I swear it was 50% only a few days ago.
It was.

This is how Kickstarters almost always go:

1) Project gets a big boost in the first week,

2) Project very slowly gets more pledges over the next few weeks, far less than in the beginning,

3) if the project is at 50-60% by the last week, the project gets a huge wave of new backers from people who were initially hesitant but ultimately want the project to succeed.

I've seen this time and time again and I had a strong feeling it would happen this time despite seeing a bunch of people declare it was boned. I'm happy to see it looks like it's getting to the goal. Swery deserves it.

E: Also, I said this earlier in the thread, but Kicktraq is garbo. Kickstarter projects almost never have a steady stream of backers, it's always in spurts like this.

I think it's not just the natural cause of things, I think the prototype and some things laid out have been able to help it, I honestly believe if they hadn't done that we'd be far behind where we are right now. The prototype allowed an easy way for several Swery fans with a voice to make a video or coverage to pass along the Kickstarter to others. Every big boost in the last week can be attributed to a certain voice trying to spread it, IE when Jim Sterling made a video there was a boost, and yesterdays boost happened after Mega64 and Super Best Friends both made a video on the Good Life. Exposure is the biggest thing a Kickstarter needs, without eyes and interested people being aware it exists then it won't pass through, and I think Good Life was dangerously close to not making it. I do think they made some wise decisions to save for the back-end of the Kickstarter with the prototype to allow fans to spread it a bit, and the Mega64 videos I think are a collaboration, which was also a smart move.

It still runs the risk of not making it, but I think they chose some wise things for the last week outside of the natural bump it would obtain naturally. I don't think the natural 'final days boost' would've helped it where it was originally, but I think the increased exposure of different faucets is helping it out, which isn't just by chance as they've Swery and his studio have been playing a few cards in the last week to help increase exposure.

Not just the last week, but the actual key being the last 48 hours. If you're following a game, KS will notify you 48h before its campaign ends just so that you can decide if you fund it or not. Just because of those last two days, I'm pretty sure that the game will end up being funded.

To add to that, the KS is a little atypical in general in that most of the diehard crowd already (i.e. from the original Fig campaign and elsewhere) knew very well in advance when it was going to happen. The start dash for this campaign was a lot more pronounced (literally in the first few hours) and the flatline-taper-off similarly a lot more pronounced (literally from day 2) so while many factors applicable to Kickstarter campaigns, such as the 48h notification boost sorta still apply, it wouldn't be wise to bank on that at all.

Can't believe this might actually make it. I'm nervous af
I'm in the same boat. As someone who REALLY wants this to exist and let Swery (and the Panzer Dragoon guy) do what they want, it's just at the point it's not set entirely in stone yet but it looks like it might very well make it. It still is $80,000 short but due to a few things falling into place it's made leaps and bounds in the last few days. If they can keep that up for the last few days... I think it'll make it honestly, but it's not over until it's done.

I really need another Swery small town game in my life, that's all I know.

I do think they've been much smarter about this campaign and they seem to have genuinely learned lessons from the Fig campaign. I can't say for sure if that stuff helped push the needle in their favor or not. I'm just saying the formula of "30-35% first week -> 50% over 4 weeks -> just barely hitting goal at the end of the last week" is pretty common and why I honestly felt it had a decent chance of making it even when things looked sorta dire a couple weeks ago.

I wish there was a cheaper option to get a physical PS4 copy. I'd go for that. It looks like it's going to be close.

71 hours left and around $66,000 more to go.

I think it's going to make it, but -crosses fingers-.

Played the demo a couple days back, and wow... it really doesn't do the game any favors at all. Ridiculously verbose, redundant, unskippable conversations; carbon-copied "take a picture" quests (that don't even work, but that I can chalk up to being a demo)... I was far more excited about the game before playing it. :/

It was thrown together, I do admit one or two aspects grew on me as I got more into it and the demo's ending bit, but I do think it wasn't the best look, given I also understand this is a very early no-budget prototype for a game that's two years or so out. I've played some Kickstarter demos before, and believe me that's not even close to the worst one. Kickstarter demos are hard to do because you need the money and time to make the game, and a demo to put together, especially for an open ended game like this, is hard as most of the core game mechanics, systems, polish, are not in place yet, so they have to sorta' scrap together some bits to make something work. It's not representative of the final game, but it's not a good showing I would agree.

But I think it was wise they did it all the same, as it did manage to allow several people who have an audience to spread the word on the game.

It's a prototype, dude. They threw it together solely to try to spur pledges. It's amazing that it even booted.

I dunno. If I was a developer in this project, I'd rather there was no demo than one like this; I thought their trailer was convincing enough. But perhaps I'm wrong and I'm underestimating the amount of people who simply won't back anything without having player anything, even something like this demo.

At the very least I really hope dialogue isn't representative of the final game because man, it went on an on in circles...

Frankly if "it's amazing it even booted" is your baseline for judging a prototype, I think it's time to consider that your opinion may not be in line with most people's.
He did not intend to release it until people expressed interest in trying it out.

It was a prototype tech demo to demonstrate the atmosphere and the graphic style we should expect to get in the full game.

I don't get how videos fail to convey "graphic style" already, but in any case this seems like a clear case of "shouldn't have listened to the fans". People asking for something doesn't automatically make it a good idea.

Hell, this would have been a golden opportunity to make the prototype backer only tp entice more people to back it. I get that the intention was for people that hadn't donated yet to do so after trying the demo, but I really have to wonder how many people will be more convinced after playing this slice.

Anyhow, I've given my opinion. I, as a dev, wouldn't have released this prototype. That's all.

Well, it worked, apparently. It got youtubers to advertise it.

Over 90% now! A few days ago I was sure this was gonna fail so I've been super happy to see the last minute boost! Honestly know almost nothing about this game (downloaded the demo but have yet to play) but I threw 5000y at it. Swery is such a fucking weird and unique voice in the industry and I just want more stuff from him.

Yeah but you'd be wrong, :P

because:

I'll agree in general though that the gaming audience at large doesn't understand things like early footage/prototype stuff. It's why crowdfunding projects are basically the only ones that still actually show rough early footage of games, and everyone else waits with showing their game until it's 95% done.

Only $50,000 to go with 69 hours left.

Following it closely as it's one of the few KS I'm passionate about. It almost looks guaranteed to make it now (especially as the last 48 hours notification has not gone out yet), but it's still a sizrable chunk left, and it's not over until it's over.

I'm so incredibly happy that this looks like it'll make it after all. Both because I really want to play it and also for Swery's sake. I imagine this surge has really lifted his spirits.

Yeah, it was really slowing down around half way mark. Shame what happened to D4, but I'm more excited for this one.

This is also the one I'm most passionate about. (The only one I've KS anyway.)
It's true the start and the final days of KS made up most of the funding.

Backed at the 8000 yen tier. I have to support Swery. Also, the game looks really cool.

I'm hoping my record will be 3 for 3 in turning out well on KS. (pillars, bloodstained, and now good life).

Actually, considering the huge turnaround on the Kickstarter despite the prototype's half-baked nature, it seems most people understood that a prototype is going to be, ya know, an unfinished and rough mess, i.e. not indicative of the final product.

Perhaps, it's time for you to recalibrate your understanding of the game development process, and yes, I'm aware you're a developer.

So happy to see this succeeding, after the first week I was sure it was going to fail. I just wish the PC beta tier was lower, I love seeing early builds of games.

Kind of annoyed at a typo in the latest update. My wife likes hoodies and the cat-ear one would be perfect. They said it's in the Warmer Life tier, but that's a t-shirt, with the hoodie being in the $250 tier instead. People have asked after this in both the update's comments as well as in general with no answer. Communication is not this campaign's strong point.

It's probably not helped that English is not most of the team's first language, but I can understand the frustration.
