What time does this release on the NA eshop? I got a medical appointment at 8:30am Eastern that involves sitting in a chair for hours. Could use something to swear at to help pass the time.

I recommend taking turns instead of going coop. Unless you're both really good at platformers.
Even then, single player is better

I've already played through it in single player on the Wii U, so I'm looking for a fresh experience.

We did a 100% run through of Yoshi's Woolly World together, which had a ton of rage involved, but that's what makes it so fun. If this game gets too tough we'll probably just switch to taking turns, but I can't see anything other than the bonus stages being too difficult.

This thread had me a bit excited. I just tried to play the version I downloaded a week ago and Nintendo said "Thank you for preordering DKCTF! We really appreciate you taking away all of those messy manufacturing costs by forgoing a physical copy! To reward you, we're going to make you wait longer to play it than those who stuck us with the physical media costs!" It's a beautiful thing!

This is so dumb. I've already played this game. My Wii U is 5 feet away, I could be playing this game right now. Yet I'm kinda giddy waiting for it to unlock on Switch as if it were a new game.

Literally me with Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, this game, soon to be Hyrule Warriors...

I don't have a problem, you have a problem!

Well, technically my Wii U is in another state and I don't really have room for it where I live, but the point stands!

Same boat here. I've never been this excited to play a game I could be playing right now if I just turned the Wii U on. But Donkey Kong deserves to be in my Switch pantheon. I guess the fresh start has me giddier than anything, and the satisfaction of giving Retro the support for its game it should have had 4 years ago.

Noice! Funky Kong best Kong! Nice OP, Opie! Looking forward to picking this up tomorrow from Best Buy (played the initial stages of the Wii U version years ago, but due to time constraints, didn't make it very far--looking forward to jumping back in!)

This is the main reason I bought the Switch for a few months back. Yes, even more than Zelda.

Can't wait

Can't wait!

This is my first time buying a game with Amazon Prime, it's nice to get it for $48. Doesn't sting as much as $60.

Gonna pick this up, the original was fucked up for me because of the damn Nunchuk crap of the Wii.

Hopefully now I can play this sequel with a normal controller in peace

Ok, i played 2 worlds on wiiu before I stopped because of other games. Not that difficult. Just challenging. Should I play original or funky ?

Original. It's the intended experience and what the level design is balanced for, and if difficulty isn't a problem there's no real reason to play Funky mode unless you are messing around or speedrunning.

One thing double-dipping on Bayonetta 2 and Shovel Knight earlier this year taught me is that aside from portability, ergonomics are a major consideration. I actually like the chunkiness of the Wii U GamePad better than most, and its D-pad and sticks are much better than the Joy-Cons, but Bayonetta and DKCTF had me sweating all over the thing and gripping it so tightly in the more intense sequences that it put a damper on long sessions.

I loaned out my copy of DKCTF after I cleared it to 200% (I actively lend/borrow physical copies among friends and family), so I don't even have it on hand, and at this point I know I'll want it on my Switch at some point, probably digitally so I can actually work on the time trials this time around. It's just a matter of seeing if I have the patience to wait for, oh, a 30%-ish eShop discount that may or may not ever show up. As someone who doesn't need an easy mode, this port adds less content than Captain Toad or HW, yet it's still the one I want most as it's the game I most enjoy playing. I don't know how long I'll hold out.

I don't want to set a precedent for repurchasing my entire 2014 Wii U haul (what with MK8/Bayonetta/Shovel Knight already on my Switch), not with so many ports on the way that add just enough to be tantalizing, but Nintendo isn't making it easy.

#6 of 2014 on the old board. (Too low, in my view.) It was a slow year outside of Nintendo but it was still an uphill battle against a small user base (for both the console and the game) and the initial resentment of the announcement that surely put some off picking up the game. It's a vindication of this community, which has a better eye for platformers than it does for most other genres, that if anything it led the charge for giving DKCTF the praise and attention it deserved. I didn't even know about that video until this week.

In retrospect, I think the "fucking Donkey Kong" hostility towards this serving as Retro's announcement back in 2013 was partly fuelled by the general sentiment that DKCR was merely pretty good. With the information we had at the time, nobody expected DKCTF to be this much of a step up.

What? Saying this game is great isn't a hot take at all, regardless of when it's said.

While it's always been a great game, some people are going to be experiencing it for the first time with this release.

Many of us praised the game in the original OT back on GAF and was #6 on our GotY list (should have been higher but ah well).

Anyone in Australia should be looking into getting this at EB if they have old games they want to get rid of. They've got a pretty solid trade in deal going on for it at the moment - trade 2 games in and get it for $29. Only stipulation is that each game has to have at least $5 trade in value which includes almost anything this gen outside of Destiny 1 and old sports games. Even The Order is eligible.

I've been screaming about this games quality, and making the same points as that video, basically since week 1. So we're plenty of people in the GAF OT.

You're not wrong about the real time shift in popular opinion with that video, though .

Here was the previous OT. Few people were already claiming as the best platformer, me included

Honestly, I think it's the opposite. Mark Brown's video seems like more of a response to how much so many people praised the game, rather than people praising the game due to his video. He even says in the video he ignored the game for a while.

There are only 2 things I hope they change in this "remaster":

- have the full version of the credits theme playing ( it cuts just before the beginning of the best part).

- this

Many of us were expecting the game to be legendary well before it even came out. (You can blame Neiteio for that.) And so many of us felt that the game lived up to our expectations in the end.
I was making posts on GAF extolling this game as the greatest 2D platformer I had ever played years before this video surfaced, and I was not the only one.
