Yeah. Then Kimi got annihilated by Nando and he's been asleep behind the wheel ever since.
Odds are that 2012 Lotus would've performed better if it wasn't for Grosjean and Kimi as their drivers.

A few weeks back I suggested Danny Ric to Mercedes. Now I've changed my mind.
Mercedes seem more hesitent to hire someone who will give the established number 1 a run for their money. I think Ferrari would jump at a chance to hire a sponsor friendly, charismatic driver from Italian decent, who speaks the language fluidly - Ricciardo checks all the boxes.
Ferrari have a car equal to Mercedes, that can work the tires properly, and has a team that is probably the best at strategy in the pitlane. I would suggest they would also pay Danny Ric a lot more money - and he himself has said he can't see himself racing in F1 in his mid-30s, so he will be after a lucrative contract.
They're very good at running their mechanics over in the pit lane, if that counts as a strategy.
Neither Melbourne nor Bahrain were won with superior strategy.
Ferrari is so great at strategy us mere mortals can't even comprehend it.
It was a terrible move, sure. Not only did it throw Kimi back several places (putting aside the safety car and Max shuffle that put him back to P3), it also had little chance of working on a track like that and is terrible publicity.I could understand the move at that race, not in the most recent one though.
True, but at least they had the common sense to do separate stratehies with the 2 cars, so they got a podium either way.I can't think of a race where Ferrari won based on their race management during changing situations.
I'm curious where McLaren would have been now if they had stayed with Mercedes as engine supplier. Maybe about on par with Red Bull right now?
2012 is arguably worse because they had a fast car but shit reliability that cost them the championship AND Hamilton. They lost to Williams in 2014 (and to Lotus in 2013). Their last good year was probably 2012.
Ferrari was shit in 2014 and 2016. Williams was good in 2014. What's your point? They were shit with Mercedes in 2014, they are shit with Renault.
So I doubt it.

But everyone can build a shit car every now and then. That doesn't mean they won't improve ever again. Force India dropped off this season as well. Are they done, too? That McLaren is holding McLaren back instead of Honda, and that they would not have a chassis that rivals Red Bull's.
Sad reminder that Force India might actually fold by the end of the month if no investors can be found. That's the kind of situation they're in.
Probably, yes. Same as Williams. They threatened to pull out of F1 if the budget cap of 150M isn't put in place.
I think McLaren could've maybe helped bridge the gap with a Mercedes motor. Everybody with Mercedes were doing quite well at that time.

RIP MGU-H, apparently. It'll be interesting how they'll compensate for the loss of power, it supposedly really helped with turbo lag.

Ha, that's a good one.I shouldn't get my hopes up but so far all three front runners show signs of trouble, what if McLaren beats all of them and takes the title? No fuck it, I am getting my hopes up, this the year I've been waiting for since 2006. Go Nando!!
I just want to see him win 3 titles until 2020 and then retire as the greatest driver ever.
