Apple is issuing a software update for the cold screen issue

https://m.imore.com/iphone-x-cold-weather

We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment," an Apple spokesperson told iMore. "After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update.

There's nothing special about "fast charging" qi chargers. Just gotta look at the rate.

Most phones that are plugged in all the time still use battery. They cycle off from 100 to 90 , then start charging again. They dont' switch power sources like bigger devices.
Eh laptops do this but I thought phones didn't. A MacBook for example will hit 100 and then you can literally see the percentage drop to 95% and then the charging starts up again until it is back at 100. But for phones, they will never sit on the charger at 100, and drop to 90 or 95 and then top off to 100 cycling over and over. You're laptop may have sat on the charger two days and say 96% when you unplug it for that reason, but phones will not let themselves drop like that and they'll use their charger to let the battery sit unscathed at 100% (that said, I'm not saying it endlessly draws power, but it certainly seems like it just cycles from maybe a hidden 99% to 100% or something so that it can always show as full when you go to unplug.

But I may understand this wrong based on my observations

Pulled the trigger on a space grey and a silver. One for me, the other a christmas gift for my fiance. Delivery estimate of Dec 14-21. Cutting it close.

I thought I read that phones did do it, but they always showed 100% even though they could go down to 90% or so or back up again.

Phones definitely do it, all lithium ion batteries do. They just don't show it because people would freak out if they took their phone off the charger in the morning and it was at 95%. So your phone just lies to you

Glad they did right by you and replaced it, but I'm not sure it'll fix the issue, as Apple said today it's a software problem they'll be fixing soon.

Wait what? Where did they say this??

Oh I see it now. Damn it!! Well it shouldn't use up my apple care at least. And now my girlfriend doesn't think I made it up.

In app Face ID authentication the real deal.

It just works.

I feel for those who returned their iPhones or mailed it in only for a software fix incoming

I feel dumb... you can just swipe left or right at the bottom of the screen to switch apps. I was doing that inverted L swipe but it's unecessary.

It's actually kind of hard to get used to. The apps keep their order in that list, until you interact with one and it immediately jumps to be the first item and everything else shuffled down by one

Shit is that how it works? I was wondering why sometimes the app would keep the order and sometimes it would go to the first position.

Some of you guys said that when setting up your new phone, faceID was able to log into apps with your password from Apple keychain? I have keychain setting on but none of my apps did that. How do I store my app logins to my keychain?

It should do it automatically, as long as the corresponding username and password for the website is stored in Keychain

And that works with the app? So if I go to Amazon.com on safari and sign in, my password will autopopulate on the app? I guess that's the issue. Can't think of any site where I use both the site and the app

Yeah it's definitely something to get used to especially if you switch rapidly between apps for info often. If you're swiping constantly, the apps stay in their place in the stack from before. If you keep an app open for 5+ seconds, it pushes that app to the front of the stack.

If Safari is set to remember your Amazon information, then the Amazon app will pull from keychain. The app and the website have to match up

Posting again since I didn't get any opinions:
Do you guys use a RAW app for capturing all your pics? Or mostly the native app and just RAW for when you're trying to get good pics you'll edit?

I have trouble getting in the habit of opening my third party camera app over my native one. Apple could solve everything if they let me capture RAW in the native app.

LMAO, its a good thing I got swindled into getting that AC+ a few days ago. Making an appointment now.

I've never had such bad luck with a phone before!

Every time an app has an update that doesn't include fixing the ugly bars on the X I die a little on the inside. This shit is not hard.

Looking at you, Twitch and Pokémon GO.

I wonder if swiping up from either corner of the bottom would be a better gesture for control center? Maybe a little less space on each side than they use for the gensture now. You pretty deliberately have to try and hit each side, I wouldn't see it happening accidentally very often.

Would not mind if all of the top was for Notification and double tapping the Home Bar popped the control center up

Oof, I'm so sorry

But hey that AC+ coming in handy real quick!

They may give you grief about it just being a scratch because technically AC+ doesn't cover scratches, just breaks. So you may have to break your screen a bit. Depends on how anal the tech is.

I'm not laughing by the way, that legitimately sucks. Also because while the screen can be repaired as far as I'm aware stores don't have any screens yet so the whole phone is gonna have to be replaced. Again.

Hmm, yeah I expected the phone to be replaced again. I did mention to the support person I was chatting with that it was a very minor scratch but that I just wanted to take care of it and she said it was do able.

I wasn't even in the room when it happened. I was washing my face this morning listening to a podcast with the phone on the counter and I went out the kitchen and came back with it facedown on the tile. LOL. I can only assume it started vibrating or something.

Its crazy. I've never scratched a phones screen before. I always consider it to be the toughest part of the phone.

Honestly, it IS such a minor scratch. I can only see it when I'm looking for it. If I hadn't just had this whole weird AC+ thing happen I'd be content to just live with it. But hey, smoke 'em if you got 'em.

Keep in mind that you have a limited number of uses, 2 total over those 2 years

New control center was one of the best improvements in iOS 11 and then they made it super hard to even access it on the X. It's very difficult to reach that top right corner when using the phone one-handed.

I hope they eventually allow users to customize the system-wide gestures. The gesture to invoke reachability (swiping down on home bar) would be perfect for control center.

Woooof that sucks.

I remember when the iPhone 4 came out and literally the 2nd day I knocked it off my side table and got a huge scratch on it.

I ended up being kind of a dick about it at the Genius Bar and they gave me the one time "pity this pathetic jerk" exchange

Trade in was completed on my upgrade program and my loan is showing a negative balance. I guess Apple pays based on when you send it in? It's a little over half a months payment and I think the order was at about the halfway point of the month in terms of my statement date.

The attention aware features don't seem to be working.
I'm using my phone normally and the notification volume is still really loud.
