I always dismissed Tokyo Ghoul as something for edgelords but gave it a go when bored one night and thoroughly enjoyed it.

picked up jpn Tomo-chan first volume for practice last night and english Wotokoi 1+2 volumes. Man the english-language comics/manga section is so big these days at kinokuniya, i'd be so happy if i let myself spend shittonnes of money much.

Whatever goodwill Tokyo Ghoul had totally got ruined by RE. Goddamn it got so tiring to get through after a certain point.

To me Toyko Ghoul always looked like some edgelord garbage *shrug*
Its pretty much a tortured vampire/monster story and I'm a sucker for those kind of tales when done right. That and post apocalyptic stories where people are forced into a corner, people are dying, everything goes wrong and people still find moments of hope. Something beautiful about our humanity when we truly struggle that attracts me to those sorts of stories. I love Attack on Titan aswell for that reason.

Its extremely violent but I think it also shows a lot of sentimentalism and tragedy at times. Characters who didn't have to become monsters, started out normal and innocent despite the circumstances of their birth but were slowly thrust further and further into extremism, isolation, violence, etc as the world turned on them and they turn on each other in order to survive. That kind of thing.

There are times it gave me genuine feels, something not a lot of manga/anime has done to me.

I don't think I'm going to sell anyone on it, my pitches are terrible and I make it sound very emo and melodramatic but I really grew attached to the characters through the show.

Bloom Into You 1-10

Damn, this is great. I love the art style and how slowly the romance is building. I couldn't help but notice how much restraint the author is exercising during some scenes. If it was a certain other yuri series, it would be sexual assaults galore.

There's something about the art style that gives it a very whimsical / western animation feel. Some of Yuu's expressions especially. Maybe its how low the mouths are drawn? I dunno, but I love it. The art in general is fantastic.

I dont trust Maki-kun. Dude looks suss and I can easily imagine him turning into an asshole.

Eden no Otome ch1-2 by Usoumi Watanabe

eden42r0k.png

In the near future, humanity is now comprised of only women, and they now reproduce homosexually.

Aside from this premise, it seems to be a rather plain highschool yuri story so far. Gonna see how far the author takes the setting.

Shuukan Shounen Hachi ch14

Hachi and panda girl have become pretty chummy now. He still needs to improve himself however.

Mahou Tsukai no Yome ch45

Guess Cartaphilus won't trouble them anymore. This chapter felt rather final, so I'm curious to see what further development it might have.

Kodansha seems really bad when it comes to getting their sales working on Amazon. their Sci-Fi sale is like the second or third one in a row where either only some of the series listed get the discount or the discount never happens at all. like comixology and bookwalker get implemented almost right away, but the kindle store's version is hit and miss.

oh well still managed to pick up the Space Brothers, Inuyashiki and Knights of Sidonia volume 1's for 99 cents each so I guess I really can't complain that much.

I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags...

Title is pretty self explanatory.
Isekai where the main character is a girl that is reborn in the otome game she last played as the main rival of the player character of that game.
She would normally be doomed to die or get exiled, but she becomes aware of her role.
Super cute and pretty funny. Tropey, but that's the point.

Yeah, I think I have seen few of them. One is Isekei and other is an ecchi. I have a weird feeling that Gyaru is closer to trend, but dunno.

I also have a thing for "gyaru". Don't @ me.

Gyaru Quest 8

Poor Crapman...er, I mean Weiss is having a misfortune when gyaru girls were around.

Lmao of course theres isekai gyaru. Of course. I also just read one about some dude becoming some gyaru's maid. Its exactly what you expect. I guess loose socks are in again. Or maybe they never stopped?

I saw some fanart of the Powerpuff Girls as sukeban and I never wanted a series to exist more

like, gyaru is fine, but there's this weird focus on the 'pure gyaru' which is like "I want a desperately horny girl who is still nonetheless virginial and pure" fantasy 101. Sometimes it's good like Galko-chan and sometimes it's just kinda weird like My First Girlfriend is a Gal. I feel like the main question is whether or not you actually get to explore the gyaru character's head (which is why in spite of being kinda sexual assaulty and weird Citrus isn't absolutely the worst just kinda trashy) or whether it leaves them as a weird mysterious 'other'

but yes sukeban more sukeban plz. juvenile girl delinquents who don't take crap. super fun

Hajimete no Gal is the dumbest wish fulfillment fantasy ever.

Basically the plot is an incel gets an insanely hot girlfriend who wants to fuck him so bad she practically dry humping his leg and he resists constantly for no reason at all - there is literally nothing stopping him nor any incentive for him to refuse beyond him being able to whine about his incel-ness.

Yeah, despite its faults, Citrus actually did a decent job of not making Yuzu and Harumi into dumb gyaru caricatures. I was curious about Hajimete no Gal but seems like I shouldn't even bother, hah.

Was Natsume from My Little Monster a gyaru? If so she's def my favorite one. If not, well, I still love her.

But that's literally not incel. It's voluntary celibacy. It's still reactionary crap, though.

Guys, I need some recommendation for straight up fantasy manga besides Dungeon Meshi. Isekai is fine as long as it is not filled with gamey crap nonsense.

(Thanks to Zweizer and Akito before for the oneshots recommendation, really helps me).

Yeah, kinda noticed more of gyaru title when looking random manga. The one from Hoshino Me O Tsubutte really stick out for me though, since she's such a good character.

Same phenomenon in h-manga as well, albeit a fair chunk of them are rather to put an emphasis to the downfall of a character (Emergence/Metamorphosis for example). I doubt there's a single series responsible for the resurgence, but I would say the Galko anime probably pushed it to the front the most in the past two years.

Bakarina is pureness (read the lignt/web novels) and the black hole of densenes(this will not make sense now, but you will understand in time).
If it's at all similar it should be a pretty fun read.

Given Maria, I think I know what you're alluding to, and I suspected as much if so.

Kuro-senpai to Kuroyashiki no Yami ni Mayowanai 1-8

Artist - Hmmm...I have an extreme foot fetish. How do I justify this. Oh, I'll just pretend I'm writing a story but its really just an excuse to show feet. Brilliant

In the 8th chapter they literally 69. but with feet

It works for Tarantino.

Bakuman vol 1-20

I just finished reading Bakuman, and my god I loved it. It has some pretty cool insight into the manga process (and a bit of an explanation about what happened with the second half of Death Note), but it's real strength is the amazing cast of characters. The main duo is great, but it's really the supporting cast that makes it sing. Eiji Nizuma is my favorite rival, but you can't help but smile every time Hiramaru shows up, and I just love Hattori.

I mean, c'mon, look at these good boys.

Agree. Though I did read like the first 16 chapters or so. After that I questioned why I'm still reading it because its just, not very good.

People whine in aot that the major characters never die, then the series kills a major character and everyone rage quits.

Kengan Asura 106

A weak methodical guy is facing a deathmatch with a prodigious fighter? What could possibly go wrong?

Also this cover is so fine.
