EA's DICE studio is testing a battle royale mode for Battlefield V that features similar gameplay to megahits like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, according to someone with knowledge of the studio who asked to remain anonymous. In those last player-standing shooters, 100 players drop onto a map and fight until only one person or team is left standing, and that game type has taken over the industry.

Honestly to the surprise of no one.

Battlefield V team loves that Call of Duty may ditch its campaign

The Battlefield team at developer DICE is ecstatic today, according to a source familiar with the studio. That's because Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 may not have a single-player campaign when it ships in October, according to Polygon and multiple corroborating reports on Activsion's biggest series. Instead, Black Ops developer Treyarch is focusing on the military shooter's competitive multiplayer and cooperative zombies mode, which are both megapopular with Call of Duty's millions of players.

If Black Ops 4 launches without a campaign, the team at DICE is happy because it thinks it may have an advantage over its rival when it launches the next Battlefield. EA has already announced that it will release a Battlefield sequel this year, and in March, I reported Battlefield V (as EA is calling it) will return to World War II. In Battlefield V, DICE is planning to continue the vignette-style storytelling that it started in the campaign for Battlefield 1, and that offering could now attract people who played Call of Duty for its bombastic action-movie-like stories.

TLDR: BR mode is coming and is being tested. Single player is staying and DICE is ecstatic that Black Ops IIII isn't having a story mode.

Bring it on. I've said since PUBG came out that I would love to see all the major franchises bring their take on this genre to the table. Battlefield isn't usually a series I care about, but this has my interest, along with the COD Battle Royale mode.

E3 conferences will be 90 minutes of Battle Royale modes for every game in development.

My only wish with all the BR "clones" is that people will get tired quick and go back to classic arena gameplay

PUBGs exclusivity will continue to be a own goal on consoles.

By the time it hits PS4 and possibly switch, Everything and their momma will have a Battle Royale mode.

That being said, it will still be one the Xbox ones biggest selling games so I guess the trade off was worth it.

Tell you what. I don't mind BR and I do enjoy it, but if someone this fall does a multiplayer game that doesn't have BR, I'll buy that.

I don't want every game I play to be the same thing.

The only rumoured BR mode I'm actually really excited for (though I'm really curious about the RDR2 rumor and how they set it up). Battlefield already has a lot of the ingredients for a great BR game.

Battlefield will be the epitome of BR games. CoD will be close second but destructible environments will be too good. This fall if both rumors are true then PUBG is dead. Fortnite still has a unique gimmick, artstyle and f2p to make it worried for most competition.

I genuinely believe the Battlefield fan base would have gave DICE shit for not trying a Battle Royale despite the fact they're only going to play Conquest anyways.

battlefield uses hitscan guns right?

i can't imagine that would be fun for a large-scale BR mode, same for CoD. they'd also have to up the ttk somewhat.

Yea I read that article before.
I mean it was just a matter of time.
I'm not very into BR, I rather play MMOs but hey, maybe competition will spur new ideas and better future games... or maybe they will just stagnate and oversaturate the market...

Battlefield is probably the most logical fit for a BR mode

Its already most of the way ready with its high player counts and large maps.

I can't wait for this E3. How many battle royale modes are we gonna have to look forward to after that week?
