Was anyone else able to pretty much fill up the skill tree straight away? When I started
it up I had 12 skill points already there, didn't think they would carry over from the base game.

Only played a little bit last night but loving it so far. Snow angel was one of the first things to be done.

I've finally revisited (and restarted) the base game after Zelda derailed me back in March, and I'm enjoying the story a lot more this time. I'm also more into the wildlife hunting and foraging than I was the first time. I just finished the first cauldron, which is further than I'd previously got by far. I really dig the Witcher 3 style beast log and ability switching stuff. Enemies feel like they need to be respected, which is rare for games this.

Question: do you get enough points to max the skill tree during the game, or do you actually have to make some tough choices at a point? Also, how long is the game?

Yeah, you can max out everything if you reach max level and do some side-quests that award skill points. My save file doing pretty much everything in the game (before Frozen Wilds, mind you) landed at 50 hours. Only campaigning the game should take 20-30 hours.

More than enough to max it appears. A above I said I started the DLC with 12 skill points waiting after completing the game earlier in the year at level 50 with the skill tree completed.

Took me about 45 hours to platinum it so it depends on how you play really.

The use of vignette is incredible visual technique to emulate the feel of heavy snow

As well as the audio aspect of a muted soundlandscape during snow.

Same here, I immediately filled the skill tree and still had 36 points left. The new skills are a bit lackluster, honestly. I haven't used any of them so far.

So I booted this up last night having not played Horizon for months and I have to say it's pretty frustrating that they decided to put a seemingly very tough machine as the first thing you encounter! I dunno if this is just me but I would have appreciated a bit of an easier learning curve coming back to the game after so much time. The new skills are really boring too by the looks of it, just things to speed up the tedium of collecting things.

Not a fan of the new skills, I never liked using the mounts in the base game it was more fun to just run everywhere on foot.

Yea that did suck, had to use a lot of tripwires to kill it but at least it quickly reminded me how to play.

I find the mount related skills very useless. I never use mounts, I like running around and if it's too far I just fast travel.

Edit: ^ I'm not alone.

I've been looking at this page for info on the three elemental weapons they added in the DLC. Are those damage values incorrect or did they seriously nerf them for Ultra Hard?

My Stormslinger only does 43 impact damage while that page says it should do 340.

the only thing i dislike, is that the performance took a huge hit in some areas. the main game in resolution mode was pretty solid 30 fps. in frozen wilds, there is a pretty big difference between resolution and performance mode. the latter just feels much smoother and better to play, since resolution mode drops under 30 fps much more often.

the mount skills are probably better for new gamers starting horizon anew as the skills can be bought early for these gamers. If you're a horizon gamer, like I am. ... I never bothered to even try.

Oh wow, totally forgot about this. I rushed through the main game skipping a lot of the side quests at the last half, really want to go back and do that but finding it hard since I have already completed the main story. Maybe this will give me a push.

The next Horizon game needs customisable mounts. Cauldrons could have new schematics for upgrade components, and then tribal decorations on top for prettiness.

One criticism I will levy at the game is its FOV. Normally, it isn't an issue, but when on any sort of incline, or in the case of a story quest in the DLC:

When fighting the two demonic stalkers in the cave on the Shaman's Path, it is absolutely brutal. It's hard to turn the camera around to see them.

by this point in time,
stalkers
are pretty easy to kill. Ground/Rope traps, a couple of triple arrows. etc.

Apparently the thirst for this game was real. The Horizon early black friday deal at best buy already sold out.

I am not finding these new machines or the demonic machines any more difficult than the machines in the base game on Ultra Hard.

It's still just use the Ropecaster, knock off glowing components, blast the fuck out of them with the Blast Sling.

The only thing it really does is burn through your wires and blaze.

I'm not sure if I should start a new game plus for the DLC or just access it from my current end game point?

I'm wondering if I should start a new game+ and play the base game over on hard or just go directly to the dlc. I haven't played this game in a really long time. I'm probably rusty.

Wait, how do you even trigger NG+? The option is hollowed out on my menu. I have the looming shadow end game save and everything.

Will catch up on this thread once I've had a chance to dive into it (still wrapping up AC Origins), but damn. "Red Head Redemption 2" make me chuckle real hard.

Meant to play a bit last night and ended up making myself stop just before midnight. Once the game gets you hooked again it is hard to give it up!

Loving the environment and detail for the area. I spent some time looking around but have been speeding through it too so I'll have to slow down and look a bit. Seeing people here mention things like the way it looks and sounds during the levels of snow is making me recall that or want to go pay attention to it too.

Going 10 months without playing makes it tough at first getting back into it. Glad to see I'm not alone finding it tough after an absence although I'm sticking with the setting of easy (I never raised it after learning the game) since it is tough to remember what to do in combat. I need to do a new game and then pass through the new area again on normal difficulty and taking the combat more seriously.

Amazing to see what they can do in 8-10 months! Makes the wait for another Horizon game seem unbearable but after seeing the quality is still there it will be worth it.

I wish there was an option to quick change outfits.
I like to run stealth, but if I'm found I change to the secret one.

Could be L1+square or something to loop between 2 outfits.

Anyone know if the complete edition will have all the content on disc, or vanilla disc + dlc code?

Gonna disagree with you. I'm playing on Ultra Hard.
I've actually found Stalkers to be one of the easier enemies on Ultra Hard since their HP is fairly low.

My main strategy is to first hit them twice with freeze ammo from the sling; this is enough to apply the freeze debuff if your mods are near maxed out with the element. Then just hit them twice in the face with triple arrows from the sharpshot bow and they'll be dead before they can attack you.

Definitely not as polished as the main game so far. I've noticed frame rate issues, texture pop-in, abrupt change of time of day. Nothing major, but still unfortunate.

The snow effects are absolutely insane. I find myself stopping constantly after a battle to just look at how all the snow has been moved around. Makes it really look like a battle took place.

The new skills are such a joke. New machines are okay but the flame dude is ultra annoying to fight.

About NG+... I really want to finish this off on Ultra Hard so I have all the trophies... but I feel like it will be a massive grind. Has anyone cleared this on Ultra Hard? From what I've seen the difficulty increase just makes the machines do insane damage and become massive arrow sponges.

3 MINUTES AND FUCKING 9 SECONDS

FUCK YOU, CHIEFTAIN TRIAL!!!
Ya... fuck that - I just dropped the trials to Easy and got them over with. No clue how they can be considered balanced if the time goals don't change even on Ultra Hard difficulty.

These fuckers did New Game Plus the right way! I can replay with all of my gear and inventory, I can play at any level I want to, AND NG+ automatically SKIPS most of the tutorial bullshit. I hope more studios look at this (plus their 15 to 20 hour DLC) and use it as an example.
