Yes, by going against GoW. People who will get this digitally sure as hell won't watch the EZA stream as soon this drops.
Some timezones don't work well with the game release and EZA stream at all.

PSN games don't typically become available until midnight EST on release day. Only 1 hour of the stream would be overlapping.

When you get a set amount of income every month, you expect that level of income. This is their job. Good quality cameras and other production equipment can easily cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. It's unreasonable to expect this level of money to come out of their monthly income that they depend on.

This is exactly the kind of investment that justifies a fundraiser. I will look forward to participating and hope they get everything they're wanting and more. I have been wanting to see them get great quality cameras (among other equipment) for a long time.

This is also an important step that will make the eventual transition to a studio environment much smoother.

For those asking about the part time / full time thing. I'm not entirely sure those descriptions make the most sense now. Damiani, Ben, and myself are given a higher rate and have more responsibilities and expectations, but everyone is working their butts off. Don obviously has a full time job with Funhaus, but as far as I know, Ian is the only other one who regularly takes on side work.

Yeah, it's clear in the time investment that all the allies besides Don consider EZA the primary (or even the only) job of theirs. It made sense early on when EZA was a new and uncertain thing that most of you would be looking for outside sources of income, but now its at a level of consistency that makes it work investing fully in it.

This is exactly the kind of fundraiser we need to see. This is the kind of thing that promotes growth for tangible things, rather than tiers that can go away if they have a bad month. Also, a fundraiser could possibly allow them to take money from whatever they set aside for equipment and such and push that towards the Allies who are looking for extra motivation to maybe do one more show or something. Not that that's what's happening, but who knows. Yes, they're using E3 as the raison d'être for the fundraiser, but that money can only stand to benefit them long after June is over. E3 is just an excuse to level up.

I think the videos look and sound pretty great already so I'm curious to see what new equipment they're eyeing up and what differences it will make.

It's not fishy at all, you need more income to grow a business.

I often wonder why they don't do some shopping around for corporate sponsors/advertisers in addition to the folks on their Patreon sponsor $500 tier. Seems to me like it'd be an easy way to expand their cash flow a bit and grow things out more without compromising their content. Get the right deals and you could be looking at a very substantial boost to their monthly budgets. Are they just intent on Patreon being their only direct funding source?

I could start god of war before the fundraiser begins because time zones but might get it delivered physically anyway. True hype tug of war though live events generally take priority.

A possible problem with this is that some people will stop their patronage if they do something like this. It's the same as the reactions to kickstarted games that afterwards were funded by a big publisher or kickstarted games that were put on the site by big publishers. Not everybody agrees with doing it like that.

The other (and probably bigger) problem is, how do you differentiate between those sponsor tiers and make it so that both of those tiers still want to invest?
Do you put the corporate sponsors (who fund more) bigger on your website? Do they appear on more videos?

At the moment the difference is that you appear on a show that's every week or once per 2 weeks, but with corporate sponsors like that you should at least feature them on both or so.
But is that enough for them to not just pay the $500 tier? What extras do they get over the $500 tier that doesn't upset the people paying $500 per month?

I am not sure if there is an easy solution for this.

That said, I wouldn't mind it myself if the way those corporate sponsors are shown is not too obnoxious and maybe they can find a way to work it out so most people are happy (but I am not sure how to do this).

edit:
Just to be clear, I don't know anything about marketing and there probably is a way. I just don't think it's as easy as mailing or calling a few bigger companies for their support.

Jones talked about this on cup of jones in the last couple of weeks. Can't remember exactly when. Maybe someone else does. Sounds like they are open to it anyways.

I've been looking forward to a gundam stream but I don't see any on the schedule. Its been months! Has that stream been cut?

I think I have heard Kyle saying he personally wouldn't do one until the Box Peek episodes have finished (he said so on one of the SSX streams if I remember correctly), but he wouldn't mind the others doing a gundam stream without him.
That said, I suspect there won't be a gundam stream until all the Box Peek episodes are done (that means created, not aired).

I am quite sure it hasn't been cut. Kyle is just busy with Box Peek.

I feel like now would be a good time to do a gundam stream that invokes some of the other allies who have been gifted model kits but never put them together. I'm pretty sure every ally has been gifted atleast one kit at this point.

Probably been said before but watching bosmans chamber of secrets streams has made me realise that the perfect follow up to 'Brandon plays Pokemon' would be 'Kyle reads Harry Potter'. Him reading a few chapters a week and coming in with notes to report back to jones would be great. Shame Kyle 'books suck' bosman would never be into it.

Well said.

I don't see how 8 or 9 people even survive in LA on the amount of money they get from Patreon and Twitch as it is, let alone wanting to buy expensive new camera equipment. Perfect use for a fundraiser.

There has been a low key campaign for this for a few months now. I don't think it will happen but it would be cool if they did. It would very interesting to a lot of Harry potter fans who don't play games.

I think this could be a cool show, but Kyle said he's seen all the Harry Potter movies. I don't think it'd be as fun as it could be because he knows the broad strokes of what happens (obviously lots of details are different but still).

It wouldn't be nearly the same as Brandon plays pokemon but Kyle playing chamber of secrets is proof enough to me that Kyle doesn't remember most of Harry potter.

The last time I brought this up I told Kyle it would be the last time I bring it up so I'm gonna stop going on about it lol.

For a 9 people full-time crew their output is pretty lackluster (low effort twitch streams don't really count).

Them living from paycheck-to-paycheck and not bothering to plan their finances to save up for new cameras/equipment over these 2 years doesn't instill much confidence. Having the proper tools to do your job would be quite high in my priority list.

It's sure is good EZA has such a dedicated fanbase.

1.) They are not all 9 full time, which has been stated several times in the past page or 2 of this thread. More specifically, the editors are not full time which is why the produced content has been slim and slow to come out. More of the allies have been trying to take some of the load off of the editing bottleneck by learning how to edit themselves. It takes a while to get proficient with it so I'm sure it will get better over time.

2.) They do plan out expenses and, per Jones on CoJ, they don't let a penny go by underutilized. If they have anything left over after everyone's salaries, taxes, Patreon cut, etc. then they put it towards an event such as going to cover a convention or most recently the 2 year anniversary. Whether you feel that is worth putting that money towards or if you think they should have skipped events/their anniversary event is a fair opinion to have either way, but I don't believe it can be said that there is miss-management of money happening

3.) Yes they do, even those like myself who didn't even know they existed back in the GT days.

That's not including all of their taxes, fees that Patreon takes, maintenance, Jones' mortgage so they have somewhere to shoot, etc. Even then, 3k per month per ally is a really, really meager amount of money.

actually the number we see should already be after the patreon cuts. at least that's what they say

Now, the public-facing number you see on your page will always reflect the total amount of pledges to you minus:

  1. Transaction fees
  2. Patreon's 5%
  3. Declined pledges

but yeah their salaries aren't exactly high.

Uh, they have improved their production significantly since early on.

You seem to be talking about their production like they're owned by a company that would give them the means to produce a lot of stuff. That's not the case. They're literally funded by regular people and can do as much as the people are willing to give.

If it's any consolation, he's said on the subreddit that unless they figure out a much faster way to produce/film the show (or it does bonkers numbers on YouTube) there won't be a second season of Box Peek. I'm guessing whatever project he eventually starts up after that he'll try to make sure it won't take up as much of his time.

Except that they do plan out there expenses and purchase new things quite often. They have purchased a new camera in the past, they somewhat recently bought new lights and they got damiani a Mic for when he's at the pc durring streams. That's not to mention that they just had there big concert. Nowhere do they say that they are living "paycheck to paycheck."

What do the Twitch bits do exactly?
Twitch saw that a lot of streamers were getting direct donations on their streams (e.g. through PayPal). Twitch Bits are their way to try to cut out the middleman and get a part of that money directly. Using Bits on stream gets a special notification and plus you get special icons in chat depending on how much you've donated. In the US, I think 100 bits is equivalent to $1.

I don't know, I'm not sure glasses would suit him.
There are a lot of different styles of glasses. I'm sure he could find something that looks good.
