Just read the translated "official" speed running rules and it's hilarious how much stuff is banned to not make timed runs an absolute joke.

- Only slinger ammo allowed is dung (i.e. no flash pods)
- No wall-run attacks
- No aerial great sword
- No mantles or boosters of any kind
- No Heroics
- No traps

I get why for pretty much all of these, but it really speaks to how easily you can break this game if you really want to.

Woo finally completed the Watcher/Aloy set. Killed so many Ajanaths that I can now build a Giant Jawblade I. Is that worth building or is there any great sword I should farm for?.

edit: On another note can I still build event weapons/armor after the event if I already have the mats?. Curious since I have rnough blueprints to go upgrade the wyvern ignition but I'm not at the point to where I can farm the other mats yet.

To all the peeps who just got their crown trophies: is Jho required now? Or did they hardcode it to the stock monsters?

All of you going for crowns, the desire sensor is clearly messing with your RNG.
Yesterday I did the Wildspire Waste multihunt just a single time simply because I needed an extra event quest and an extra Rathian kill for the daily rewards (those 200 points armour spheres are too good to pass on).
Lo and behold, two crowns in a single mission. Clearly, the trick to get crowns is to not look for them

The Great Jagras GS is good, as is Jho and obviously the new event is currently considered top tier.

Yeah, as long as you have the event materials you're good.

Had some great luck yesterday and got a critical boost, attack, might bow, and elementless deco. Still looking for capacity and artillery, but maybe I'll make a bow build now that I got that might bow deco. I already made the Tobi bow.

Mostly been doing tier two and three tempered three and four box, either SoS or mine if I have them. Ran a four box, one feint teo twice with randoms and failed both times, even the time we had insurance haha.

I almost have the mats for the Divine slasher, but I realized I need two wyvern gems. So annoying to farm for.

I just got my capacity jewel today and I'm pretty psyched about it. Now I can improve my charge blade build...

Hey everyone! I am currently still going through the beginning story/tutorial but I really wanted the new Ignition Greatsword before the event ended. I did the Event in the area several times once I hit Level 8 and managed to craft the sword. However, I know there is a further upgrade for it from videos I watched. I have an extra 3 Mastercraftmen's Blueprints that I believe the upgrade takes. Is there anything else that is event-exclusive that I need to get for that upgrade? I believe I won't be able to upgrade until high rank.

Thanks!

The tickets are the only event specific stuff, the rest are just normal materials. You'll be able to upgrade it later once you get the normal materials without having to worry about the event

Finally did the Tempered Kirin quest this morning...whew, that's a helluva fight.

That Murder Pony doesn't screw around. Had to gear up for some Thunder Resist so he didn't casually one shot me (he did the first few times I attempted it...pretty embarrassing when he carts you just by running into you.)

But got the Anja Bow and was just persistent...did it in like 35 minutes? At least I won't fight him again anytime soon.

Also did the Wildspire Waste multihunt and got 3 Wyvern Gems for my troubles. (It's annoying how many things require those Gems.)

I find Kirin the easiest of the elders ... maybe on par with vaal ...

I don't know why, but I'm just abysmal at solo arena challenge quests. I tried the Nerg LS one. I legit failed. I couldn't believe it. I can solo Nerg just fine. But put me in the arena, and I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

They're tough solo, more so because they still have the same health as the coop version. They really need to introduce a solo arena for those of us who can't always group up.

One thing peope forget about solo arena besides multiplayer health for mosters is that your palico isn't there to buff you / save your ass.
It doesn't apply if you play the normal quests without your palico but a fully upgraded horn definitely makes missions easier.

Yeah, they also have multiplayer flinch/break values which completely changes the tempo of the fight, at least if you're a very aggressive player who swings into trades fishing for flinches/knockdowns.

I forgot that arena challenges are co-op balanced. Oops. Well I need to do one in the next few hours for the bounties. I can just do one of the super easy ones, right? The Vespoid one for example?

Managed to get another gold crown Black Diablos for a friend restoring the file when I previously got it, so it does seem crowns are seeded (Is that how it is called? like decoration melding).

After 70 hours of playing mainly lance and gunlance, I figured I'd give greatsword a go since I like the look of the Wyvern Ignition one. Watched some tutorials on Youtube and off I went.

Yeah, no. This weapon type is garbage. Ridiculously short range and everything takes forever. Feels like I have to learn every monster's moves by heart to get anything done.

Tried the double tempered Bazel mission (since that's where I'd left off) with the GS and failed three times in a row, feeling like I did next to no damage. Tried it with lance and completed it in one attempt without carting.

Lol you picked a super tough mission for your first foray into GS. Not really a good metric.

Thank you everyone for answering my questions. Completely addicted to this game and I can see why for months this was the only game I saw people play on my friends list. Also just got to the elder recess so was wondering if there's any armor for great swords I should aim for?. Looked it up and seems I should get Ogdaron armor. I haven't unlocked any high rank quests or investigations for him and seems I need to do some more quests before I get to Ogdaron. Otherwise I'm still using the Kulu armor.

Edit: looks like Diablos might be a good choice too?. I have it and Black Diablos unlocked. I struggled nightly with low rank Diablos but fuck it I need to learn anyway.

GS does feel super clucky the very first tries but when you start to get the hang of it it is pretty fun, I'm still unable to block anything with shoulder tackle tho.

Whenever I try a new weapon I usually start at the bottom and work my way up. I learned that lesson from picking up the lance and trying it out on Diablos (tempered even, from what I remember). Yeah, it's easy to hunt with that weapon if you know how to use it. But I got bodied by it, because I had no idea what I was doing.

Yeah I've done it a few times but I usually mistime the tackle and get wrecked. That and my first instinct is usually to dodge rather than go for a tackle when a monster is charging at me lol.

Lance to basically anything else is the hardest transition in the game because every other weapon is about positioning, whereas lance doesn't even really let you position outside of short hops and will often punish you for putting your weapon away to reposition properly.

The other weapons involve a lot of sheathing and moving around the monster to be in the right place as it does attacks. Lance's whole gimmick is you get to opt out of that.

Yeah I usually pick Lance when I want to relax and hunt. GS is more about finding the openings at the right moment with a risk/reward playstyle. If you know what you're doing with the Lance there's basically no risk.

I really wish it were easier to get investigations. I keep doing 9* SOS because I don't want to do the event quests that give investigations.
It's now or never to do those quests. Just turn on a podcast and turn off your brain while you sniff elder dragon tracks. I'm swimming in tempered elder investigations, and that's from doing it on the first go-around.

Picking a tough mission for your first fight with a new weapon type, one with a higher skill barrier/learning curve than most other types, doesn't seem like a fair way to assess whether or not the weapon type is good or not, no?

I say this as someone who isn't a big fan of the GS in general. But I know it's because I'm rubbish with it. In the hands of players who enjoy and are skilled with it, it's a devastating weapon.

I went to make that Jho HBG set everyone has been using but then I realized I only had one Artillery jewel. I knew I had a ton of trash decorations lying around so I figured I'd use the melder before farming. I then proceded to meld two in a row. I presume I will now be locked out of good drops for the rest of the Spring Festival.

But this is what Capcom wanted, to run Monster Hunter World as a service. They need to make money elsewhere if they are going to pump free monsters and dlc. They can't run loot boxes as it would ruin the game but there nothing wrong with selling cosmetics in the full price games if it supports free dlc down the road. Besides even if people wanted to support Capcom and MHW with their money we really can't as there is not much to buy on the store. I bought everything there was to support them but they could offer so much more stuff to buy that doesn't affect gameplay at all.

People just want cool armor layers. Don't see an issue with DLC cosmetics, it hurts no one, gives Capcom more money to support the game and most importantly would let us use great skills and not look like clowns.

I truly don't get their focus on stickers and gestures over armor though.... it makes no sense.

Well, I'm going to be the grumpy old gamer and disagree. Not going to get into an anti-MTX thing here except to say I think they committed to all free DLC. Costmetics etc count as DLC. I'm sure they can afford some post-launch support having sold many millions of copies.

I unlocked augmentation a while back. Kind of disappointed there was no further armour customisation beyond raising defence. Doesn't feel like there is any content left to grind up for except Deviljho (is that permanent?) so might take a breather for a while. I'm approaching the 200 hour mark so that's usually when I will rotate out a game for a break.

I'm always like "Alright an attack incoming, time to dodge, wait should I block, oh no right, time to tackle! but wait is it at the very end like CB and block points or should I buffer it first like a lance counter" You have fainted.

I guess I should now farm for some Tempered elders investigations while the festival is still going on.
