How high is your reward level when you break the horns in one hunt?

I have had some hunts where we managed to chip the horns at pursuit level 1, but that was in the fourth area and at that point you still have a long way to go before you're able to break them. I'm honestly surprised it's even possible in the first place without a coordinated effort and highly aggressive builds.
I want to say the reward got to like 5. It definitely wasn't worth it. I mean, it felt super good, but still.

These guys had their shit on lock, so it definitely takes good play. The HBG guy got two stuns with sticky ammo and I hit it with all 3 rocks in the starting area.

Stuns definitely help a lot in the last phase. Whenever a siege fails on, say, pursuit level 3 or even 4, it's usually because the group can't get any stuns in. It's just too difficult to reliably hit the horns for big damage without them since Kulve runs all over the place.

It's funny, but I noticed people (myself included) have also found a renewed appreciation for the cannons in the first area. When the event started, everyone used them willy-nilly and without too much effect. Then you saw people ignore them entirely in favor of the falling rocks and attacking the mantle with their weapons. And now you see people spread out as soon as the hunt starts, everyone making sure multiple cannons are loaded for whenever Kulve passes by.

And I mean, it is great damage. If you're running 2 levels of Heavy Artillery, 5 cannon balls deal (5 * 480 =) 2400 damage.

I need to lighten up on random players. Had a session with some where we beat Kulve on Pursuit 1 in 15:30. Was awesome.

Still haven't gotten a fucking gem from it though.
Are you carving the gold horn plating that drops? Not the horns at the end but when you break the armour and she drops a gold chunk that you can carve. I did 6 runs today and twice I got a gem from carving that drop.

Always. I often carve that immediately after it breaks off (which I'm sure my teammates are thrilled about). Still nothing.

Damn, well you just gotta hope for some luck.
I wanted the armour set and needed drops so everytime I saw something shiny on the floor I stopped attacking to go round picking up the material, there was a whole bunch of drops and everyone had left the area to go fight Kulve during the last phase and I was there spending like a minute or so picking up everything making sure I didn't miss anything XD.

I do the same thing. I usually end up with 30+ shinies picked up at the end, but it's always crap.

And a lot of time is wasted on cycling between slinger ammo that gets thrown right on top of Kulve materials. Why Capcom hasn't fixed that, I have no idea.

It's an armor set and a LS you get through a Japan-exclusive event quest. The quest is tied to promotional codes handed out at Universal Studios Japan and only Japanese players (or at least, people with a Japanese PS4) can redeem the code. The only way western players can get the gear is through searching for a Japanese player hosting the quest. You can't search for the quest itself, but you can search for the monsters involved in the hunt (Dodogama and Azure Rathalos) and hope you get lucky.

I haven't tried it myself though since it sounds like a major hassle. And it's expected the quest will eventually come to the west anyway. Could be next month, or maybe in June.
Oh wow sounds like a pain. OK I'll ignore this for now then. Thanks for the info!

Just to correct this, you have to search for Dodogama not Azure Rath ( Event quest, 7 stars, rewards on, language any, Dodogama) as it's a multi monster hunt and with those, you have to always search for the first monster listed in the hunt. Furthermore, to craft the Sword and Palico gear, you also need to do part one of the USJ quest, which was hunting 3 Great Jargasses. Part 2 that was just released will let you craft the armor set (whi is and looks amazing) and upgrade the sword from part 1 to high rank.

Well, I guess I'm burnt out on the KT Siege.

Got all the mats (and then some) for the Armor and got a ton of Weapons (including the Blos SA I've been wanting).

At least one good thing about the Weapons is that it's finally getting me to experiment with other Weapons I'm not familiar with like Charge Blade and Gunlance.
(Picked up some good CBs and GLs; probably some good LBG/HBGs too, but I know nothing about Bowguns.)

Listen, I'm pretty sure what you really want is to pick up that slinger ammo that you just put down. You wouldn't have put it down if it wasn't foremost on your mind. #JapaneseUX

Just beat the big-ass blue dragon. Am I at the end of the game for real now? The fight was really easy at the beginning but just got progressively more annoying as it went.

He's the last boss. The fight is super boring no matter how many people you're playing with. The issue being that it's not fun to run to the other side of the map every 10 seconds just to get a few shots cause he covers so much distance every time he moves, and he moves constantly.
Unfortunately, if you want to get cool weapons, you're gonna be seeing that quest a lot cause there's some great weapons using his pieces

It won't happen, but I wouldn't mind if Capcom surprises us and makes the Kulve siege a permanent feature, albeit with a reduced amount of weapon rewards during periods when it's not a featured event.
I think the best option is to make it like Splatoon 2's Salmon Run, where the mode is not always available. Just have it available maybe every few days for 24 hours or so

Ok, so heading towards the elder dragons now (investigate 3 areas). Game's been a lot of fun so far.
But Nergigante is f'ing annoying (and I want the weapon).

What's the best way to avoid that dive bomb?
Most times I don't get hit, but there's some weird hitboxes sometimes (I was under him, technically he didn't hit me but it still one shot me).

Can you survive the dive bomb at a certain defense threshold?

Superman dive his dive bomb. You do this by sheathing your weapon, running in the opposite direction the monster is in, and then hitting the roll button. It has invincibility all the way down and most of the way when you stand up

You definitely can at higher defence values and if you slot for vitality (you can double your base health), but try to get used to avoiding it or go in with a weapon that can block/negate the damage.

I'll farm some armor upgrades first regardless, some pieces still have 8 upgrades left.
Thanks for the tip on health too!

Will try to keep evading, but good to see it's survivable if I mess up under certain circumstances.

Finally, FINALLY got that lv 4 Long Shelling gunlance from Kulve to replace the Zorah one. I was about to give to up. So many hours dumped into this one guy. But it was with it. Can augment both a slot and health steal into it which automatically made it worth it. Much longer sharpness bar too for spamming charged shots before a sharpen. Really happy I finally got it.

My search for a nice sword and shield from the siege seems to be coming up blank. However, looking through other stuff I do have this:

DDezS6F.png

It seems pretty decent stat-wise from what I can tell. It looks really nice too:
QvRwzml.png

So I decided to take this forward as my melee option for now and it's a lot of fun. Haven't tried using it against anything truly scary but building up to that.

On a separate note: I wish the online for this game wasn't so borked. When I search SOS investigations I get basically nothing coming up. Yet, when I post a tempered investigation of my own it fills up instantly so people are definitely doing them. I don't believe out of all the millions playing this game there is no one doing tempered investigation when I search. Also what seems to be happening more often now is failure to join the quest and that awful jarring PSN message. Don't know if it's just me but no other online game has these kinds of issues.

Is there an HR threshold that I need to hit to be able to get all these Jewels that I see people using in their end-game builds? Like Handicraft or Elementless? Or is it all RNG?

I'm HR 33 I think, and I know that people who are much higher than me can still be chasing jewels like Attack ones but all I seem to be getting are defensive jewels like Elemental Res or Botanist or stuff like that.

You will be chasing that Attack jewel until the end of time, friend. Probably the rarest decoration in the game. The one they give you in the story is the only one I have and I'm nearing 400 hours (fuck). It's all RNG tho so you never know. Make sure your fighting tempered monsters (you're above HR30 so T2's) for the best shot at them and meld your trash decos when you have enough.

HR212 and no handicraft gem FYI, so as random as can be! I don't know if it's changed recently, but T2 should give you the best chance of the best decorations. You should have access to those now.

Competition is too fierce this year. It won't win.
Even if the competition wasn't as tough, I've seen too many comments from reviewers complaining about playing with other people online. I think a lot of reviewers are going to look at stuff like the cutscene requirement and hold it back for that.

Yea, people got a lot of gripes about the online (me included). It's still a frontrunner for me depending on whether I get burned out but it's def gonna be in my top games list this year. About 300+ hours now.

Yeah... I was going into this year thinking no way something is going to top World for me this year. But then Celeste came out of nowhere and blew me away. I still like world over GoW though. Damn this year is already packed and it's only April...

On topic, I did a run of the DMC quest. Pretty fun quest! super sayian Teo is scary...

Finally caught this guy:

jeepers6ypuv.jpg

I encountered it during the first night, when I was exploring the level solo, but I didn't catch it since I thought it was common anyway. Not the case it turned out. Kept an eye on it ever since, but I only managed to spot one today. Dropped everything I was doing so I could finally catch it, haha.

If anyone is looking for it, I've seen it twice near the cannon closest to the camp, the one that is aimed at the obstruction immediately in front of it.

2017-2018 has been an insane run of top tier gaming.

The hits just keep on coming with no end in sight

GOTY discussions are gonna be brutal. I think If I was to just give an award for sheer playtime and enjoyment though... MHW has it hands down.

MHW is definitely my GOTY so far. But the only other games from 2018 I played so far are Dragon Ball FighterZ and Street Fighter V, so that might not say a lot. The former was good, but not something that really swept me off my feet. The latter was a disappointment. So yeah.

I can't really think of any upcoming games that could threaten MHW for me either. SMT Strange Journey Redux comes out in a few weeks, but I don't expect it to claim 350 hours of my life as MHW did so far.

God of War is the first real challenger as far as I can tell

We still have tentpoles like RDR2 this year right?

and a few others as well for 2018.

I still think MHW is a damn solid contender for many awards but it will be interesting to see if it gets beyond just a GOTY nomination

MHW has it over God of War for me thus far, but I'm not sure it'll be my ultimate GotY.

A year with a new Rockstar release is automatically tough year to win. When we consider that Bethesda and From Software both have games that may arrive before the end of the year, 2018's deliberations are going to be brutal.

MHW is the perfect loot game, but it wouldn't have been GOTY unless it was released in the launch year window.

2018 - GoW, RDR2, Spiderman
2017 - BotW
2016 - Overwatch
2015 - Witcher 3
2014 - DA:I (launch year LUL)

I forgot about Spiderman too... Maybe if they had this crazy G rank expansion ready to go before the end of the year....

I got that really good Kulve Taroth Lightning Lance (the one with 600 Lightning) as I'm aware, this thing is pretty good against the first phases of Kulve due to the Lance Run move. What sort of armours skills should I want for this then? Have to have Free Elem due to the weapon, otherwise it's free range.

Definitely want to use Thn Attack +5 and also look into working in Critical element (Rathalos 2 piece bonus). Only consider the 2nd part if you can stack crit high enough, otherwise just general damage skills work well.
