That would be great, it would also be nice if the mod team would give some kind of response of what the site is gonna do with Activision/Blizzard threads and other game companies with similar practices.

I have been doing a compendium of all the news I am finding about similar practices in this post with compendium of the news. (more than 80 links so far)
I'm planning to write a (german) article about this over the weekend, I hope it's fine for you if i take your post for sourcing :) I was literally hoping someone would post all the things happening in one place, and I couldn't find a single site.

Completely fine! I am updating it daily, though there may be some dead tweets since some Blizzard leaders deleted their entire accounts lol.

I never said anything about dismissing his behavior. He should have been fired after the first incident, period. But I'm not going to pretend like that totally batshit insane unhinged letter is from a person with a sound mind and really some elaborate scheme. Shit is just absolutely insane to the point where he dude clearly needs years and years of therapy and probably medicitation, and at the same time he is also clearly a malicious and predatory person that needed to be fired a decade ago. Fuck Blizzard for not firing him earlier, and fuck Riot for hiring despite the shitload of warnings. The industry is rotten to its core and fundamentally dismisses the experience of women out of pure misogyny.

How about we stop blaming mental illness for every evil of the world. There is enough stigma around mental health without it being implicated every time somebody does something bad.

The dudes a fucking creep who doesn't know how to take no for an answer.

Who really cares about her shirt? Not exactly the key thing here

I said it wasn't the key thing.

But it sounded way worse when I thought she applied for a position and these guys just randomly brought up penetration. It's still absolutely terrible, just now there's some context on how there was even an inkling in their brains why they should line up that conversation.

If you feel compelled to add "but"' to your post, you should just not post.

It's a silly shirt about pentesting, not an invitation to harass someone.

edit: and they were at blackhat where the entire convention is about security. Fuck off with the "the shirt was inappropriate" nonsense.

Maybe this might be too much to hope but is this a sign that some companies might actually do something with what's been revealed with the industry? After the last week, dare I hope?

Ah, now they want to reach out. I guess its something.
Given that other companies hired union busters, it's a small glimmer of hope but I am taking it. There might be stuff going on in the background but I haven't really seen any companies actually take proactive steps and it being just like all the other Me Too moments in the industry were the victims' stories get a load of clicks for journalists and then it fizzles out and no actually improvement happens and no one really brings it up is a real worry for me. Have to have some hope.

Should have been done when she reported it or when she left the company, but still miles better then the company who gets sued and tries to claim innocence.

According to court documents, police learned that Activision Blizzard had a problem when a male employee showed up in the lobby of the police department on August 23, 2018 at 10:47 p.m. The employee, who is anonymous in the court documents, "stated that he received an e-mail from Human Resources that an unauthorized monitoring device had been installed in the unisex bathrooms and that Activision was doing an internal investigation." It is unclear from the documents whether this employee was formally acting on behalf of Activision the company or if they were independently reporting a crime at work, however, Activision said in a statement to Waypoint that it "notified the authorities."
Ah yes if I was an employer this is definitely how I would choose to report a crime

Isn't it likely that this is to pull statements from her for EA's lawyers so they can cover their asses?

There have been a few posts about how Blizzard employees should avoid talking to anyone from Activision corporate reaching out to them, even if it seems like they are trying to "help".

She no longer works at EA and hasn't for a while - she seems optimistic about it and I've seen other people on the comments who I know work at EA who know her that seem to be encouraging her so it could be a good thing? Like it may turn out they won't do anything but maybe a bit of hope they will?

Every new story that comes out proves how much this industry needs to drastically change. I truly hope that the size of this story leads to the removal of all the abusers and toxic management that participated in or allowed this culture to thrive. I truly fear Activision/Blizzard is going to start trying to demonize the women who have bravely come forward and weaponize their most loyal and crazed fanbase to try and disincentivize more people from speaking out. If they do this I hope to hell they get called out by all the game sites, papers, and media.

Jesus Christ, it gets even worse...

I did the exact opposite of this once. The first time I ever went to a trade show I starting asking someone at a booth for some very specific technical information. She turned out to be a model they'd hired just for the show. She was wearing a company badge, was dressed in a way that would not be out of place in any office, and I'd still never heard of a "booth babe" at the time.

This happened ALL THE TIME during the era of "booth babes". The best thing about it was a lot of the time the people it happened to were too embarrassed once they figured out they were talking to a model thinking it was an employee that they immediately would flee the booth.

So the entire point of using that misogynistic garbage to 'attract' people to the booth ended up backfiring.

Names getting named! Hell yeah!
Hope they get exactly what's coming to them!

Also good news on EA seemingly being on the ball now sooner than never.

As a side note- how did they fuck up Bill Cosby's name twice in a row in those court documents?

That can't be used by the defense to try to diminish the case, can it? Like saying "The prosecution can't even get the name of the room right, what else have they gotten wrong?"

Wow, I had pretty serious social anxiety at the time and I didn't give any thought to bugging out.
I don't know why I should have been embarrassed anyway. She looked like she belonged, and she didn't have a vacant look in her eyes or anything to suggest she was less than capable.

Errors like that are unprofessional but more common than you'd think. An error like that doesn't affect facts and will just be moved past.

The innuendo of that shirt is tasteless. That's separate from the rest of the issue and it shouldn't be used to excuse their behavior.

But it's a tasteless, dumb tech-dude's shirt.

Could someone please explain to me what seems like useless liberal nonsense of encouraging folk to donate to charities on this forum and not encouraging folk to unionise?
Especially when one of these charities opposes sex workers rights and safety.

It was her shirt. She's a pen tester. At a convention with a lot of pen testers. She can wear whatever the fuck she wants without having to deal with morons.

This might be the only silver lining from this entire mess. It's just lip service for now, but it's a far cry from outright denial. If this case goes through to completion and sets a precedent, I think there will be a LOT of companies sending those sorts of e-mails out.

I explicitly said that. But the shirt is also in bad taste. These two things are true, and acknowledging that isn't the same as excusing the behavior of men behaving badly.

To someone who has survived child sexual assault (me), the shirt isn't some benign joke. It promotes attitudes that contributed to my assault.

I hope so but these kinds of things can be done on behalf of executives looking to squash whistleblowers, not fix problems:

God damn all these companies are seeing what is happening and freaking out. Would rather silence folks and squash union attempts rather than help their employees. Jesus fucking christ. I got a feeling some peope are shook and trying damage control

We have several locations that are unionised, for example, all our locations in Sweden are part of the Unionen union.
As someone that works for EA, go them them I would say (regarding the content of Sam's tweet).

On this note, I personally do not understand Americans' big pushback against unions, but then I also do not understand why they think socialism is bad. 🤷‍♀️
