I know I'm getting closer to the endgame of Yakuza 0, but I just can't stop bowling. I dunno what it is, but this bowling minigame is addictive
I know the feeling. Except exchange bowling for Mahjong. If a mini game grabs you in the series it never lets go!I know I'm getting closer to the endgame of Yakuza 0, but I just can't stop bowling. I dunno what it is, but this bowling minigame is addictive

I just bought Yakuza 0 on the PSN sale.
Hopefully I become part of the Yakuza community soon.
lol thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Still got about 5 hours it says to download. I just want to play it already. :P
you won't regret getting in on an amazing story.I just bought Yakuza 0 on the PSN sale.

Thank you!Once you try it you will never go back, welcome into the community :D
I'm always excited to see what a potential new fan thinks of the series, enjoy and savour it!
I've played about an hour so far and I'm really liking it. Already very interested in the story. Loving the combat too. I'm a big Sega fan and Shenmue is one of my favourite series so this series is right up my street.
Yes they will and there are some very fun (and addictive) games in there.Only question I have is when do the arcades open up? I tried going into one, but it wouldn't let me in. I'm guessing I need to get further in the story first or something.
That's good to know, was worried I was just missing something really obvious lol, and thank you! ^_^Yes they will and there are some very fun (and addictive) games in there.
During the first chapter of the game (and some other parts in the story) you won't be able to access arcades and other side activities, but they will become available again so don't worry.
And while don't have an official "Welcome to YakuzaEra" gif yet, I wanted to say: Welcome to YakuzaERA!
Thank you for everything.Eyyyy, just wanted to let you guys know I made it over too. (I do the English for this series if you didn't know.) As a personal policy, I'll do my best to stay out of The Discourse™, but admittedly, sometimes I can't resist stepping in if I feel like it's needed or if doing so will help somebody out. As always, you can find me on Twitter if you have any questions I am both allowed to answer and that fit in 140 characters. (The 280 continues to elude me, thankfully.)
And finally, if I've never said it, thanks for being such a great, welcoming community, no matter where you call home. =)
Hahaha, I know that feeling.I may have spent a very long time on the claw machine. It will not best me.
Buying a new console for Yakuza. Respect man o7I hooked up my old PS3 to play Yakuza 4 and 5 then realize that it doesn't connect to the internet anymore. Y4/5 is on my PS+ so that's a no-go. I felt so bad that I decide to buy a new used one. Luckily, I found a slim one for 80 dollars so I guess it ain't too bad. These games better be worth it!
The claw machine was my first real nemesis in the series. Its had just as many refinements over the years as the combat system has - namely making the grabbing physics less janky. Take my word for it, winning anything in Yakuza 1 on the PS2 took more luck than skill... truly horrifying!I may have spent a very long time on the claw machine. It will not best me.
One thing I didn't realise until now was that Yakuza 0 had like a gold filter on everything. Perhaps to signify the Golden Era of the Bubble Period. Quite noticeable since the cabaret club looks quite drab in the footage above.
And that oil baron at the end. He really knows how to party. Hope he shows up properly in some proper sidequest. Would like to meet him.
Sotenbori (Osaka) map in Kiwami 2 has a similar filter as well. It adds a warm atmosphere to the place.
I'd love to have the game on day 1, but there's no way I'm not buying a physical release of this one. Just have to hope Amazon Japan get that game dispatched to me super quick!
I usually get both.
I'm crazy for this series, I prefer to give up another game and purchase 2 copies of Yakuza :P
I don't blame you. I import then grab the game when/if it gets an English release myself. And I'm pretty much ignoring all non Vita purchases for November (well, mainly just because no big games interest me, bar maybe the Switch releases this month). But rather than pay for the game twice in one month, I'll just force myself to wait those extra few days, besides I've got some time booked off a week or so after the game is released so with any luck it'll arrive just as I get a couple of weeks off to play it!
but i'd rather play it than watch someone, it'll make me more jealous watching. lolJoin me, shadow and desmond and let's pee toghether :) iirc, desmond said he was going to make an import OT. Haven't you played the original? If so, I think it's not hard to follow the game. Or korean version? Aren't you a korean speaker?
edit: found a better one.

On Yakuza 0 chapter 13.
is there any reason to hang around Sotenbori now as Kiryu?
Got the pager notification by Oda about Sera having already called and I guess if I go that triggers the mission and then back to Kamurocho.
I know I'll be back eventually in the post game but I don't know if there's anything missable or idk.
Also I guess this is not very far now from the story's ending, kinda, right?
I'm loving the game but seriously there's too much to do and to grind for every combat option although I love it anyway. First time in the series btw.
It took me a long time to beat the story, simply because I'd prefer to go around playing minigames and doing substories inbetween it all.I think I could go bowling for days in Yakuza 0. I'm trying to get on with the story, but I'm getting distracted by everything lol.
Hello everyone! Got into Yakuza a few months ago with 0, and haven't looked back since. It's easily one of the best games I've played in years. The story, combat, music, characters, Kamurocho and Sotenbori being the areas they are, all of it. Above all else, though, I hadn't expected to be enraptured by such a compelling crime narrative. For as long as this series has been a thing, I'd always thought that the primary focus was on beating people up, and having some barely stitched-together cutscenes and story beats to facilitate that type of "mindless" beat-em-up gameplay. Was pleasantly surprised when I couldn't have been more wrong... the drama is thick, guys.
Having said that, I found Kiwami to be a disappointment. I knew going into it that it was a remake of a decade old game that didn't entirely know what it was going to become yet, but the plot is quite thin, and the characters are either boring (Date, Florist, the two host club guys, Yumi), or hollow shells of what they were in 0 (Shimano is a mindless, angry brute despite not being portrayed as such in 0, Nishiki is barely in it except for the new flashback scenes of him they added). You've also got the filler, like helping out Date and the Florist with their kids. I know they're trying to stress the importance of fatherhood for Kiryu and Haruka, but it just breaks the pacing. If anything, going from 0 to Kiwami, you just come to appreciate and respect how much the developers have refined their craft in a decade of making Yakuza games.
Eagerly awaiting the release of Kiwami 2, even though localization is so far away. I just keep watching that trailer and wishing the game was out.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I like Date. Older, badass detective. The purest form of the "cool old guy" trope. It's just that, after the chapter we're discussing, he kind of just awkwardly hangs around in the park, showing up only in cutscenes to talk to that glasses dude. I'm sure his character arc overall has more to it than that, so I hope he's good in Yakuza 2.You raise good points on Kiwami (well, Yakuza 1 in general). I noticed your points far more in my replay, especially coming off of a recent playthrough on 0 its clear how they continued to improve many aspects of the series as time went on. I do like Date though, but I guess that's helped by the fact that he gets to appear in subsequent games to build up his character. The filler chapter (father and children) in 1 always was my least favourite though, just grinds the story to a halt for a chapter... Oh well, at least in Kiwami we get one good side story that makes up for that concept.

Kiwami's voiced substories are pretty solid. I'm glad, since most of the standard ones are unremarkable. I think "The Yakuza's Apprentice" is the only good set of substories I can remember, off the top of my head. Meanwhile, nearly all of 0's are memorably absurd. It's great.
Good to hear about Date! How would you say the 2 storyline compares to 0's, btw? I've heard people refer to either as having the best story in the series.Yeah, Date gets way more/better characterisation in 2 (or, so I remember), he's really good in 6 as well.
Most of the side stories I liked in Kiwami all tie back to 0 in one way or another. It was nice that they tied things together nicely and had tons of nods to 0 from the smallto the more importantshakedown enemy Kiryu meets, reminding him of Mr Shakedown back in the day. The voiced/trophy related stories are also ace, though that's thanks to them just having more effort put into them originally in the first game. The other shakedown stories which were just Kiryu meeting crooked/opportunistic jerks were very one note, but the series against the crew that you bump into cracked me up a bit.Assassin side story that also focuses on Sera's old group from 0
Also, glad to see someone else mention Kano. I loved those side stories, classic Yakuza stuff!

I also caught (and loved) those callbacks to 0! I'm sure there are more here and there, so I'll keep an eye out for them. I've only done about a third of the total substories in Kiwami, I think. My favorite 0 callback by far has been - Majima Everywhere spoilers -I agree with you about the crew you keep bumping into, that was a funny set of encounters as well. Many substories are, as you say, just crooked people you have to chase down to get your yen back. It's poop.Majima's heartfelt reminiscing about his cabaret club days, and his time with the Sunshine crew... while dressed up as a hostess himself, trying to coerce Kiryu into fighting him. Lmfao. Then there's the encounter where he's a bartender explaining about alcohol to Kiryu, which brought back memories of that friendship with the barkeep in Sotenbori. Good stuff.
You did mention Sera, which reminds me of something else I found a tad disappointing about this story, at least initially.Kiryu and Majima are revealed to have a history with him, being instrumental in his ascension to third Tojo Clan chairman, and I liked how cool his character was... but in this one, the poor guy is killed off almost as quickly as Dojima is. At least you get to see his usual stoic, calculating self in the cutscenes with Kazama towards the end.
