Blunderbuss not 1 hit KOing on a direct hit is garbage. If you hit 9-10 pelts, it needs to kill.

The blunderbuss being able to one hit kill is garbage too, to be honest. It makes PvP feel so crappy. I really don't think Rare have got their heads around how to balance the weapons given the constraints around them all being single shot, them all taking the same long length of time to reload, and them all having five shots before needing to resupply. Any change they make, however small, feels like it has a radical effect in tilting the balance one way or the other. Maybe they would have been better off focusing on getting the pistol/cutlass stuff perfect before adding other weapons into the mix because the blunderbuss has never been a positive part of the combat sandbox.

To have any chance of balancing the three guns Rare need to think of other ways to tweak them. Change the amount of ammo for them, the movement speed, reload length, perhaps restrict the ability to jump while reloading some/all of them, maybe don't allow ADS with the BB? There's so many things they could do.

I don't think I've had a PvP battle since launch that hasn't been a case of whoever can get close enough and blast them quickest.

I'm happy for the changes. At least it will bring variaty to combat situations.

Agreed, and I'd like to see a small buff to reload times or rate of fire for flintlock and Eye of Reach.

Just got Gamepass. Downloading.
Can't wait to try this out.

This is good with 2 players right?
Only 10GB. I haven't seen AAA games this size since Skyrim.

Playing with a friend is the only way I got some enjoyment out of it. But even then the boredom set in in under two hours.

Best to go in blind and just figure things out as you go along. That's where most of the fun is.

The core game is amazing for co-op experiences. You'll have fun. Just don't play too much so you get burnt out too quickly.
I'm hoping for at least 20 hours of fun. Won't read up anything about the mechanics. Hopefully I can rope in another friend to make a crew.

2P sloop is a great time- you're faster into the wind than galleons and it's worth remembering
That's cool. I hope we can paint ships and stuffs.

Unfortunately, painting/customizing ships costs 70k gold apiece for ship, sails, and figurehead. When you first start out it seems unreachable/futile but if you really get into playing you'll get there.

No "painting" of ships and "stuffs" won't you find here either. Play 45 minutes and you saw everything this game has to offer, but playing with friends and sailing around will get you to 20 hours without problem, just don't expect too much.
You can sail around, do one of 3 mission types and buy clothing and very expensive ship skins and that's basically it.

I just had the craziest voyage.

Joined a game. There was a beat up galleon with no resources left and a single guy attacking a skull fort. Somehow we killed all the skeles and loaded our ship up with the loot. The closest out post was so close. We set sail and get immediately attacked by the kraken. By this time two first timers joined us in the middle of the fight and somehow we fought him off.
Those are the two luckiest nublets ever.

Walked away with about 14 grand.

Tldr.
Skull fort with 2 guys, kraken, lots of gold

Decided to try and intercept a Galleon chasing a sloop tonight.

Lucked out massively.

All the crew were off the Galleon for some reason and were anchored so set my sloop on a circle rotation. (I guess one of the sloop crew had got aboard?)

Manned the cannon.

And sunk it all on my billy bob while there crew desperately tried to swim back to the ship.

I grabbed a couple of villainous skulls and a few things - other sloop comes back and I say help yourself.

I scarper before sloop 2 changes there mind !

Took on a skeleton fort with a crew of four. We sank no less then 6 galleons while not losing our ship once (we brought 8 boom booms and put them all to good use :). Had one persistent French crew that came back three times and payed with their lives every single time. We even took their captain's chest plus other nice loot when they did a final attack at the outpost.

This game has many flaws and is in desperate need of new content (which will thankfully come in spades later this year), but I'll repeat myself: This is my game of all times <3

I'm actually a little worried about how much time I'll spend playing this if they add more incentives. Like if they add cosmetic items as random drops as you go about your voyages, even something like that would keep me hooked largely thanks to how strong the underlying mechanics are.

I feel the same. Last week I thought "maybe I'll take a little break from SoT while I wait for new content" and then oops I sunk a bunch more hours into it this weekend. Sailing around and digging up chests is fun and oddly relaxing and today I was on a galleon and we ran into 2 friendly sloop crews and we just messed around having fun getting all sorts of achievements (zero of which fired for me but OK!).

DOn't know what happened, but it takes me FOREVER to load back into the boat after taking a mermaid or coming back from the ferry. Like game breakingly loud.

I feel similarly.

Game has flaws, even fairly deep ones.

But when it clicks there is nothing else like it.

Same here. We had a 4 man LAN for launch weekend, and we had the same discussions - we all agreed that we hadn't had this much pure fun since the OG Halo 2 days. It's fun and silly, but then facing off against a competent crew is one of the most tense/fraught cat and mouse battles in gaming. (IMO)

Yes, it lacks content, but the foundation is so solid and different, it's hard not to be in love with the game in general.

My top concerns right now are probably

1. Voyage system encourages re-rolling quests until you get a good one. Needs to be a big rep bonus on completion. Chapters vs Maps is super arbitrary. Need to scale rewards better.

2. Skeletons don't feel fun. Pistol ones are obnoxious. Feel unfair. They rush you too hard so they go past you when you are using the sword (meaning the block/dodge is almost pointless)

3. Content variety.

And this is one I have been thinking about a lot, let me know if you agree....

4. The game demands you to set aside a large block of time to play.

It's interesting because the the shared nature of voyages and no power progression means you don't feel like you need to get on and grind everyday. That being said, if I have an hour to kill I can play like 2-3 fortnite matches or a handful of rocket league matches.... But I feel that is NOT enough time to play Sea of Thieves. It just takes so long to get ANYTHING done in that game. And it doesn't feel worth it to do 2 islands of a voyage and then turn in and shut off.

I wish the vendor gave you quicker quest options, and I wish they gave you rep on completing voyage or doing an action like killing skeletons or something. OR if there was some way to pick up your progress or something. There have been so many times where a skull fort appears, or we get a new voyage and I have to log off....

Or we are ready to turn in but get caught by a galleon and what should have been a 5 minute cash in turns into half an hour of chasing around.

This is so annoying. The download keeps stopping and starting.
It downloaded other games fine, except for SoT. When I checked the network it says "Purchase & content issue", on Xbox side apparently.

Really wanted to try this tonight.

The amount of galleons that still store their Fortress loot in the captain's quarters boggles my mind. If someone's hiding there they can basically throw everything overboard before anyone even notices.

If you store a gunpowder barrel in the crows nest and it blows up - does the ship take damage as usual? Also, if you 'drop' gunpowder barrels from the crows nest, do they explode on impact?

I ask because I'm enjoying hiding my stash in the crows nest - the only way in/out is on a ladder where weapon use isn't possible and its not the first place boarders go because climbing that ladder is slow 'locked' progress.

That amount of galleon crews that don't check for stowaways is the actual mind boggling thing here.

Yeah, this has actually had a huge impact on the way I play the game. I usually wake up pretty early and watch/read/play stuff until it's time to leave for work, but I can't do that with Sea of Thieves. Even if I'm able to do a map or two, any kind of complication at all (especially PvP) sets me way off course and I can't finish. The flipside though is that I've never had a game eat so many hours without me realizing. I don't have a lot of time and have had to get into the habit of finishing up important IRL stuff before I play.

And still after hours and hours and hours I still find myself just enjoying the sail.

Happened to me yesterday. "Oh, it's 3 p.m., maybe I can jump to SoT and do a couple of quests" (5 mins later) "HOLY SHIT IT'S 10 PM"

Did a bunch of chicken collection missions last night (I had six chickens on board!) and then stupidly caught a snake and left it too close to the chickens. Didn't realise it would kill them! Lost five chickens to that snake... The snake earned me 77 gold when I sold it.

Fucking snake.

There is no way that pistol skeletons are less accurate than before. They still hit every single shot no matter how much you're zigzagging or jumping around.

Nah, both of those are fine. The explosion isn't large enough to create holes from the crow's nest and the gunpowder barrels only explode if they make contact with the outer hull, not the deck.

Nah, I see them hitting the dirt the whole time. Dunno what the percentage is, but I noticed it a lot yesterday.
They'll still hit you when they want to hit you no matter how well you dodge (unless you can get something to block the shot), and miss you when they want to miss you.

I don't get this game, I know its shallow as hell, but I keep wanting to play it. Too bad my gamepass is expiring in a few days, if it was $30 i'd buy it.

I'll wait for a discount and hopefully by then there will be some new updates.

Similiar ish boat (but got 2 months game pass)

Getting as much grinding as I can get done now.
Then state of decay 2 will be hammered

Then I'll consider picking it back up at £20-30

Not bad considering I slated it massively on release

That's why it's called Sea of Thieves instead of Ocean of Thieves.

I'll sea my way out

lol, I was actually considering it, however I'll wait until there is a dry season sometime in the summer. Get a month subscription and play through some games that I haven't played yet. Plan to do that with the origin pass as well (mostly for mass effect Andromeda)

I actually really like these subscription services, hopefully Sony and Nintendo do something similar.

When they announced 1sr party on Game Pass I bought 6 months, and redeemed when SoT arrived. I'm covered till summer, it will depend on E3 if I stay suscribed. But probably I'll simply stay if they manage to add at lest a couple of interesting games each month.

Yeah I learned it the hard way too. I always leave caged animals on the beach next to my ship while I'm hunting for the remaining ones, and when bringing back the final capture that would complete the requirements, I found two empty cages waiting next to the snake basket. Poor piggies. :( (I don't think it spit on the pigs on purpose though, it must have got excited when I walked by earlier)

I think they desperately need to introduce voyage completion rewards (and good ones) and some multiplier for higher levels because I'm over level 20 and the game is just a massive chore now. I can't really be bothered doing anything knowing the rewards don't really scale, they just take longer.
