Sorry I missed yesterday's song of the day, but then again that just means I'm able to post about Khemmis' newest single "Isolation":
Yesterday's Song of the Day:

And Khemmis keeps on being one of my favourite metal bands. It's triumphant, catchy and heavy. Now if only they would tour my country.

I fucking ADORE Tapping the Vein, IMO it's one of the most slept on LPs in German thrash. Although stupidly, I am completely ignorant to most Destruction material. Most of the German thrash I absorbed was via CDs purchased at Rasputin lol. Destruction was hardly ever stocked in any form from what I saw, so that's my excuse. Recently all of their old albums have been reissued on LP by High Roller so I will be giving their stuff a proper listen in the near future.

I feel these are mandatory as well:

Sodom - Persecution Mania
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
Exumer - Possessed by Fire

I just now started listening to Tapping The Vein for the first time really. That opening I thought was going to take my head off it felt unhinged at times. No idea why I would always pass over listening to this album.

For some reason I thought I was on the current page when I quoted you haha.

Not a big fan of the band myself either
No worries, but yeah they had a good stage presence, lot of fun goofing off on stage. But by the time they came on I was pretty tired and didnt know any of their songs beyond ghost division. Just about everyone was more into it than I was. Pretty awkward time.

Song of the Day

As mentioned a few days ago I have a newfound need to jump in to Gwar. So I bought America Must Be Destroyed and gave it a spin. I have no idea why this particular song got stuck in my head, but Have You Seen Me? is an ear worm like you would not believe. When the song settles down to the little kids voice of "have you seen..." and then Oderus screams MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE its magical. I completely regret not having gotten into these guys a lot sooner. I really did not realize how good they actually are. I always included them with bands like Haunted Garage or Green Jello which were just complete jokes. Oddly, I love both those bands, but for some reason never felt the need to explore Gwar until now. Anyway, enjoy this and have fun not singing along to it a few dozen times!

Sepultura (BRA) - From the Past Comes the Storms

IMO the ultimate Sepultura recording. Raw, ugly heaviness. SPEED AND POWER.

The Land
So not only has it been dire as hell finding good new metal lately, I just found out that Christian Eriksson (vox) was kicked out of Twilight Force last year. That sucks. Heroes of Mighty Magic is still in regular rotation, such a phenomenal album.

Catching up on the Atmospheric BM channel on YT... did this genre die on us or is it me

Thoughts on the new Sleep album?
I think it's really fucking good. All that really has to be said about it is that it sounds like a new Sleep album, which is pretty much what I wanted. The production is spot on too.

Out of the actually new songs, Giza Butler is turning into one of my personal favourites. I guess my only minor complaint is that I could've done with more.

I can't wait to see em next month.

Edit:

I didn't even realise they were doing something new this soon until a buddy of mine mentioned it earlier, but Wiegedood also released a new album. So far it sounds very much in line with their first two albums, which isn't surprising since it's part III I guess. Uh, NSFW warning for the video.

Loving it so far. I liked the direction where they were going on the single, The Clarity, they put out a few years ago. It's a slight natural evolution of where I'd expect it to go with the massive riffing of Dopesmoker and Al Cisnero's chant like singing from OM. Pretty much the best of both bands.

The album as a whole does feel a little disjointed as all these songs were written over a long period of time. Basically a collection of riffs and ideas floating around since Dopesmoker, as evident by the song Sonic Titan which has been performed live around then.

Marijuanaut's Theme and Giza Butler are my favorites so far. Fucking loud, heavy, and catchy.

While Schizophrenia is good on it's own, Beneath The Remains makes me forget about everything else. I wouldn't mind a re-recording of Schizophrenia with the Morrisound treatment.

Beneath the Remains is great for sure. This is another case for me liking a more refined effort first then preferring the more crude stuff later. For a while now I've just been drawn to ultra raw sounds. I put Schizophrenia next to albums like Spectrum of Death and Violent Restitution as poster albums for dirty, dare I say FREAK NASTY thrash.

Yup. Spectrum is #2 on my list.

You can check out the other top 60 death/thrash selections below. Will have to update it soon but top ten most likely will not change

Slaughter - Strappado is my go to for the filthiest dirtiest thrash album. Just listen to that fucking tone. Need a shower after listening to it.
Fuck, I wish Don Doty, Sheepdog, and Pat Lind would do a collab vokills album.

vouch.

btw while I feel Priest vs. Maiden is one of the most natural matchups of any genre, I have always at the same time thought of them as pretty different beasts? I dunno. Priest for pure, rocking heavy metal and Maiden for mindblowing melodies and a penchant for progressiveness (also Adrian Smiff).

I kinda like that cover >.> But obviously the original is superior.

Here's a more difficult cover question: Manowar - Blood of my Enemies vs Edge of Sanity - Blood of my Enemies?

I vote the cover. Come at me, Manobros~

Priest version is better, no doubt. Just sounds natural. Halford kills it, and the guitar tone is far superior.

I saw priest live for the first time last weekend (and then they went and announced another show I'll be going to when they announced their deep purple tour) and painkiller was the only song I wanted to hear. That entire album represents my favorites parts of priest and my general heavy metal tastes.

I think halford sounds better live than dickinson too, as a huge maiden fan.
