Yeah I'd love to see one for each genre haha, not sure how many people here dive so deep into the rabbit hole of one genre though lol.

There we go, been waiting on those. I think I saw your 2015 list on the old site but your computer was broke for 16 if memory serves. Good to see these, thanks!

Song of the Day
Since we were talking Exodus yesterday, I'm putting up Raze for today's song. I love the Shovel Headed Kill Machine album and really need to get on purchasing this, but the opening tune does a really good job of setting the tone of the rest of the album. I nearly put Deathamphetamine up instead but it was a bit long for my taste today. So burn this bitch straight to the ground and enjoy your Sunday!

One of the 3 albums that got me into thrash and metal in general. Exodus is just a great band.

Also thanks for the list(s) Bitanator! Gotta say im surprised to see Brotherhood of The Snake on the list for its respective year. Personally feel like its Testament's weakest album but I think im in the minority there.

I feel personally attacked. I think Souls of Black is a good, solid album lol, not their best but its got some good songs on there, like Face in the Sky and the title track. Its no Electric Crown, Practice What You Preach or More Than Meets the Eye but its not bad. Id put it above Dark Roots of the Earth and Brotherhood if I were to make a list.

Every song on Dark Roots is more energetic than that boring B sides release they lazily tossed out on that morning October 9th 1990. I wish I could get the time back from ever listening to it haha. It really is one of the most boring generic albums from a top class thrash band, track for track it loses to both Practice and The Ritual, so it exists in a place of the 80s where is does nothing well, and the 90s where is does not belong.

The Legacy - Fantastic
The New Order - Fantastic
Practice What You Preach - Inconsistent but still pretty good, needed to be only 8 tracks long
Souls of Black - Zzzzzz
The Ritual - Fantastic
Low - Fantastic

There is no reason to ever revisit souls of black and give it the full 40 minutes to me, it just does not do enough to keep your attention, if they went directly from Practice to the Ritual nothing of value would be lost.

Shitting on Souls of Black...for shame

Literally one of the few thrash albums I starting to fall asleep listening to.

We in almost in tune... almost... just don't agree with Low, the title says it all!
Souls of Black does have a better album cover than Low and that's it! -hehehe

Low is great, James Murphy gives new life to their sound and Chuck Billy brings so much power into his voice. Those first five tracks are tough to beat, I enjoy it much more than The Gathering which sems to be the 90s album Testament fans like most

I am fond of Souls of Black (the song) perhaps due to nostalgia. One of my earliest metal memory is being given this compilation (cassette version) by my brother at a very tender age and enjoying the hell of the first side (and always rewinding because side B was complete crap even when I was 9-10 years old XD) and it was therefore my first Testament song and I really liked it and still do. :3

I love the solo in Souls of Black, but I love anything by Alex

Yikes that B side is utter dogshit haha.

Haha yep. Even as a kid I could tell this was so inferior to cool shit like King Diamond, Judas Priest and Megadeth. -)

today I'd still take that B-side over any metalcore or nu-metal though...

Does anyone listen to Jute Gyte? It's this totally deconstructed microtonal black metal stuff. A friend played Oviri for me and now I'm hooked, wondering which of his other 20-something albums I should make sure to listen to.

Does anyone listen to Jute Gyte? It's this totally deconstructed microtonal black metal stuff. A friend played Oviri for me and now I'm hooked, wondering which of his other 20-something albums I should make sure to listen to.

I know Jute Gyte but i don't like this band at all. I think his music is really band. Sorry just my opinion, can't help you with any recomendation.

Every time i go into a record shop I think long and hard about it tbh, I scroll through everything they have available, but a lot of what they have is more popular stuff that I've either listened to intensely already (pretty much the entire Megadeth catalogue bar Risk and Supercollider) or stuff that I don't really think lends itself particularly well as a record listening experience opposed to streaming a few songs here and there. I still want to collect all my favorites but its never a must have at that very moment. I feel like Opeth and stuff like Bell Witch's Mirror Reaper or even some Black/Atmospheric Black would do a lot better, but last time I checked Mirror Reaper was sold out online and I've never seen it in person, and I don't really come across Black/Atmospheric Black in person either. Beyond Mirror Reaper Burzum's Filosofem is something Id enjoy putting on but, again knowing the kind of shit Varg gets up to Id rather not give him money to continue it. But if anyone has any suggestions based on my criteria Im all ears.

The only time I ever really end up going to Discogs is when there's an expensive colored album that Im imterested in and am dumb enough to buy it. So basically what Im saying is, that clear and very expensive Mirror Reaper vinyl will probably be mine.

Song of the Day

Immolation (NY) - Into Everlasting Fire

IMO this is one of those thoroughly singular entries into the death metal canon that to this day have very few successful imitators. Even though this was an R/C record I remember reading that the band wanted to do something completely different from the Morrisound stuff from a sound perspective, and the result is staggering. Easily one of the most massive sounding, oppressively dark records of its era.

As a former collector myself the best tip i can give you is: Think way way ahead with your purchases and what this collection really means to you. If you want to continue to the rest of your life make sure you have a spare room to keep it.
I sold mine 4 years ago for my newborn, i needed both the room and the money, and believe me that money was very needed, when you don't have anyone to help you, babies are expensive as fuck...

But on topic, you seem to have a broad tste in music and metal, you should probably sell that Burzum album, cause Varg is the least of Burzum's problems :P and put that money on something more to your likening.

That's kind of where Im at now, I love collecting physical stuff, but Ill only grab stuff I really really like or feel is worthwhile. Hopefully im still a few years off from having any children but my space is limited as is so I never really have the opportunity to go overboard.

As for Filosofem, I don't own it lol Ive just listened to it on spotify and even that is fairly limited. But its the kinda album that lends itself well to a record format I think, not metal but King Gizzard's Murder of the Universe is another great album that is better as a record because youre kind of forced to listen to the whole thing because of the way its structured and its probably my favorite in my collection because of that.

Hell yeah! Honestly if I had to pick a favorite band from the last 20 years it would be them. Theyre slowly making their way into my all time list also. Such a great band that never ceases to amaze. The fact that they put out Murder of the Universe, Flying Microtonal Banana and Gumboot Soup is incredible just from the standpoint of the musical range and ability of the group, but they did it all in a year. Just absolutely wild.

Mortuary Drape/Sargeist/Profanatica playing 2 minutes from my house the same night as Exhorder playing Chicago.......gaaaaaaaah

If you're in the U.S. and like grindcore at all, Wormrot (Singapore) and Viscera Infest (Japan) will be touring the East Coast this month. Should check them out if they come near you, as they're both awesome and these are pretty rare appearances.
My band is opening the Wormrot date here, should be exciting

Perfectly set up for a 90s sitcom shenanigans episode
I'd try to make both but I doubt it's feasible

I already have a ticket to Exhorder and I haven't seen them, they're one of my faves......but I don't know that the show would be as good overall

I've seen Mortuary and Profanatica, I don't like either as much as Exhorder. It feels insane that it's actually a debate for me (never thought I'd see em) but idk. Sounds like most of my friends are bailing for Mortuary lol

Watching videos of the current Exhorder reunion it's like "oh that's fun I like these songs" but not necessarily a great performance or anything. Old men having a go at it

Fuck this is a good lineup. I kinda doubt I'll ever get to see Drape. Volahn are good too.
Last time I saw MD they toured with mgla

They were really good but they didn't even go on until 1:15am, didn't finish until 2:20 or something. Still the latest show I've ever been to

I usually check out after 12:30 regardless of how good a band is, past that it just becomes waiting for the show to end...

Hopefully this time's a bit more reasonable

Yeah thats sounds pretty rough.

Hopefully its a great night either way.

I'm not even sure what gigs I have coming up outside of Pan Daijing, which is not metal but should be pretty hellish.

Because it would be that hard to take the five seconds and look the band up?

Yea I didn't get that one either. I also didn't get the comment in the genre thread about not posting here because people post bands that person had never heard of so we were trying to be kvlt... as opposed to finding something cool and passing it along. To each their own I guess.
