It did?! Where? I read through the article multiple times. I must be blind.
Oh man, sorry, I figured the article you linked was the same as this Variety article on the same story. Variety says:

A Netflixspokesperson confirmed the news about "Arrested," which is set to return to the streaming service later this month.

Either this article was written before it was published today (and the "return" means S4R, but would be awkward to describe on the day it releases) or it means what it says and the S5 date is this month (which tracks with Mitch's message about the date being so close it's stupid they haven't announced it yet).

My wife and I made it like 7 episodes into season 4 before dropping it.

Sounds like this recut redeems it?

Assuming it releases on a Friday like most of netflix's originals, I'd assume S5 comes either the 11th or the 25th since there's no big releases publicly scheduled for that week. Idk if they'd want to do the 25th since Kimmy Schmidt comes out 5 days later.

There's also the possibility it comes out tomorrow for Cinco de Cinco but Ron Howard was apparently recording narration as recently as two days ago so that'd be a quick turnaround.

A few episodes in and this seems much much better. The George Michael aging joke made me lol

Lindsay and George Sr's storylines work much better spliced up like this. It was fucking excruciating to get through their episodes in the original cut.

This is so much better than the original season 4, but damn some of these actors are really different look wise, that just made the "the boy has aged" joke land so well, and I don't know what the trope is called, but no one does the "talking as if X person wasn't in the room but then pan out and show that the person was actually there" as hilarious that AD

Lindsay in particular looks like she got job done.

Props to Lucille for looking very much the same, hard to do at 65, mega hard at 75.

Does this still have GOB driving around with the giant crucifix in his car? I feel like that should have happened already with where I'm up to.

Oh gotcha. I haven't read the Variety article yet.

Uh, Lucille Bluth talks about 'building a wall' to keep out the immigrants. How did I not remember this.

Does Trump watch AD?

Been at work all day. How's the re-cut? Much better than what we originally got?

Im loving it
I think im on eps 9 now. I wish this was how it was originally shown.

Its mostly said that the latter half of S4 is the funniest. Since this sort of mixes together the weaker episodes (Lindsay, George SR.) with the strong ones (Tobias GOB GM) it feels more like S1-3.

Just a minute, the original season 4 is gone now? They should have kept it just for comparison sake.

Watched the first two episodes. Finding that I didn't remember much of S4 at all lol.

This is amazing! I've seen S4 before but I'm watching the recut with a buddy of mine that hasn't seen it before. We're laughing a lot every single episode and we're 12 episodes in. Love it.

I really disliked the original Season 4. So much so, I didn't even finish it. But I'm 15 eps into the Recut and I'm loving it!

While I still liked S4 OG overall, I 100% agree that George and Lindsey's episodes were easily the lowpoints of that run. Those two just were not able to carry the weight by themselves as written.

I remember doing a rewatch of S4 and just stopping when I got to the George episode. It looks like this recut has fixed these issues and will give it another shot.

Still doesn't fix the problem of the over-reliance on narration. I don't remember the OG being so narration-heavy. Probably used as a crutch to stitch together the story without being able to have the cast together in most of the scenes?

Yeah the recapping is still a little insane. It feels like over half the episode run time is spent with Ron Howard telling you what happened previously.

There feels like an over-reliance on narration in some episodes, but being able to put more characters into episodes together feels better, even if they don't share screen time. There is the chance for what seems like more new jokes that balance out some lost jokes from the change in formats. Also, the chance for more direct juxtapositions of storylines puts a new perspective on some of the storylines.

Overall, it feels like an improvement, but sometimes it's like swapping one set of problems with another.

This song doesn't appear in season 4, but I wish there were a full version of this:

Oh man, adding some musical cues really landed some new jokes. Also, tying Lindsay and Tobias' episodes together was a smart move. In the original edit, we visit their scenes three seperate times-first with Lindsay, then the episode right after with Tobias, and then a third time much later with Maeby. Just putting Lindsay and Tobias together right off the bat makes things flow a lot nicer. Also, Tobia's soundmix is off in a few places. He sounds like has an echo in a few scenes where he shouldn't.

Listening back to the old episodes, you can notice similar problems like echoey audio. It's a bit of a bummer, but I guess it'll be consistently familiar!

I tried watching S4 twice over the last couple years and just couldn't make it the whole way thru. Now I can't stop watching. Loving the new cut.

If I had one complaint, it would be that there's a lot of cutting back and forth in time to where it's difficult to tell when things are happening in relation to each other.

But still, I never laughed this hard at S4 until now. Fantastic work.

Man is there any other way to watch this. It's still not up here in Japan and god knows when it will be.

I loved the original season 4 so hearing all these impressions is getting me excited.

Prediction: Season 5 involves George Senior running for office.
I think Mitch said at some point that S1-3 were meant to parallel the Bushes and that S5 will likely parallel the Trumps, so that might be likely. Though Lindsey is set up perfectly to do just that in S4.

I recommend the Skip Recap button. Some of these episodes are 3-4 minutes of recap each episode and boy is that a slog.

Watched the first three episodes and this edit is great so far. And I don't care what anyone thinks, Hello Darkness is the best recurring joke in the series.
