To cut through some of the hyperbole, a normal user on AVS that got a non-review unit today, said it's good and slightly better than the 2017 set, but nowhere near an OLED...so take the one review as just that (small sample size)

Sorry, yeah I thought the hyperbole was crystal clear but relevant. It nearly addressed the person whom I quoted word for word.

Hyperbole aside, that reviewer/editor is much more qualified than myself and many other enthusiasts but his comment was fairly subjective.

Ughhh, I have problems. I want to buy this, just to check out, do some tests etc. Even though I already have a B7 lol.

I don't think I could do a good enough analysis with just Dispcal and a coloromiter though. I have an Xrite colorimeter and that's it. Wish I had some big boy tools lol.

I still have a Panasonic VT60 plasma as my primary TV. Wanted an oled but this seems great and infinitely more affordable. Would it be a good upgrade?

Absolutely. Plasmas, even the best ones, are getting pretty dated now. Lower color bit depth, and not a wide color gammuy. In addition to their larger bezels, weight etc. Obviously HDR also plays a part. You lose some contrast, but I don't think so much so that the trade off isn't worth it.

I just realized that in buying this from best buy, we don't get voice control. I do know that my girlfriend would use voice control and appreciate it however... is it possible to buy a third party remote that has the voice features?

If they've improved upon last year p607/605 (I own one) this is without a doubt the best budget TV to purchase.

Anyone know the width of the stands for the 65"?Measuring my p605 I have 10 inches to play with and hope it fits on my current stand.

How are people getting this so soon? Bestbuy is saying early June for delivery and late May for in store pick up! The 65" is out of stock on Amazon as well.

I have a Best Buy gift card from last christmas that I'm planning to use for a TV upgrade. My 47" LG HDTV has some burnt out backlights, so it's a good excuse to hop into 4K.

Is it reasonable to expect a decent Black Friday sale on these sets, or is it not worth waiting until then?

Unlikely, as the presumably-already-low margins on these sets don't make them the type of thing we normally see for BF deals. I don't recall any notable deals happening for the prior generation either.

Small world, my 47" lg HDTV has burnt out backlights. Just happend a week or so ago.

I would not expect a deal on these TVs, they are already pretty threshold on price.

Anyway, anyone know good swivel stands for 55" tcl?

I can't stand the ugly stock stands TVs have now a days.

Good to know. Probably won't bother waiting, then. Thanks.

It's super lame. Mine is only a few years old and the lights started burning out last November or so. It's the first LG set I've owned, so it makes me wary of them now, even though I know it's probably irrational.

I'm excited to pick my 55" up from Best Buy on Sunday. Gonna be a big upgrade going from a 42" 1080p tv.

Really want to see if this is a worthwhile upgrade over last years model s9 I'm hoping Rtings reviews it soon. So I can decide if I'll pickup the 607 for a little discount or get this years model...

55-incher coming tomorrow. Super stoked. I bought the 2017 model last week and returned it the day the new models came out lol.

there were basically zero sales on the 2017 model outside of a $50 off sale from Amazon at launch which put it in line with the Best Buy pricing.

I mean it really doesn't matter until the sets can do 4k 120hz if we're being honest. I have an LG B7 and I never use the 1080/120hz mode.

Yep. I was all for 120Hz at first, but then I realized it's only 1080p and doesn't really benefit anything else other than gaming on a PC.

Yep, absolutely! Everything I've been reading so far is about the 65-incher; not a lot of info out there on the smaller model.

Thank you so much!

I wonder what the deal is with the 65" at Best Buy. I ordered mine within 20 minutes of it being available and am sitting at a May 9th store pickup, where the 55" is available May 1st and was listed 12 hours later.

I don't get the use case here honestly. Why would you have such a huge TV and not have a proper receiver connected to it?

Wait a minute... WHAT?

Maybe this is just me being a third-world Brazilian, but man... 55" is damn big to me :P
It's not just you. I think anyone not living in a crazy big American house feels the same. Any bigger than 50 and I'd have to come up with a crazy door-hinged shelf or something. So I wonder when they'll make 49-50 inch OLEDs.

You make a good point there. I actually just realized that I can't even accommodate a TV bigger than 46" or so in my room without killing the space for everything else :S. For starters, mine sits on a corner, and I'd have to rethink the room layout to move it into a full wall for it to work.

Out of curiosity, how do Japanese folks cope with this? On average, they have much smaller houses last I heard, so I assume they are not very fond of these new "standard" sizes (50" and higher).

Having said that, I have to do something about my set soon probably... It's an extremely old Samsung LED that is not even classified as "Smart". For the time, it was a decent TV but it's showing its age now :(

Wish these sets were more easily available outside the US. Importing stuff this big is obviously prohibitive and creates some weird problems like digital TV standards incompatibly.

so I just got mine. If anyone has questions I can try to answer them, but I am not the most adept at tv stuff (I should be able to confirm stuff about the build or options, bug I don't have any equipment to make any measurements). I got the 55" model, and this is my first true 4k hdr screen, so take that into consideration when I give my opinions (I had a 4k tv that could do hdr before, but it was a lower end Samsung that only went up to 400 nits or so).

one thing I can say for people concerned about it, you have to install the feet facing towards the outside edges of the tv. There are little nubs that lock them in that orientation. If you want to cut the plastic on the tv or modify the legs with some metal work you could get them to slot in the other way id imagine, but out of the box you cannot.

Lastly, all I have access to are the tv apps and my xbox one x and I do not own any 4k blu rays for what it is worth.

I have the s409 which I cannot get to hide the last white Phoenix in HDR. If you have gears of war 4 (or game pass) can you see if it's actually possible to get the three white items to be properly calibrated?

Can someone give the measurement in inches on the width of the "feet" on the 55inch? Wondering if I have enough room on my stand.

thanks.

Ok, I have Gears and I am in the menu right now. I don't know if I am doing something wrong, but I have found the Gears 4 hdr calibration to be a little screwy (I can never get something that can clearly be stated as the left most one being invisible, the middle one barely visible, and the last one visible). I can get it so the first is not visible and the latter two look approximately equal. If I push out the slider I can make all three invisible but the latter two seem to go invisible at around the same point.

I do not have a measuring tape, but using a dollar bill and math it is about 48" from the outmost edge of one of the feet to the outmost edge of the other. This seems inline with the stated width on tcl's website (48.5")

I mean, it's true that the borders of the screen are very thin nowadays, so 49 inch is the old 46. And there are plenty high end, 49 inch TVs like the Sony 9000 series and even higher. But with the OLEDs, it's only 55 and up. I imagine (And hope) that as they get cheaper to manufacture the tech will trickle down. Because for me, 49-50 inch is the sweetspot, and I mean, houses aren't getting any bigger, there will always have to be smaller TVs.
