply universally on the Xbox One OS, BC games...etc.
Check out the co-op DLC if you're curious to try multiplayer. Should be safe from miscreants.
Luckily, unlike a certain other successful Rockstar online game, it's easy to switch to private without having to inexplicably load the singleplayer first.
I'm currently playing through the story again and trying to do every side mission since I never did many of those. I also bought Undead Nightmare back when it released but never really played it so I've got that to do as well.
Oh yeah. But does that work on the standard controller? I always thought that stuff was just for the Elite controller.
Ah OK - it didn't say "pre-order" or anything (which is normally does) but guess will need to wait another day. I've waited over ten years so I should be able to cope.
You can do it with every controller, but the elite pad has more options (stick configuration, deadzones etc.).
Speaking of hacked MP for old games, is the MP for Modern Warfare still hacked? I remember jumping into a few lobbies about 3-4 years after it launched and they all had that stupid super-speed hack. I think I gave up looking for a non-hacked lobby after like 5 minutes.
