Haha, I was thinking of doing it too. But yeah, you'd have to carefully lasso/mask the drawer as a separate layer and either redraw the whole dresser as two separate layers, both in front of the moving drawer and behind it, or put the drawer on top and make a precise mask to cover it as it slides inward. As a teacher who just got back from a spring break of slacking off, watching anime, and playing video games, this comic spoke to me on a spiritual level.
We're only a bit over a week into this new author/reboot, and it's insane how much better it is.

Hahaha yeah, I started it making it this morning and was like, this is going to be easy. Until when trying to close the drawer I saw the perspective was wonky to animate simply by moving, so I had to redraw the whole drawer because i was not going to waste all day drawing all the frames to make an amazing perspective animation of the rawer closing frame by frame lol

While I prefer MUCH more Bushmiller's artstyle and i dont think the simple photoshop coloring is doing Olivia's artsyle any favours, I love some of the really simple faces she makes on nancy (like the one yesterday) and her jokes are pretty good (just hope they dont feel too antiquated in some years becuase its true that she is using a lot of technology references in them). And yes, the phone in my face when Im reading in my bed has happen to me multiple times hahaha.
Also, is this the first appeareance of fritzi but offpanel? I actually think it would have worked better if the 3rd panel was fritzi outside nancy's door making the question instead of a repeat of the 4th.

I came into this thread and went from not having a clue what this comic was -> to becoming way too invested in Nancy lore. By gawd Gilchrist really is the worst.

Goddamn, though. I hate boomers. Reading the comments under the strips is trash. And to think these are the people that probably use the word "snowflake" as an insult.
It seems like the comments have decent support in them as well. I think there are a good amount of people enjoying it now.
Also from the comments if anyone is interested, Fritzi will be re-debuted in May. The 14th specifically

The made up kanji made the strip badYeah, she's Nancy's aunt Fritzi Ritz, main character of her own comic strip in the 20's and where Nancy debuted. Later on Nancy became the titular character 'cause popularity.

I remember reading Nancy back in the 80's when I was a little boy. I'm not sure who's run it was (I assume it was Bushmiller's), but I remember loving how weird it was.

I don't think I'm being hyperbolic when I say this is the most true thing that has ever been created in the history of human civilization.

You're right it would have worked better with Fritzi in the third panel, but there's a good reason we didn't get it... from the New York Times article:
There may be more controversy coming to the strip for fans of Nancy's aunt. "I was asked by my editors to hold off on using Fritzi for the first four weeks, since the last run ended with her getting married and she's going to be single again in my run." Brace yourselves, readers!
