Smash is going to be their Super Mario Odyssey/Zelda BOTW of this year, I hope we have a nice Smash themed E3 booth

so when are they going to announce Q1 2019 games? (assuming MP4, Bayo3, and pokemon aren't that)

Sept/October Direct seems late unless it's ports.

So I think we'll see 2019 games anyway

Pokemon is probably coming this year.

But anyway, they announced Smash 5 six months before release and will have shown 0 gameplay footage up until three months before release so I don't know if they care at this point...

No way they don't tease Metroid Prime 4, that only 2018 warning is just to prevent people from overwishing and getting disappointed

Am I the only one extremely pessimistic about this year's E3?

Fire Emblem, Smash, maybe Animal Crossing... And that's it.

Think about it this way, they wouldn't show only 2018 games if they didn't think they had a lot of good games to show. They're forecasting 20M Switches sold with 100M units of software, there's gotta be something exciting.

Yeah. I think the reason Nintendo is overdoing it this year is because we literally no nothing about the second half of 2018 in terms of games and gameplay. There is a lot to show for 2018 so expect E3 floor show to be all 2018 games. We should get one or two 2019 games. Last year we got 4, but we had seen some 2017 second half games.

Yeah it's annoying that they're still trolling with the Smash wording.

We know it's a new game ffs

technically it's possible to show their Q1 2019 in sept/oct with little time.

But it depends on the games.

Smash has great hype cycles, but it doesn't necessarily need one. Because it's Smash Bros.
Plus it's getting a huge E3 blowout.

If a more experimental game is coming out Q1 2019, waiting till fall would be too late to announce it.
For instance, octopath has had an appropriate cycle. Announcement, Trailers, Demo, Feedback, Character reveals, release date.

if octopath was announced 6 months before release that would be poor marketing imo.

Makes sense, but I think large part of that will be due to Labo frenzy over the holidays

Smash
Minit
More Mario DLC
Mario Tennis
Octopath Traveler
Mega Man 11
Yoshi
More Labo
Fortnite
Bayo 3
NSMB+
Wolf 2
GTA5
Dreamcast Collection
Hallow Knight
Wait until Sega releasing all their initial Sega Ages titles.
And I like the other games you listed. Enough fun for me in 2018. Bayonetta 3 probably won't be this year though.

Last year's press release:

Nintendo's E3 activities kick off Tuesday, June 13, at 9 a.m. PT with its Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation. Available to view live at http://e3.nintendo.com, this presentation will offer more details about Super Mario Odyssey and other Nintendo Switch games, with a focus on games launching in 2017.

Now compare that to today's press release:

As in recent years, Nintendo will focus its E3 activities on games coming soon, with a special spotlight given to a key headlining title: the recently announced Super Smash Bros.game coming to the Nintendo Switch system this year. Games launching beyond 2018 will be featured at a later date.

Not gonna lie. That wording stuck out to me as well. Are people going to riot if it's a Wii U port?

Are they going to focus an entire presentation and tournament on just a Wii U port?

Realistically, I expect it to have the same amount of characters and stages as a new game, but the visuals might end up being super similar to the Wii U (which is why they want to avoid calling it not a port).

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that there will be zero Labo stuff at E3.

Of course there won't be any Labo at e3, but that poster meant that they thought the 20m sales projection could be heavily based on Labo.

I'm happy with "at a later date" tbh, it just means there'll be two E3s this year babeeeh

Spoilers if they don't show any 2019 games at e3.

They'll have a September 2018 Direct which shows Q1 2019 titles.

They'll have a January 2019 Direct which shows Q2 2019 titles.

I don't think they'll show all games at once.

Yeah, I noticed the different wording. Typically they do say "focusing on" and they almost always talk beyond 2018. That's what I was expecting going into this, but now with this new wording it makes me think... maybe they won't show 2019 stuff? Who knows. Thankfully, I think (maybe I just hope) they have enough for the second half of 2018 to fill it out.

Featured games mean playable games to me or games extensively shown.

Doesn't mean we won't get some teasers for a couple things coming later.

I can't wait to see the disappointment in this board when Nintendo announces RPG-less Mario Golf, Mario Party with a car and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.

I'm with you on that.

The Labo argument I've made would be to explain the 20m for this fiscal year.

But then what about the other half of that argument, that it would make no sense to hold back showing 2019 titles if they didn't think they had enough exciting stuff for 2018?
