THIS GAME IS FUCKING
amazing.
I am so angry at myself for waiting this long to play it. Granted, Breath of the Wild released the same week but still...
There's just so much that I can gush over: the combat, the environments, the enemy designs, the challenge...
GOD
IT'S
JUST
SO
GOOOOOD
I put at least 25 hours into it so far and I'm pretty sure I'm overleveled haha. I'm at level 30 and I just got to Meridian then I see that the recommended level is 12.
Let's go into detail about how amazing it is:
- The combat is amazing. I've always been a big fan of archery and this game makes it feel so satisfying. Especially love shooting an enemy's weakspot and hearing that sound when it plays.
- The game is fucking gorgeous. I never really cared for graphics but this was the first game to make me stop and actually take in the environments. And I have the peasant PS4. I can't even imagine this shit on a Pro. Don't think I can handle it.
- This game does have quite a few similarities with Breath of the Wild. The tallnecks are like the towers, the cauldrons are like the shrines. It's pretty much a western BOTW.
- This game also has the best enemy design that I've seen in a game since Bayonetta. Just look at this shit:
That my friends, is a thunderjaw. These fuckers are huge. Absolute unit.
- The challenge is present. I love the fast pace and the fact that the game isn't scared to kick your ass. "Oh what's that? You're busy fighting a Thunderjaw? Tough shit, here's another one for you to fight." I'm almost scared to try Ultra Hard.
The game isn't perfect of course. Totally not a fan of the way the conversations play out with the whole "single camera look." It looks like an episode of The Office. I half expect Aloy to glance at the camera whenever someone says something stupid. It just looks so lifeless.
Aloy does tend to talk alot... and I mean ALOT. Ashly Burch has a nice voice, but she talks sooo much.
A minor issue, but I hate the way they pronounce Aloy's name. You want to say "Alloy" but it's supposed to be pronounced "Ae-loy."
Also not a fan of inventory management. I'm a hoarder dammit, let me hoard.
Those flaws barely bother me when I'm getting lost in the world marveling at an ancient ruin, fighting for my life against a giant mechanical crocodile or just all around having fun in the game. The biggest surprise are the people who made it. From the damn Killzone devs. I'm just ready to go back into the world and have a hell of time. Totally going to 100% this game. Platinum and all.
I can't believe this and Zelda released in the same week, with Nier the following week and Persona the month after. 2017 was a blessed time.
IT'S JUST SO
GOOOOOOD
