Before we worry about Labo selling 400k or 1.5M, we should see if it actually can sell its first shipment in a timely fashion. I expect it to take way longer than GW.

But I wouldn't jump to conclusion before Christmas.

For better or worse Nintendo is held to a different standard than any other publisher.

Its how people can talk about ARMs and Xenoblade 2 being disappointments despite both doing well within their genre.

yeah no that's just desperately trying to spin things negatively
1.5M LTD for Labo would be a great success, no matter how you look at it.

Of course. I am just saying it is insane to downplay 1.5 LTD number if it really happen in Japan there.

You shouldn't reduce it to Nintendo vs the world. I had a different expectations for Labo than most people here (and I still do), that's it and that's perfectly fine.

lolKH3. It's not going to outsell FFXV, time to let that fantasy go.

Expect sales somewhere around (non-FM) KH1 to BBS.

Who said KH3 would outsell FFXV ? You don't need to put words into people's mouth.

Sales "around KH1 to BBS" in Japan would be around 1m LTD and that's what I always supported.

KH1 was around 1.5m LTD in Japan, BBS around 700k if I'm not mistaking. [1.5m + 0.7m]/2 = ~1m.

yeah no that's just desperately trying to spin things negatively

Yeah, sure because I'm some kind of anti-Nintendo evil mastermind. I'm not the one looking desperate here, I don't align my well-being to Labo success or failure like some people here, I just find the discussion interesting (for once). I'll never understand how you can keep getting away with those kind of free statement by the way (you and some others).

Yeah....its ridiculous how the people who call stuff like Labo initially Trash are the ones who always end up with the most unrealistic expectations in terms of success evaluation.

Labo is the first of its kind for Nintendo and on Switch....yet people wanna label everything as a flop or success story as fast as possible. This isnt your regular video game release.

You are mistaken. Non-FM KH1 was around 850k. KH2 is the only singular million seller in the series and that only did 1.1m.

FFXV barely crawled to 1m. KH3 will do worse.

Considering Labo is mostly a stationary "game", I don't think it fits the Japanese market that well, which is focused mostly on handhelds, as we know already.

By literally any objective measure, a (hypothetical) 1.5M selling new IP in Japan is a massive massive success.

Somewhere. I think.
Probably means nothing (and might be old) but while the PQ2 website still mentions 3DS at the bottom, the series website doesn't mention a platform. I expect lots of hearbreak.

Already posted this in the other thread, but that's been listed that way since at least November for some reason. Not listed in the previous versions of the page on wayback machine. Doubt it means much at all.

Wow. Definitely did not predict this type of reception.

I believe they based their expectations on 3DS sales, maybe they expect double-dippers or something.

Sales of last entries of M&L show it will be a long time before Nintendo decides to invest again on a new game.

What will determine when a new M&L is made is how long it takes AlphaDream to get up to speed with HD dev. They're a really small company (38 employees as of 2011... a bit dated, but I'm not under the impression they've massively expanded since then), and needed to outsource the 3D bits of the past few games.

I never called Labo "trash", but I feel you're speaking about me.

I only shared two of my expectations here. 3m lock for MHW in Japan (seems with digital, I was 100% right) and 1m LTD for KH3. I cleared one of them already, against the opinion of 98% of this thread, in what we can call the biggest happening so far in 2018 (MHW being a breakout hit worldwide, which I also predicted on resetera well before the game released). If that's what you call "most unrealistic expectations", you should reconsider your judgement about me. It's not like I never spend a lot of time explaining my reasoning either, even when discussion take a nasty turn and I come across some unwarranted hostility.

I mean what is your expectation for Labo in Japan if 1.5 million lifetime for a new IP is a dissapointment.

Err..in what world is a brand new IP selling 1.5M copies in Japan not impressive or good enough?!?

I think people overlook the fact that Labo is targeted at children and is a mix between a toy and a video-game. It's not your typical video-game new IP. Sure, I don't deny the fact that a new IP breaking 1.5m LTD would be great for a typical video-game, that's pretty much putting words I never said into my mouth. But an inventive toy coming from Nintendo, in Japan, with what I'd consider very good marketing/presentation and an attempt to bring younger audiences to the Switch (the children market) ? I'm sorry if I don't consider 1.5m LTD enough given those points and that's IF the current kits reach this number.

To add something : to me, Labo clearly bears another level of importance for Nintendo when it comes to their strategy for the Switch, than let's say a typical video-game like Kirby or DKTF remaster.

I mean what is your expectation for Labo in Japan if 1.5 million lifetime for a new IP is a dissapointment.

The "New IP" argument isn't mine, to me it isn't much of a factor for reasons I already explained earlier.

Being aimed at kids isn't exactly an advantage in Japan considering its ageing population.

Well i wasnt talking about you in specific...you also arent on my list of users who spread BS or crazy predictions. My post was about the general sentiment from posters who dont believe in a product but still expect that it should sell like crazy just because its Nintendo.

Also even if you had very high expectations for Labo...that would be totally fine with me. My only issue is when users have those high expectations and then try to justify whatever Doomsday Scenario they have figured out for the plattform when said product doesnt meet their prediction.

KH3 will be pushed very hard as the game to get this year for the PS4 - i dont think your prediction is that crazy. KH3 in addition with a price drop for the Holiday seems plausible.

I don't really see KH3 getting to 1m if Final Fantasy can barely get there these days. 700-800k probably more likely.

But hey, DQXI and MHW surpassed my expectations so I could very well be wrong on this, lol.

They have not specifically said that in the press release, however I don't believe Nintendo to be stupid and co-develop an IP that they don't own at least in some part. They had the smarts to do it 22 years ago with Pokemon and there is no reason to think that they would do otherwise in this case.

CyGames is by far the best choice they could have made.

They have five hit games at the moment, and some of them are really huge successes.

Yeah this is what I'd assume.
...
One thing about it being a new IP is I wonder if this does suggest Nintendo has moved on from "mobile as advertisement attitude" towards mobile as full-on second platform.

Or maybe they're planning a Switch game too?

IDK. I've said before that the "mobile as advertisement" approach seems kind of nebulous and makes more sense in theory than it has actually seen practical results.

I think their strategy was a bit misunderstood.

When they first entered this business, they said that they wanted to grow it into a core pillar of their business, but that it would also serve as promotion for their brands while the business segment was still building up.

They also noted this because they explained that games that failed to make money would still help a lot in terms of brand awareness, so that failures to monetize were not pure failures the way they would be for a mobile only company. Animal Crossing is making ho-hum money right now (it's improved quite a bit recently in Japan though with the addition of lootboxes), but it was still giving a ton of people a positive Animal Crossing experience, so even if it never made money, it would have been a good advertising tool.

You don't partner with CyGames though for any purpose beyond trying to shoot for the stars revenue wise, especially since CyGames will be taking a very healthy cut of the revenue, so I think they're more open to doing a new IP there.

Yeah. That seems fair.

As I understand it: it could be just that, yes, they want this synergy thing but also that their first efforts seemed a little less than "gunning for the top" because they were a) dreaming of changing mobile to fit their value philosophies from the console space and also because b) they didn't have "mobile knowledge," rather than just "Nintendo is explicitly not a mobile company first." The latter could be construed from a) and b) and (some of) their statements, but it wasn't necessarily how they saw their involvement in mobile.

I think either way it is a case of "mobile changed Nintendo."

If Labo can push 1.5M in Japan then Nintendo has struck a goldmine.

I don't believe it can do anywhere close to that though.

So Bayo 2 switch is at 370 K on a period of 9 weeks. ( until 20 april )
It is sell through + digital, so if we count shipment + digital, we can add 50-100 K that are on retailers shelves.
So more than 400K shipment + digital.
It outsells Wii U version on the same period.

Other info, Stardew valley is near to reach one million seller. ( it is heading for global sales of one million units )

Didnt the new Boss say he wants to make Mobile a Revenue Pillar ?

You cant do that by using mobile as advertisement, but you could do it by developing games with the maker of Gran(prints money) blue fantasy.

So with Bayonetta 2 beeing at 700k units when combining WiiU and Switch versions, and knowing that the game didn't price collapse (on either systems) can we still say now that the move from PS360 to the WiiU/Switch was a wrong call in the end?

The franchise hasn't really seen a decline imho and the game will keep selling on Switch for quite a while judging by how long tailed Nintendo games are

I'm expecting a spike when more news about Bayo 3 comes around
