So I can't find an easy answer to this anywhere, I have a Sony receiver that's limited to 1080p, I should be able to use the two HDMI outputs on a PS4 or 4K player to send video to the TV and audio to the receiver, right?

Well, this is a bit tricky, but most likely no. At best its HDMI 1.4 on your receiver so the best you will be able to send is 30hz 4k content, and the HDR may or may not work for your br player. I don't know if your ps4 is a pro or not so I won't comment.

I just bought a brand new b7 55 for $1200. Stoked for it to arrive. Found a buyer for my x800d.

If y'all haven't heard of greentoe.com check it out. They are accepting offers for $1199 for lg b7s from an authorized lg reseller. I tried to go for 1100 and 1149 but got an email that they couldn't get anyone to go for that and that my offer would expire at midnight as the reseller they had lined up couldn't gaurantee stock much longer.

Now my lappy and tv will be OLED. Next is my monitor lol.

Out of curiosity where/how did you sell your 800, and for how much?

Any opinion on this Acer 4k HDR ready monitor?
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824011158

I remember somebody mentioning how this is not true HDR and i believe monitor are not as good at upscaling 1080p content to 4k?

Lol I have this monitor and it's awesome. The nits aren't high enough for "true" HDR and that's why people rip on it but I don't need 1000 nits 5 inches away from my face. It's intentional. There are some youtube vids on it. It's a great monitor.

I don`t have a Pro or an XBox X, any opinion on 1080p content on this monitor?

Also would you suggest 32 or 43 inches? If i stay further away with the 43 inches, in that case i guess nits level becomes more relevant?

If your TV and receiver both support ARC, it might be possible.

Probably easier to just do optical out from your TV to the receiver though.

My question would be why are you buying a 4k monitor for 1080p content? Movies? They look fine.

Yes that is last years model, the new models (for 2018) are releasing May 1st this year (so in like a week) and the media embargo for them lifts tomorrow so we'll get details of this years models and pricing.

A good thread to follow for this years tv:
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-l...ries-4k-hdr-roku-tvs-expected-may-1st-15.html

OLED is a type of tv.

In the current tv market the main types of tv's are LED and then OLED, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

With LED tv's they are generally cheaper (because they are easier to make) and also the higher end LED tv's can get BRIGHT, like super-bright, which is good for showing off HDR and really makes it pop when it's being used.

However there are drawbacks to led tv's. The main drawback is what's known as "halo'ing," because of how led tv's work in a dark scene when you have a bright object on screen the tv has to send light to that specific area and this creates a "halo" of light around that object. However there are some ways to make this not as noticeable, such as FALD (Full array local dimming) which basically uses "zones" of leds turning on/off instead of the normal "edge lighting" (which sends light from the edge of the screen to that led). Most higher end led tv's use FALD and the more "zones" they have generally it means smaller halo's but they still aren't nearly as good as OLED's when it comes to true black colors and no halo'ing.

With OLED's they are able to turn on/off EACH led, that means that they are able to produce true blacks (because the led will be off, so no light). This means that night time scenes look simply amazing on an OLED tv generally and with HDR the contract between true black to highlights can look amazing.

The drawback to OLED's is burn in/image retention. Sort of like Plasma tv's if you watch a lot of static content (IE news stations or things with a static image on the screen) this can eventually "burn in" to the tv, however there are ways to combat this with many oled's having a built in cleaner and such to help stop this, and if you constantly vary what you watch and don't watch the same static thing for like hours and hours a day for weeks at a time you should be fine and not have an issue with it.

So basically to sum it up, led tv's - Great if you want a cheaper and "bright" tv and don't mind "halo'ing" when it comes to night scenes in movies/tv, oled tv's - overall the best picture quality but risk of burn in if you watch a lot of static content without changing it up.
Very informative, thanks!
From everything I've read and seen on YouTube absolutley it's worth it when a b7 isn't even more expensive than a high end sony led or even Samsung qled.
Haha, seems like it.

I think I'll look into OLED, but it might be a tad too expensive. We'll see. At the very least, I'll wait until that other new TV comes out.

But if I use two separate HDMI cables for outputting video and audio it wouldn't matter if the receiver could only do 4K 30hz or 1080p or whatever for video, right? The PS4 is a Pro and the player supports Dolby Vision. I'm already able to listen to my receiver audio at the same time as watching 4K movies on another input so what I'm thinking is just having the audio and video playing at once from the TV and the receiver.

My TV (Vizio M65-E0) supports ARC but my receiver (STR-DH800) is pretty old now and does not. I could use optical but the audio wouldn't be as good. If I do have to get a new receiver I assume it would have to support Dolby Vision too.

Yay my apple tv came in! Quick question, is there a way to make the box not do DV for the menus and only kick in during a movie?

Also, with one of my cables, the screen just keeps flashing when I activate DV, but the screen is fine in HDR. Does that cable just suck?

Yes and yes.

Set the Apple TV to SDR 60 Hz, but have it automatically match both frame rate and SDR/HDR.

And get a premium certified HDMI cable.

Thanks! I thought I was going to go blind from those menus.

I thought the consensus was pretty much any 2.0 HDMI cable would work? Doesn't matter, I put the bad one with my Switch lol

Looks like the 6 series is up on Amazon USA

55 in-$649

65 in-$999

Edit- And it looks like you could get the 65 in as soon as tomorrow for a one day shipping fee of $28 lol, or Monday free two day with prime. That's what I'm seeing for checkout. 55 in is showing 5/4 at the earliest.

Waiting for those 6 series reviews to pop up! There is a guy on the AVS forums who said he was going to start posting information/review at 8AM today. He is 15mins late. Maybe it was PST haha.

You can actually set it to just HDR 4K60hz too, if you want the menus to have a little more pop/be shown in HDR.

(i literally just went through this exact scenario last night).

Also, experience so far isn't too bad. haven't played around with much; Netflix works fine. The Apple movie trailers app is horrendous. There's clearly a black level/color space mismatch happening, as all the black bars for trailers are super light grey. Seems like a huge oversight for one of Apple's own apps.

Voice search is very handy.

Ill be interested how the local dimming is handled on the 6 series compared to something like the 900e. I guess its good that Im elite status at BB, so I'll have 45 days to decide ultimately what to go with.

Ugh. Must. Resist. I mean, it would be super stupid of me.....right? Someone tell me it isn't stupid.
Would be kinda stupid, yeah. If it were a 2019 model, not so much. You're gonna want HDMI 2.1 and VRR, but the only difference between the 6 series and your set is slightly more local dimming zones. Everything else is roughly the same. You already have Dolby Vision support, etc.

If it were me, I'd hang on to the cheap P6 and swap it out next year for a real, substantial upgrade.

I guess from what everyone is saying, that I will just save up an extra paycheck for the 65". I just didn't know if 65" was overkill for a bedroom with not much viewing distance.
