Going to copy the instructions I gave another member here rather than PM. Should work for C6 and E6. (maybe G6?)

Download this zip file. It contains the firmware and files you'll need to edit and execute so the TV finds the local update.
Are you using Windows?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/z0a4ebbhduhokjs/LgDTVUpDater.zip?dl=0

Instructions from online:
  1. Download and extract this zip file on a Windows box.
  2. Modify the following two files and replace the IP address with the local IP address of your windows box: htdocs/HE_DTV_W16M_AFADATAA and dns/AcrylicHosts.txt.
  3. Run startDNS.bat and startHTTP.bat files in two different command prompts.
  4. On your TV, go to the network settings and set the DNS server to the IP address that you used in step 2.
  5. Check for new updates and it should say that it found version 04.30.95.

My personal notes on the above steps:
You just have to make sure your PC has a static IP on our local network to start with.

  1. I decompressed the folder on my root C: drive so it's just C:\LgDTVUpDater
  2. The 1st file mentioned, I just changed the IP to my local computer's IP in 1 spot in the "</IMAGE_URL>" tag, on the 2nd file I changed the bottom 3 IP addresses
  3. I opened up 2 CMD windows and executed each file. They should open up and do things. Your PC may ask to allow them network access.
  4. Do as instructed. But I had to turn off the TV, and restart it before checking for new updates. You should see activity in one of the CMD windows as the TV starts communicating with your PC.

Same. Although, admittedly, I'm also one of the people who's more prone to want to preserve the way images look in theater, and there's plenty of judder when you watch movies in the theater, so maybe I just don't notice it as much since I take for granted that it's supposed to look that way?
Don't cinema projectors also "flicker" the image? I thought that was one of the reasons plasma had a more film-like look with movies.

Okay.... I'm not sure the THX scoring system even functions properly?

In the FAQ it says that "all scores are weighted equally" to derive the final score. but if you just add the scores up, the B7A scores ~800 points and the Sony scores ~730. I'm not sure how the Sony achieves a higher average score?

It's such a shame too, because the art direction of Westworld is so insane...those sweeping plateaus, etc, but sometimes it just looks like garbage

I'm curious how the 4K blu-ray release for that looks, I'll need to check out some reviews, maybe I'll pick it up if it gets a christmas sale discount since I've already waited so long since I didn't end up buying it when it first came out. Might be the best way to rewatch.

To play devil's advocate, I'm on an OLED C7 coming from a KURO (42" 720p), and the stuttering (or judder?) is definitely noticeable and distracting on 24fps content.

Watch the opening of La La Land when the camera is panning along the cars on the highway. It's ridiculous.

Anyone have the LG SJ800V (or SJ8500 as it's known in the US)?

Really great TV for games (God of War looks incredible on it) but I'm struggling with 4K UHD movies :(

Anyone have a good picture settings walkthrough for the TV in general?

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/40-42-43-inch

Alternatively, I'd consider a big PC monitor if picture quality is very important to you. The economics of the TV industry are such that usually your top 2 to 3 tier models in any given brand aren't built in a size that small, since they're generally lower margin and the user base is considerably smaller.

Thanks for the answer! I have a very good Gsync 1440p Acer monitor, but I want that HDR and 4k for console games and movies as well.

In the beginning, I wanted a good 40" TV that can do 4k and some ok HDR, without being expensive. Tons of "recommended" TVs for around 400€ - 700€ on those comparison sites.

BUT:

I've gone into crazy research mode and read ALL the "Best of" lists, reviews of the top TVs, watched Youtube reviews etc. And holy shit! It's complicated as fuck! First of, every company has it's own product lines or "series". You think that if you read the review for the 55" TV, the same stuff applies to the other TVs in the same series. Wrong! While a lot of 55" and bigger TVs have nice contrast, good panels etc., the 40", 43" or 49" TVs have different panels and are worse the majority of the time. It doesn't say it on the Amazon page or on the company homepages, I had to dive into some detailed tests to find out. Most big TVs have 100hz panels for example, while the smaller ones only have 50mhz panels. Or the big versions have a real HDR10 panel while everything under 50" uses HDR8+ panels. All within the same series.
While the small TVs get good ratings on those comparison sites, the bigger variants of those same TVs are suddenly mediocre compared to the other good big TVs.
Obviously, HDR is supported by all those "small" TVs, but implemented pretty badly because the real HDR panels are build into the 50"+ and very expensive TVs. Blacks, contrast and brightness are so much worse compared to the real good expensive, big TVs.

There is backlight dimming for good blacks for example, which a lot of TVs have. There is a checked box on all those spread sheets and you think the TV has it. Yeah but there are huge differences, some have a lot of small "areas" that can be dimmed individually, others have six horizontal zones that can be dimmed, others dimm the whole screen. Which makes a big difference, because the not dimmed areas look more grey than black.
Also, brightness is very important for HDR and most screens are just not bright enough to produce proper HDR. They are just HDR10 compatible and have a bit higher contrast than normal when using HDR. In other words, it says HDR but really isn't.

So there are a lot of checked boxes on paper, but it's often meaningless. And then every manufacturer has it's own names and words for the same things or uses different technologies, which makes it even more complicated to compare them. It's crazy how much the costumer has to read to understand all that stuff.

In the end, I bought a TV that was on not mentioned anywhere in those Top 10 lists for TVs smaller than 50". I bought an LG 49SJ800V. With 49" t's bigger than I wanted, but there was just nothing comparable under 50". It has a native HDR10 panel with good contrast and ok blacks (6 horizontal lines of dimming), 120mhz, the very cool Nano Cell Technology which is not as good as the crazy expensive OLEDs, but still very good. It has decent Harmann Kardon speaker and very important for me: Very low input lag. Bought it new on Ebay for a good price. It will arrive end of this week, I'm curious to test it. Haven't played the new God Of War yet, so I think it would be a perfect test for the new TV.

Yeah the motion handling on OLED definitely can be juddery. I actually use Tru motion on the lowest possible setting. No Soap Opera effect, and mostly no motion artifacts. Occasionally I see artifacts, but only stuff like fans spinning really fast, it's a compromise for sure, but looks great 99 percent of the time. Obviously ymmv depending how sensitive you are to artifacts.

I haven't followed the later models - but this was actually the recommended setting by calibrators because going from TruMotion 0 to Trumotion 1 doubled the motion resolution of the television on the 6 series - I believe. Or something like that.

Anyways, it's not the usual TURN ALL TRUMOTION OFF on the 6 series OLEDs.

I dunno what 4K TV my friend has, but we played some MLB Show 18 this weekend and holy fuck did it look like complete trash compared to my B7A. I'm sure his settings were out of the box and he doesn't have HDR but still, just a night and day difference.

Are there any good Home Theatre systems for somewhat cheap? Looking at upgrading my Sony DAV-HDX975WF at some point in the near future.

If you can do the 55" you'll definitely appreciate the larger screen.

Looks like Rtings seemed to find the 900E and the 900F pretty similar, looks like they say the 900F will get a little brighter for HDR and the other difference is that it'll get the Dolby Vision update, though HDR10 of course looks great too. So it depends if you'd have any remorse missing DV or want to save the money which they seem to think is fine too. Might be worth checking out a couple of other reviews to see if they share that the two are this similar.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900f

If I could find a 55" X900E I'd probably jump on it but as it stands I can only find a 49". Think I should spend the $200 for the X900F for a more future proof set (Dolby Vision) or hold out for the 55 X900F to hit a price I'm comfortable with? Don't want to make a decision I'll regret. lol

I need some room lighting advice.

My entertainment room is quite dark even during the day. I've always had a pole lamp in the corner for light and it is on whenever I'm in it, even when watching movies. Simply put even with the TVs light cranked down it still hurts my eyes to view in a dark room. The lamp always got along well with the LEDs I've used over the years, but now that I have an OLED I'm finding the light to be interfering with the picture.

So what is some advice to get some comfortable lighting in the room while not interfering with the picture quality on an OLED?

Maybe put the lamp to the side of the TV? Will be in your line of sight so your eyes can adapt better and shouldn't directly glare on the TV.

Best thing for your eyes overall would probably be a ceiling light.

Should I try to get a replacement for my TV? I purchased a 50'' Hisense HLE501 a couple months ago (apparently a model that's exclusive to Latin America,) and it looked great for a while, then I started noticing vertical banding/DSE during dimly lit scenes. From what I read online, this is normal? I have a 32'' TV for almost 10 years without any banding. This is what the screen looks like with a static grey picture:

It's not so bad, but whenever I see a panning shot it becomes really apparent. What should I do?

Finally got my new 65inch TCL 6 series. Anyone have any good settings for it? I tried using rtings.com settings from the P series, but it looked like crap. Had to go back to default. I'm just running a base PS4 and a Switch for now.

Hi Era,
As I said in one of my earlier post, I really felt in love with the image quality of the LG C7. But the price tag for it in the Philippines is really high (2,800EUR for the 65", and I really need a 65").
On top of that, I am really afraid of the burn-in / wearing issues of the OLED technology. Seems it is still quite a new tech... do we have an idea of what the screen will look like 5 years from now? I am not throwing 2,800 EUR if the screen is going to age badly, lose some brightness and look like trash after a few years...

Ran into a weird problem with my TCL 55R617 (55" 6 series) over the weekend. Image has been great, the soundbar has been doing it's job, but...

For whatever reason, I lost Internet access (wireless) on Saturday night and now it cannot find the 5 GHz portion of my network. My phone and PS4 Pro find it without any issue.

It's strange, because I had it initially running on the 5GHz one, and now no matter what I reset it just won't show up. Only the 2.4GHz network comes up.

Anyone else experience something like this?

Oh right.
It's a tough call lol. You really want to get the biggest size TV you can. So it probably depends on how much bigger the 55" would look in your room and how much cheaper it'd need drop before you'd be able to go up to it. Like will it drop enough maybe late this summer (since that seems to be one of the times for some drops) or at least by the holidays or are you talking a larger drop that might take until at least next year and then trying to get it before it gets discontinued like the E? On the other end, it looks like your current TV size from the previous post is a 40" so a 49" is at least going up in size so it'll still look noticeably bigger than your last TV, it's especially hard to go down TV sizes. Overall 55's seem to be a good average (heck a lot of people seem to be going for the 65s).

Especially if the price difference is small it probably makes sense to go up to that 900F with DV since it's already available, if you're already thinking about potential regret over not having something that you could have already had, just to save a little, like I would be too lol. Especially since the F seems to be overall somewhat better anyway (so it's not like some other years where there might have been a drop off between years). The F that'll eventually support DV also gives you the better X1 Extreme processor that was formerly only in their top TVs so it should have their top upscaling.

FYI. Currently the DV update only works in the internal apps and the Apple TV 4K, we still have to wait for more HDMI devices to also support this new DV profile.

It's a side effect of the technology unfortunately. You could try replacing it, but I've never seen an LCD/LED without some DSE so you might end up with worse.

I don't think the ks8000 was ever considered a budget tv. Bang for your buck...midrange yes?

For lg oled owners who've mentioned tru motion. What are you usingfor dejudder and deblur? What does deblur even do and when does it do it? I've seen 0-10 as recommended.

Dejudder is the option that controls soap opera effect correct? Am I supposed to be turning off real motion or does that get done automatically if I turn on truemotion.

Going from 50in to 65 is definitely noticeable upgrade in size. If memory serves, the ks8000 has roughly twice the brightness of the TCL so hdr won't be nearly as good, but the TCL has better blacks and built in roku. If you have the money for it, go for it..65 inch tvs are awesome

Can anyone that has an LG OLED (preferably a 2016 model, B6, C6 etc) and the Arrival UHD do me a favor please? Play it and watch any scene with a bright sky, background, 'window' of the ship and see if you notice quite a bit of color banding. I'm trying to figure out if I have a setup issue or it's just the way my B6 looks with that disc. Someone on the Blu-ray forum has a ZD9 and says the disc has very little banding in it.

So I just went with the Vivid setting on the TCL and WOW this TV is beautiful!!! I watched Game of Thrones with the fast action motion thing and it was like watching a whole new show!! Felt like I was there. Haven't even attempted to play any games yet and already know my mind will be blown! BTW this is my first 4k/ hdr tv and also the biggest TV I've ever had (65inch), so maybe I'm just a little more easily blown away.

I'll be moving into a new place in December and won't be able to take any TVs with me - perfect opportunity to grab new stuff.

But, despite the fact that there's always something new around the corner and you'll always find somebody saying "wait for ______ next year", buying a TV / Receiver Just before HDMI 2.1 releases... I feel it'd be a particularly bad time to get in. But then again, I can't just move in in December with nothing and then wait for April/May 2019 sets to release. The HDMI 2.1 spec looks insane. VRR, 120fps, up to 10(?)k resolution, eARC...

Even if all we get is VRR + 4k60 HDR 4:4:4 + eARC and the fancier stuff (exotic resolutions and framerates) gets ignored, I would probably regret making a large investment on Black Friday and then have a ton of legit new useful features come out 5 months later.

The jump from good 2016 sets to 2017, and 2017 to 2018 seems so minor next to what could potentially be the 2018 to 2019 jump. But I'll feel REAL dumb if I skip Black Friday deals and then the narrative changes to "oh you'll get this stuff in 2020".

So my question is: how late in the year do you think we can reasonably expect to have reliable ish info on what the 2019 sets will bring to the table?
