Hey guys,
Just bought this and I'm sure that I have the specs. For some reason the game never gets past the blackscreen after the logos. Any ideas?

No matter what visual settings I choose there are serious framerate drops all over the place. It's probably down to the Unity engine again. HBS trying to push more than it can handle. Something more basic looking like Shadowrun never had any problems. Apart from that it's alright so far. I don't really understand a lot of it, but I'm sure I'll figure it out over time.

I tried to buy this game twice on steam today but for some reason it wouldn't register to my cart. I see I may have dodged a bullet here lol.

The "new player experience" i.e. the tutorial is dogshit. The game does a very poor job of introducing its stats and systems and without the strategy guide linked in the OP I would be lost. I'm enjoying the game but it is very slow, and I don't mean in terms of plot development, movement, animation, changing units, menus, etc. all feel clunky and slow enough to be annoying. The game seriously needs an option to speed up animation.

Man what the fuck is up with people? BattleTech now at Mixed reviews on Steam thanks to reviews like this: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198002309891/recommended/637090/
(also thanks to numerous tech problems, but I haven't encountered any in my 8 hours of play, so can't really comment on that)
Cripes, this is beyond pathetic. Got dudes who are so deep in the rabbit hole that they genuinely believe in completely absurd conspiracy theories that have absolutely no basis in reality. Amazing, and also terrifying at the same time.

These folks are beyond help.

The game doesn't let me continue or load save games? I just did the 1st mission, quit the game for a while, and when i boot it again I can't select continue or load in main menu :(

Also it got the usual Unity quirky fullscreen mode which is actually borderless windowed, can't change resolution beyond my monitor's native res. I wanna 1440p DSR this game, too bad my crap monitor is only 1080p. Hopefully HBS would add exclusive fullscreen mode in the future.

The game's so damn fun tho, and Jon Everist music is pure goodness.

EDIT: save game fiasco fixed. Steam was cloud syncing in the background while I boot the game. Quitting the game and let Steam finish seems to fix it, dunno why's that :p

Yeah, like i said in the review thread, this game runs absolutely dreadful. In missions with big cities the frame-rate goes to single digits. Something is wrong.

This behavior is really weird as I would not expect heavy GPU load on cinematics. Shit can't be read but is says 99 per GPU load.
edit: and basically everywhere even menu, or this below loading screen

What is the program you are using to display the load and temp? I am using hardwaremonitor but it is a desktop based program and i have to alt-tab out of the game to see the temps.

Not really directly related, but if your GPU runs very hot at 100% load you should look at it's colling system and clean it / make sure the fans are running at maximum / close to maximum. The GPU should never run at high temps.

Yes, it shouldn't and it doesn't, except for Battletech. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

MSI Afterburner from Guru3D site which downloads RivaTunerStaticsServer all at once in the installer. Then set the OSD for what you wish to have shown in the MSI Aft in settings - monitoring. Set even the keybind for on off.

The FPS you set as per game basis or as general for everything in RTSS.

Also saw something about game being too slow, haven't tried it but see this in game play options.

I just gave this a try during my lunch break. Holy smokes it does a great job at pulling you in to the lore and everything right away. I never played any of the previous Harebrained Schemes games, so I'm not familiar with their style. I backed the game because it's Battletech and because of HBS's well regarded track record.

30 minutes in, I think I love this game. Happy to have backed it. I wish it were a little prettier though.

Ohh, game looks right up my alley but have only a XPS 13 at hand (8th gen i5).
Off to my long *to-buy-when-i-have-bought/build-gaming-pc* list or when GPU thunderbolt adapters get cheaper. PS4 release seems unlikely.

I'm a sucker for good round based games which still offer something for the eye...

Thanks, red

Now I have another issue... i cant load my saved games anymore, the load button is grey and the continue button can be clicked but nothing happens. I started and loaded saved games two times before that without issues.

Anyone having issues with it crashing at the end of the tutorial? Because its done so twice now and the tutorial is not so interesting I want to re-play it.

Yep, kept happening to me. Apparently it's related to your video card not being selected as the primary display device, or so I was told by HBS customer support. Tutorial plays fine, then it crashes when loading the damn second mission. Which is crazy. Big old heaving mess.

Even forcing the GPU card usage through NVIDIA Controller doesn't do anything. No other game has given me blue screen or crashed this much in years.

That computer should be able to run this game alright at least on lower settings. It's not like the game's a particular looker anyway.

I wanted to play this on my old laptop but wont even try that. Game is maxing out everything even on lowest settings for me. No change in FPS.
For laptops I would worry about the temps this uncapped "even though capped" game makes for now.

Haven't been able to sit down with this yet. It started up like a charm at least, with no difficulties unpacking or whatever.

As someone who was sold on game by streams and lets plays, I wonder what happened that caused all of these instability issues. Hope they can rush out a patch quickly.

Maybe I'm playing this wrong, but I feel like positioning matters a lot less than in other TBS games I've played. I basically just shoot the enemy from as far away with as much as I can over and over.

I just played for a few hours and there's so much wrong with this game on the QoL and tech fronts.
During the entire development, did no one ever think that it would be a good idea to add an option for setting the tooltip delay, like in most every competent UI-heavy game since the 90s?
Or an option for speeding up / skipping animations? Also, performance seems mediocre at best given what the game is doing.

Despite all that, I totally love the game so far. It does so many things outside tech and QoL right:
  • The way it presents the setting and backstory with limited resources is awesome.
  • The story itself and the characters in your crew are interesting too, which is something that many tactics games just don't do well.
  • The mechs are spot on, visually, in terms of customization, in how they move, and also in the actions you can perform.
  • The battle mechanics seem sufficiently deep, a lot more so than in e.g. Shadowrun. (As it should be in a tactics-focused game)
And a large part of the strategy appears to be in deciding loadouts, which is also as it should be.
  • The UI - outside of QoL niggles - is actually really cool. It works well and its design is really consistent and fitting.
The "working well" part is especially important given how much there is to handle UI-wise both in battle and out of it.

Really makes you think what the ~9 months of beta was for.

Launches like this are why people have been trained to wait for Steam sales.

By all accounts this will be an incredible game after a couple of patches to fix performance & QoL issues.

From what I've seen on LPs and the like, positioning matters a lot. Not just because it affects which armor facing you can shoot at, and rear facings are much less armored than front facings, but because you can angle your mechs so that a side with relatively little in breakable things (like your big guns) takes hits from incoming fire first, it being better to lose a small laser than a PPC or something like that.

Positioning matters in so much as it determines what parts of the enemy you get to shoot at. If you're facing their side, your shots won't be able to hit the arm you aren't facing for example. However since you can't generally target individual parts (outside of a called shot), its more about guiding the random distribution of hits in your favor. Keep hitting armor on the same sides for example since it is weaker, or target rear armor for the same reason. It's possible that you're already doing these things without even thinking about it (they're just solid tactical strategy afterall). But to some degree 'Mechs are built to take a beating. The lore of Battletech is clear that BattleMechs are built so huge and tough so that the can withstand all sorts of powerful weapons and keep working. So you are rarely going to get 1 shot kills as you might in other TBS games. Which then leads to the sorts of slugging out matches you describe. Time will tell if your strategy is sound enough to keep repair costs out of battle down and make your company profitable in the long run (and honestly who knows if HBS has tuned the Merc campaign part well enough for that sort of stuff to matter).

Yeah, so many things you would expect on PC, even using scroll wheel more, space more,....

Paradox account servers are fubar, alt f4 and register goodies on there once they are up and alive again.

And to waiting...well some of us backers have now no other choice than to wait :D

I dunno, I feel like positioning is incredibly important. Facing determines odds of hitting various body parts, so if you're trying to focus down an enemy, positioning is valuable. Otherwise you're just sandpapering the target.

Digging it so far.
For some reason I can't target individual mech parts. Is that a perk I get later?

You get called shots if the opposing mech is knocked down, or if you use the Precision Shot morale ability. And even that just influences shot grouping - it doesn't guarantee a hit.

All these turns are abstracting the idea of mechs running around and shooting while moving, so accuracy is pretty loose.

Yeah it really makes me feel like a sucker picking it up day one (or pre-order in this case). Paying a premium for a sub-par experience. If I hadnt bought it on a third party site instead of Steam I'd absolutely be refunding it and waiting for some patches to roll in.
