it's a damn good game but has some flaws which i suppose is fine but i expect them to be addressed in Horizon 2.

my biggest issues were having so much story locked behind audio tapes/text. i don't mind this but they went way overboard with it. tell more of the story through cutscenes. the world map is beautiful and really varied but i felt no reason to travel by foot or machine so ended up just fast travelling. also it doesn't help that they constantly have you going from one end of the map to the other with each mission. how can they lock so much story behind audio/text which require exploration and then make it tedious as hell to explore.

Honestly I tried to jump back into it when I got my OLED a couple months ago and I couldn't even remember how it controlled, which was annoying. Is the DLC worth going back for? It's an amazing game regardless.

THIS GAME IS FUCKING amazing.

I am so angry at myself for waiting this long to play it. Granted, Breath of the Wild released the same week but still...

There's just so much that I can gush over: the combat, the environments, the enemy designs, the challenge...

GOD
IT'S
JUST
SO
GOOOOOD

I put at least 25 hours into it so far and I'm pretty sure I'm overleveled haha. I'm at level 30 and I just got to Meridian then I see that the recommended level is 12.

Let's go into detail about how amazing it is:

- The combat is amazing. I've always been a big fan of archery and this game makes it feel so satisfying. Especially love shooting an enemy's weakspot and hearing that sound when it plays.

- The game is fucking gorgeous. I never really cared for graphics but this was the first game to make me stop and actually take in the environments. And I have the peasant PS4. I can't even imagine this shit on a Pro. Don't think I can handle it.

- This game does have quite a few similarities with Breath of the Wild. The tallnecks are like the towers, the cauldrons are like the shrines. It's pretty much a western BOTW.

- This game also has the best enemy design that I've seen in a game since Bayonetta. Just look at this shit:

hzd__thunderjaw__by_xelku9-db130py.jpg

That my friends, is a thunderjaw. These fuckers are huge. Absolute unit.

- The challenge is present. I love the fast pace and the fact that the game isn't scared to kick your ass. "Oh what's that? You're busy fighting a Thunderjaw? Tough shit, here's another one for you to fight." I'm almost scared to try Ultra Hard.

The game isn't perfect of course. Totally not a fan of the way the conversations play out with the whole "single camera look." It looks like an episode of The Office. I half expect Aloy to glance at the camera whenever someone says something stupid. It just looks so lifeless.

Aloy does tend to talk alot... and I mean ALOT. Ashly Burch has a nice voice, but she talks sooo much.

A minor issue, but I hate the way they pronounce Aloy's name. You want to say "Alloy" but it's supposed to be pronounced "Ae-loy."

Also not a fan of inventory management. I'm a hoarder dammit, let me hoard.

Those flaws barely bother me when I'm getting lost in the world marveling at an ancient ruin, fighting for my life against a giant mechanical crocodile or just all around having fun in the game. The biggest surprise are the people who made it. From the damn Killzone devs. I'm just ready to go back into the world and have a hell of time. Totally going to 100% this game. Platinum and all.

I can't believe this and Zelda released in the same week, with Nier the following week and Persona the month after. 2017 was a blessed time.

IT'S JUST SO GOOOOOOD
Are you playing on Normal? I played on Hard my first time and found it to be too easy. Ultra Hard isn't that if you do it on New Game+. Even on NG+ the grind for good gear can be harsh.

Nah, its just ok.

My GOTY of 2017. And I played every other major game that year. Horizon beats them all. Guerilla has an excellent franchise on its hands

do you guys see this graphically on Horizon's level or not?
i think RDR2 looks fantastic but going by that trailer it doesn't look quite as good. keep in mind that Horizon was designed purely to run on a Playstation where as RDR2 needs to run on PS/XB1/PC. oh and yeah that trailer is 19 months old.

i'll give you a definitive answer when i see RDR2 running at 4K 60fps on a PC...i'm sure then RDR2 will look way better. let's not kid ourselves on that there won't be a PC version.

I think I need to restart this game after GoW. I just can't get into it when I try to go back to where I was.

Same here. I think I put a dozen hours or so but it's just so daunting to go back.

I do think this is the best looking game out there. Aside from the 30fps cap, the visuals are just flawless. Nothing else looks this good so consistently.

It's great I loved that game and the DLC made it even better. I do wonder how long they actually worked on the DLC though because it added HOURS of extra content and came out only 9 months after the game so I wonder if that would mean a quick turn around for a sequel.

Fantastic game no doubt. Loved everything except open world was not fun to explore and some side quests were bit boring typical fetch quests. Everything else was quite good and fun.

It really is an amazing game. Beautiful story and world, with fantastic world building, great combat (well, fighting humans is meh, but fighting robots is sublime), great characters, and stunning visuals. It was my GotY 2017 hands down.

I'm playing normal and it's kicking my ass. If I see a Stormbird, Thunderjaw or Snapmaw, I'm running the fuck away

Game is amazing. GG are wizards how they pulled this off.

Thinking about how pretty this is plus there aren't static pics for draw distance. Turn in any direction and pick the furthest tiny tree you can find, lock in on it and you can go there.

Everything about this game is A+. Combat, graphics, weapons, leveling, enemy design etc..

I applaud GG for making this kind of game and setting the bar. It's like hitting a grand slam your first time up at bat.

Glad you're enjoying it more than I did. I love how pretty it looks, but the combat...god, I just can't get into it. Fighting solo dinos one on one is okay (thunderjaw fights are generally fun), but later in the game when it expects you to fight multiple large machines at once, it's just sheer torture.

This. I've stopped plying it once they started throwing multipe monsters at me.

I envy you, wish I liked it more than I did, too many things got in the way of making it a great game for me. :(

Agreed. Game is crazy good. My ONLY complaint was the missions were so far apart in the beginning and they don't do a good job of having you slowly expand the map. I was running from the complete far side of the map to the other.

It's just such a beautiful game that delivers all-round, hitting all the notes that makes a great game. And yes, OP. Thunderjaws are insane. :)

Still one of the best looking games out there

I swear the game doesn't look that smooth to me when I played it. Are people artificially smoothing it when converting the clips into gifs?

This game should be played by as many people as possible. The combat was incredibly well designed, imo. There are shortcomings but I have faith Guerilla knows what those are and will improve upon them for the sequel. I can't wait for it. Good job, Guerilla.

My game of the year 2017,defeat those huge machines never bores me,the combat sistem is so good, the best gameplay in a open world not named MGSV.

Yup. They're great at what they do! I'm just hoping the control scheme is slightly different to GTAV and less clunky. I seriously am excited to play my first RDR game. :P

RDR was a little less clunky (to me at least) than the GTA series (but not by much), so I am hoping they learned a lot from their peers, and truly evolve on that front. Either way, I enjoyed RDR more than GTA, so I am definitely clearing my gaming schedule by then for this one.

I am super stoked to play Horizon finally as well just after GoW. It just simply looks fantastic!

OP, glad you're loving it so much. It's my favourite open world game (unless NieR Automata counts as open world), but that's not saying much because I don't really like open world games.

It is currently my favorite game this generation, and sits high on my favorites of all time. It's a real joy to play and explore.

the world map is beautiful and really varied but i felt no reason to travel by foot or machine so ended up just fast travelling.

This game has the best walking or running animation and control on ground in any game. And I know some people have issue with the camera, but I think this game has the best melee and range combat camera transition. And I did need to pick health flower along the way to locations. I just enjoy walking around this activity itself.

How can they lock so much story behind audio/text which require exploration and then make it tedious as hell to explore.

Story pieces are the reason and reward for the game. I really couldn't think a way to let player and Aloy experience the past together except audio or video left by people

It's an amazing game. People often criticize the game for not being BotW and gloss over what the game did well.

Robot design and gameplay with these robots is amazing. Robot Ai is great too. I couldn't get enough of it.
The world is gorgeous but not that interactive. Little towns were a bit lifeless imo.

Best game I played last year, loved everything about it but wish there was a separate co-op and horde mode. The DLC made me drool for the visuals alone, most beautiful snow I've seen in a game.

Combat was the only worthwhile part, which is good since it's the focus of the game. Everything else though, I found lacking.

Would've liked a GoW approach to an open world instead of the lackluster Far Cry we got.

Easily my second favorite game from last year. All I can think of while playing God of War is how much I enjoyed Horizon lol.

The game is amazing in a lot of ways, but I really appreciate how unapologetically pro-environment and anti-capitalist the story is. I understand why people are turned off by the story being gated behind collectibles (it never really bothered me), and it is a real shame because I feel like it's probably the most worthwhile narrative in a video game since the first MGS trilogy.

Is the expansion content included on disc for the complete edition, or will it be a DLC code that's in the box?
