This is the problem, as someone who is primarily a solo PvE player.

I get my weekly milestones done in a session or two, than what do I do for the rest of the week? I'm fine with grinding heroic strikes if I'm getting gear that is a 1-2 LL increase, but the drops from heroic strikes are capped at 340 so there's no point.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Increasing the grind for max light was a good thing. But that just doesn't make sense as a basic design choice. There still needs to be a reason to play Heroic Strikes. Helping players reach a specific light level is one of those reasons.

Or how about Strike-specific loot? They finally added it back into the game but made them exclusive to Nightfalls.

They should also have a chance of dropping from Heroic Strikes, just less of a chance than Nightfalls.

These heroic strikes are really bumming me out. Even at PL 351, this is not enjoyable just doing matchmaking. It feels like a chore, and the disadvantages aren't interesting to me - they're just punishing for no good reason. And doing three of them gives nothing but soft capped gear and one milestone.

I'm inclined to skip this milestone, but since Clan XP milestone no longer gives powerful engrams, I need to do it to reach escalation protocol level power in a reasonable time frame.

I guess the upside is a longer tail on the content?

Complete five heroic strikes and I have to have that shitty hand cannon equipped?

This is going to take a minute...

Really wanted to get into ranked crucible, but its basically a hellhole of getting matched against full fireteams all over the elo spectrum (basically "rank" is meaningless).

Just had my entire team drop and cement a loss streak, which is really cool.

Yep, I had a 2 game or 3 game streak just to then have my next few matches guys drop leaving it 4-2 and 4-1.... Lost my points

Just equiped. Thankfully you don't have to take down the bosses with it, like the precious steps.

My issue is the next step (and apparently second to last step). It's gonna take a while...

Actually it hasn't been that bad. I've done two so far and no wipes. It took us around 13 minutes for each. My 350 DARCI is doing work.

What did you guys do for the boss/elite enemies step (or whatever they called it)? I did a Lost Sector boss and it gave me 2% out of a 100% so I shelved that quest for a bit.

I ran Escalation Protocol a few times. Even though I didn't clear the waves, I still got like 40% progress on that step each time because it sends so many elites at you.

Someone hit Glory rank 3 today. They said it took 86 straight games. Not a single loss. So imagine how long it will take a regular player. Hahaha. Holy shit. And that's not even max rank. The grind is real.

Sleeper folks, tell me, please - it's just as awesome as it was in D1, right? Got the same OOMPH sound, same thick laser, same power?

If it's just a fuckin' exotic Tarantula, I will flip tables.

I'm pretty confused by the Heroic Strike playlist changes in context of the way the gear drops were altered. Heroic Strikes were made even more pointless as a stepping stone to the other side of the soft cap instead of serving as a better bridge. Other than the milestone there isn't even a reason to look at them now, and even that milestone feels like it is now harder than the Nightfall milestone, which is far less of a PL requirement and only requires one completion. What the fuck happened?

Rise of Iron felt like they'd finally found a decent progression arc to the light system, and yet every season since in Destiny 2 it's felt messed up in some way that doesn't even really make a lot of sense. Escalation Protocol doesn't really factor into the discussion since the floor for that mode is even farther beyond the soft cap than Heroic Strikes. It's essentially a mode where a significant chunk of the player base isn't even going to pay attention to its existence for weeks, other than being an annoying delay on their Public Events on Mars. Why wasn't part of the goal for an entirely new mode to get everyone into circulation on it within the first week, when the player base was returning for the DLC release?

The studio feels like it needs serious help parsing feedback on this topic because these progression changes don't feel like they've served anyone. It feels even more stuck in the "play for a day, log out for a week" loop that has been murdering player engagement since release.

IGN's review in progress currently has their score at 6.0. They gave Curse of Osiris a 5.5. So it's a bit better.

I'm pretty shocked that the new mode that is basically set up for grinding gear is too high a light level to use to grind gear.

Well not shocked, but definitely disappointed. I mean, this is why we have heroic mode as an option. It's just such an odd choice that once you complete the story you're back to grinding the same old stuff so you can play the new event close to the proper light level.

I didn't realize they buffed the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps to be a guaranteed reload on melee instead of just a chance. The best hunter exotic from D1 just got betterest. <3

What's up with this progression system? I feel like I've hit a brick wall at 345. My last two powerful engrams have given me gear at my level which doesn't help at all. Makes me not even want to keep playing if it's not going to get me anywhere. Or does some other way of raising your light level work better now? Getting everything too easily like it was before wasn't all that fun but I'd 100% prefer that over this.

Coming back to Destiny with my vanilla as fuck character. Are these Karnstein Armlets any good after they've updated things? Been thinking about switching to Winter's Guile instead or Nezarec's Sin.

My wife and I finished the campaign in under 2 hours. Definitely more fun than CoO, but man it's over so fast.

Yea it's pretty lame solo. Just trounced unless you actually get a decent team but like I said above a few posts ago half the time your team mates quit. It's a pretty atrocious system for solo players.

It's the most frustrating part of the Season 3 changes for me so far. There's absolutely no way any solo player can win these games against a stacked team. You can literally stand and watch randoms throw themselves repeatedly against a team of four stood together. You only need 1 fool and the game is pretty much a guaranteed loss.

There's a bug with the Clan XP milestone rewarding a "fake" powerful engram. Perhaps that's what you ran into?

I just ran a normal mode leviathan raid and it increased my light level quite a bit. We did it optimized by skipping castellum and underbelly until beating Calus, then returned to do castellum, turned that in, and then returned to grab the underbelly chests (which can reward an Exotic at powerful levels although the normal legendaries are not).

Raiding is definitely the best way to raise your light level right now. You'll progress more slowly without raiding for sure but milestones like Flashpoint, Nightfall, and Call to Arms will let you raise your level a bit each week.
