Really loved the first episode, can't think of anything negative other than it ending and having to wait for the next episode. Definitely needed this since Marcella S2 just ended
No Canadian broadcaster yet. But it's at mipmarket/Canneseries (big international TV market) so it should probably have one soon. They did just announce Canal + will carry it in France.
The original books were named after Villanelle, actually. The first episode was great. I find the title really strange at this point though, as I'm wondering how it will fit as the show goes on. Killing Eve....presumably this wouldn't be that hard to do? If so is that actually going to be a goal of Villanelle's? So far Villanelle seems a better title.
I'll Deal With Him Later
In the aftermath of her recent assignment, Villanelle is ordered to take a break. Never one to do as she's told, she goes ahead with her next mission regardless. Meanwhile, Eve is given a dream opportunity to join a secret MI6 unit tracking Villanelle.
The first time Jodie Comer met Phoebe Waller-Bridge wasn't when she auditioned for a role on her BBC America show Killing Eve, but rather months before, at a party for the BAFTAs. It was hours into the night—the glamour was coming undone, the booze was flowing, and Comer and Waller-Bridge were both drunk and making frothy party chatter.
"I didn't know nottin' about Killing Eve," Comer recalls in her thick Liverpudlian accent. "Then my audition came along and I was like"—her voice drops into a dramatic whisper—"Oh my God, I was so drunk that night. This is really awkward."
Agreed pretty susSuspicious things that Bill (Eve's former boss has done)
Lied to Eve about the CCTV - Told her that is was a male
Tried very hard to dissuade Eve from her "single killer" theory in the first meeting at the MI6 office.
Disappeared mid-meeting for chocolate.
Showed up unannounced in the middle of the night at the office

Tie that in with the fact that Villanelle's handler, and Bill's opposite was able to give out Eve's name so quickly after the case started makes me very suspicious.
Also, also, also. I would be remiss to not mention the duo of articles (from two of my favourite writers) on the duo of assassin-themed shows: Welcome To The Golden Age Of Shows About Assassins - Uproxx, Brian Grubb; Small screen hits: why we're so fascinated with contract killers - The Guardian, Charles Bramesco.
Comer's expressions of fascination as she watches her prey is so good.
Despite making all guys stupid, it doesn't feel forced like ghostbusters.
Ghostbusters 2016 did a number on people for whatever reason. Not that it makes any more sense since there haven't been any outright dumb duides in the show. My beloved Sebastian (RIP, gone too soon) was at worst naïve.

I don't think all the guys are stupid. The husband seems pretty competent. Are you thinking there's misandry here? Or at least do you think Ghostbusters 2018 was misandrist?I like this show so far despite Sandra. I think she's miscast here, her acting is hit and miss. Also, the marketing, flyers, posters, trailers were so cringey and edgy that I almost didn't give the show a chance. Comer is amazing. Despite making all guys stupid, it doesn't feel forced like ghostbusters. I dig it.
Disagree. She was surprised, but it was more intrigue, or excitement even.
Don't I Know You?
When Villanelle kills a Chinese colonel at a kink clinic in Berlin, Eve and Bill travel to investigate. While Eve and Bill chase a number of promising leads, Villanelle enjoys the cat-and-mouse of their proximity.
I still love the show, but the tone felt off when Bill died. The show thus far treats death as such a joke that when a character we care about dies I just didn't think it was balanced well. I sort of think it would've worked better if Eve hadn't witnessed it.
It felt dissonant to me. This was the first death we are really meant to care about, so I want to hate Eve but it's kind of hard to. She's still likeable and charming in in her psychopathy, and the way she smiled at Bill was absurd.Oh fuck, not Bill :(
David Haig had wonderful chemistry with Sandra Oh and his character will be missed greatly. I loved his and Eve's interactions throughout the episode.
Weird, I was thinking to myself earlier how well the show manages to balance the serious deaths (Bill and the people at the hospital) with the more "fun" deaths of the assassination targets.

"Killing Eve" achieves its pathos by exploiting and subverting various tropes of the thriller, and likewise catches a surprising tone, toggling between Eve's pedestrian anxieties and her action-hero fears.
The triumph of Waller-Bridge's style is in its reconciliation of the outlandish and the intimate. The Jason Bourne-style escapism of the bare premise, inflected by the assertively odd tone, yields fresh depictions of fear and grief. Critics and fans have noted that Villanelle, significantly, does not often act as a temptress in the course of the plot. Rather than seducing and betraying, she tends to prefer infiltrating and annihilating. She is instead seductive in her confidence and her competence, a temptress with an apple that tastes of unexpected knowledge.
Sorry Baby
Intel from Berlin points to the existence of a mole, prompting Eve to undertake her first surveillance operation. Meanwhile, Villanelle is sent to England to eliminate a member of British Intelligence.

The New Yorker weighs in: Why "Killing Eve" Is Not the Show It First Appeared to Be
High fashion and television don't have the best relationship. The characters on most TV shows are either in period costume or fantasy dress, à la Westworld and The Handmaid's Tale, or in hard-to-place contemporary clothing that is often either rented or custom-made. Rarely do you see a character whirling through Paris in a shocking pink Molly Goddard dress and Balenciaga boots but that's exactly what happened on BBC America's Killing Eve.
What makes De Gaye's costume design on Killing Eve so remarkable is that she's not only finding innovative ways to include contemporary luxury items on a TV series but has also redefined the look of an international assassin story.
If you're a fan of psychopathic female assassins, but also enjoy a good Prada or Burberry runway, then Killing Eve is the show for you.

That was just brutal, especially giving her hope for a brighter future before backing up over her.
