People have been saying that entering your passcode is way better for faceID rather than adjusting your face since it'll add it to the data set. I need to start doing that.

I can confirm this totally works. When I first got the phone I probably had about a 60% accuracy rate, now I'm up to 99% through constant training.

Basically if the facial recognition hits a certain percentage of a match (I'm going to arbitrarily say 80%) but it's not high enough to unlock, when you enter your passcode it'll save the data that was "off" and add it to the existing information. So it'll constantly train.

This also means that if you give your passcode to a SO and it fails on their face as they put it in, it won't add some of their face data to yours, since it didn't meet that minimum threshold

I'm trying to sell my old iPhone 6 phones that were on Verizon. Do I need to call Verizon to unlock it or anything?

had my first problem today. kid was watching yt kids videos and the screen would not swipe. touch screen itself was fine, just no gestures worked at all. that means i couldn't turn it off. Had to do a hard reset, which i had to google to find out how. you press volume up, down quickly then hold side button until you see the apple logo.

I've had to deal with something similar twice on my 8+ (iirc few others on the old board as well) but haven't encountered it since updating to 11.1. Basically springboard just died but button functions etc kept working, super weird

Thanks guys! Read through the t&c's. Seems like you cancel whenever and it's pro rated to usage including any claims so I'll keep it for now.

Squaretrade seems like a good deal to me. 120$ for 2 years and 99$ deductible or 25$ deductible for in home glass replacement. Repairs are also done through Apple stores so I see no downside

Anybody have a reason to go for AC rather than Square?

My Evernote is filled with thousands of notes and the iPhone X deals with it as fast as my PC. This is amazing for me as I use it all the time.

I could be mistaken but isn't there a $69 a year charge on top of the initial $120 making it only $9 less than AppleCare?

Hitting me really hard today the not getting 256GB remorse (mostly because of the camera). It wouldn't even be that more expensive per month. On the other hand I have 74GB free on my 128GB 6s+, have iCloud storage, and I'd have to wait one more month for the phone at least.

What do?

I wouldn't get the 64GB. Got a 256GB X coming from a 128GB 7 (where I barely managed to scratch 55GB of usage) and it's just not worth it downgrading to 64GB.
The content on your phone is only going to grow (apps get bigger due to highres assets, music library grows if you don't want to stream 247, photo library grows with 4k60fps videos etc being possible now).

Half a decade ago we were content with 16/32GB, sounds impossible nowadays with the system alone locking away 10+GB on my X. I think 64GB will no longer cut it without heavy optimization and cloud storage usage (stream music, offload apps and photos etc).

Better safe than sorry. Seen loads of people having buyers remorse over their 64GB X. It's only shy of 200 bucks more, not like it makes that much of a difference. The delivery delay in your case is annoying though...

Mine implied I didn't need to reset and repair, but it didn't work properly and I ended up having to do it. I think the design is that it just works.
Apple Watch content is automatically backed up on your paired phone upon unpairing it. You can then, afaik, restore it on your new phone by using the phones iCloud backup. I don't know if the pairing process is directly looking up a potential Watch backup in iCloud (I don't think so cause backups are encrypted).

Here's what I did:
- Unpair my Watch (it backed up to my old phone)
- Got an iCloud backup from my old phone
- Restored said backup on the X
- Paired the Watch with the X, it presents you backups for your Watch

I'm going to order a 256GB when my 64GB is so near :(

Just feel like using the 64GB and sell it when the 256 comes...

No, it's $69 if you keep the plan for a third year. You can buy three years of protection for $159 and cancel anytime for a pro-rata refund or transfer the warranty to the next iPhone.

The biggest difference is square trade charges a $99 deductible for screen repairs at the apple store vs $29 for the apple care.

the Saddle brown leather case is beautiful and goes perfectly with the black front of the phone. But it is *soo* slippery - more slippery than the caudabe lucid clear or the naked phone.

I'm also surprised how well the phone suits opaque cases - the red spigen thin fit looks great too. But then I think about all that lovely stainless steel being covered up, and the silver back..

The phone also looks amazing in a dark room. When the auto brightness dims down the screen is amazing - just looks like a plastic dummy phone in a shop - no glow from the backlight (because duh)

I have 200 apps and about 5000 photos on my phone, with 26.5GB of 64GB used. Granted most of those photos will be offloaded to iCloud, and I have no music on the phone (just about 600MB of podcasts and growing)

Just for context in case you don't know if you can live with 64GB

iCloud Photo Library made this an easy choice for me. My 128GB 7 Plus only got up to about 20GB used and with over 10,000 Photos because of iCloud

Notch is fine. It's what you lose because of the notch that annoys me. Gotta reach for the hard to reach control center to see Bluetooth battery and battery %. They need to offer some settings for what to show up there.

I'm more irritated by the dumb nav bar. Let me turn it off apple!

It also seemed like an easy choice to me, but with only 10GB short of 64 in my 128GB 6s+, and with an amazing camera at the disposal, I feel like they will run me short over the at least couple of years I plan to keep the phone. I also use iCloud Photos and Apple Music. And of course, I can keep just emptying the fridge and cleaning house from time to time.

On the other hand, a staggering 25+ GB in my phone are currently being taken by "system", wtf.

For clarity, I only keep phones for 1 year so less stuff builds up I guess

I actually love the notch when the apps are optimized for it, but do agree with hard to reach control center and bluetooth battery %.

Do people really need 5000 photos on there phone? I offload mine to amazon photos

Now we've had some days with our phones, what does everybody think? Are you liking it more or less now that the first day ecitement is gone?

Personally I'm loving it more. The screen looks spectacular and the True Tone looks great now (I hated it at first). FaceID works great and the form factor is so much easier to hold and carry vs the Plus. The notch is a complete non factor.

I was pretty hot and cold on this phone since the press conference but I'm loving it. Can't wait to see how they improve things in the next few years.

I think there's no denying it's the best iPhone ever. The hardware, screen, Face ID, camera features, etc. All a leap we've been waiting for since iPhone 6 last updated the look.

I've been waiting for my screen protector to show up and I'm having thoughts of not using it at this point. Ugh.

So I was curious and I wanted to know which camera is which in the X. So when I have the app set to 1x zoom and I cover the camera on the top I just get a black screen. Which is obviously normal. Then I thought if I set the zoom to 2x the camera must be black if I cover up the one on the bottom right? So I covered the on on the bottom and I still see an image and it only turns black of I cover up the on on the top. Is 2x zoom still just digital? I thought at 2x it used the other lens.

Figured I'll ask here since this seems to be the only active iphone thread. Does anyone have a clue why transit/transport doesn't work at all? I get these errors in Maps and Workflow:

Maps:
Transit Directions Not Available
Transit directions between these locations are not available in Maps.

Workflow:
A route could not be determined between these locations.
Directions not available.

I'm on a 6s with ios 11.

Workflow has been updated for the iPhone X, this includes easy sharing of animojis such as converting to Gif.

Agreed - not only is this the best iPhone ever (it would have been alarming news if it wasn't), it is the best upgrade since 3G -> 4.

Recovering the Home button screen real estate and getting a superior software implementation and friendlier overall form factor in exchange makes this phone.

Hey guys! I've been killing myself over this but if anyone can help me out or has more knowledge, that would be great.

My iPhone X, in India isn't showing My Number in the Settings - Phone options. It says "Unknown" and because of that my iMessage/FaceTime with my cell phone number isn't working either. I tried resetting the phone, ejecting the sim and re do it, DFU mode, but none of that works. Yes my time is set to automatic as well.

However, when I tried it with a different SIM from a different network, it registered that number right away and everything seems to work as it is supposed to, however, when my switch back to my personal SIM who happens to be a different provider, it's not working.

Any clue what's going on here?

Hmm. When I was setting up my phone it actually asked me for my number.

I think Face ID is interchangeable with Touch ID now, even with apps that haven't been updated, I don't think Chase changed anything because they should have changed the UI as well I'm one update.

nah, I have chase too and they definitely updated it (to add logos etc. for face id per the patch notes)

its pretty common for developers to do this with new screen sizes though. I have apps that still haven't updated for the 6+ despite weekly app updates
