I very much appreciated them asking for feedback.

I expressed my strong distaste for the way all female characters have been portrayed so far, and humbly requested that they please be changed to be less provocative and sexualized. With the way everyone else seems to feel (opposite), I doubt this will ever happen.

I spoke my honest opinion, and at least know I tried to make a difference for the better. As it currently stands, I doubt I will play this game.
If you've got this survey doesn't that mean you backed this Kickstarter? You're getting this game either way aren't you?

Yep, I sure have. Backed at a high tier as well. But I've just been so incredibly disappointed with the way female characters and enemies have been presented so far that I can't respectfully see myself playing let alone enjoying this.

I've been playing and enjoying a lot of games I particular problems with. Here's hoping everything else is great and evens out whatever problem we have with female depictions. All in all, save for these potential optional outfits, i don't think Miriam is a bad representation. I mean she's not the best but she's not bad. At least not so far. The same thing I can't say about the rest tho.

OH
Valkyrie, succubus, vampire, and matching existing accessories. I'm curious about what corrupted would look like, though.
Kind of hard to vote costumes without seeing concepts. Angel could be cool or boring, and demon seems vague.
On the subject of costumes, I chose:

Valkyrie (armoured)
Angel
Demon
Vampire (elegant)
Other: Shanoa-esque costume.
I first pictured elegant vampire as being Shanoa-esque, but I guess that'd be more like a woman version of Dracula. Shanoa is more like... a light-armored knight crossed with a witch?

I guess I'll go with other: witch (long black hair).

The survey is open to anyone including non-backers.

This strikes me as hyperbole? It's one thing to say "I'm not a big fan of Design A or Design B and I'd probably tweak them if I were in charge" but "this game is now unplayable to me" is a bit much? The biggest "offender", Vepar, has already been tweaked and whatever your opinion of the designs of Miriam, Dominique or Bloodless, none of them are some egregious deviation from what we saw in the Castlevania series or can be seen in most gothic horror IP.

I cant speak for whatever extra outfits that may or may not come later but I insist that Miriam's default design is actually pretty decent. Not the best but as far as female protagonists in Japanese games go you can do much, much, MUCH worse. I mean they had the decency of giving her some kind of slacks to use below her skirt. How easy could it have been to just have her in a tiny skirt even if she would never flash her panties to us?

I like the villagers artwork! It's simple but nice to look at. And the gameplay teaser seems to suggest they've increased the movement speed?

Guys. This is an important update. We have less than a month to A) slack back this game, B) change, if you want, the platform of choice for the game and C) choose what platform you want the mini game for.

Don't sleep on this one. Spread the word.

I love this slacker backer method. Now to decide if the collector's box tier is worth it for me. But then I might want to upgrade further to the signed tier...
(Alhough, I'm fine with just the artbook and soundtrack.)

Where is the survey from before where you can change your platform option?

Edit: figured it out. I changed from Vita to Switch so I'm all set now

Development Update - Quests and a Mini-Game Update (Plus Important Platform Deadline Information)

Greetings, Army of the Night! For April's development update the team has put together a look at the quest system that Miriam will be able to use to help the villagers who've survived the emergence of the demon castle.

Here's IGA to introduce it! (Also, scroll down for important information about deadlines to choose your platform for the main game and the mini-game.)

4b7a34c724544825ec7e3d7d4410f780_original.jpg

Hello everyone, this is IGA.

For this month's update we would like to explain the quest feature. We've already shown you the village where Dominique and Johannes have opened their shop and alchemy room, respectively. The village was destroyed by the demons from the castle, but the remaining villagers have gathered in a safe haven nearby. These people have their own troubles—let's help them out!

The Bloodstained quest system (with mocked-up English text overlay)
Let's take a look at Lindsay, and the troubles she's facing. She holds a grudge against the demons that killed her close friends. In order to avenge their deaths, she asks Miriam to kill certain types of demons. She might even ask her to kill a rare demon... She has a habit of saying, "Kill that murderer dead!" There are other villagers like her that need our help. Let's help these villagers and obtain rewards.

I'd also like to update you on the retro mini-game. There have been some changes from the time we started the Kickstarter campaign; originally, the mini-game was supposed to be a story that took place 10 years prior to the main game, but we've decided to have it take place in a different part of the lore.

The story for the mini-game was developed based on the world of Bloodstained, but it should be enjoyed separately as a spin-off rather than a prequel story. We will have more details very soon, so please look forward to it. [Fangamer note: Mini-game platforms are now unlocked in eligible reward surveys! Please choose your platform as soon as possible.]

I would also like to take this opportunity to tell you about another project. My friend and fellow game developer Swery is currently gathering funds for his own Kickstarter project, the Good Life. I don't need to tell you about this guy's incredible talent—please take a look at his project!

Some villagers: Lindsay, Benjamin, Harry, Abigail, and Suzy
ArtPlay also passed along another look at an enemy you'll cross paths with: Decarabia.

For this month's last word, here's a status report from 505 Games's Roberto Piraino! Take it away:

Hey everybody, I'm absolutely blasted away at the overwhelming response we got from the Bloodstained Feedback Survey; it's barely been a week and we've already received tens of thousands of submissions, with every question coming in at a 95% completion rate or above! Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to fill it out! The survey will be open until the end of the month so if you haven't had a chance to fill it out don't miss your opportunity to be heard on lots of different subjects.

I've already seen plenty of discussion surrounding the survey questions, and I'm sure everyone is anxious to know what the survey revealed and what we'll do with the results. We plan on releasing much more of the gathered data in the near future, but for now I'd like to share with you an important announcement:

We will officially be closing all Kickstarter / Fangamer related fundraising after May 14th at 1pm Pacific Time US. This means that after Monday, May 14th, 2018, backing Bloodstained on the Fangamer portal will no longer be possible.

After Friday, May 18th, 2018 existing backers will also no longer be able to change the platform for which you have ordered/pledged your copy of Bloodstained or the side-story mini-game, so please finalize your platform selection soon! (The reward survey previously didn't contain a platform-selection option for the side-story mini-game, so even if you're all set with your reward survey you haven't filled one out yet!)

You will still be able to update basic information like your shipping address. If you need to edit your reward survey for any reason, click on the link in your original order confirmation e-mail; if you don't have your reward survey link handy, click here to get it sent to you again or ask any other questions you might have.

Everyone at ArtPlay and 505 Games wants to thank each and every one of you who have backed Bloodstained and helped make this game a reality. All your support has truly been astounding!

I like the jabs at Konami in the quests title: "Avenge the death of Richter."

All of the names listed in that set of quests are Castlevania characters. Simon, Richter and Julius Belmont obviously, as well as Annette, who is Richter's girlfriend in Rondo, and Rosary might be alluding to Rosaly who is Hector's dead wife in Curse of Darkness.

I was grossed out by how this game was looking early on and still not a huge fan of the art (although I forced myself to stomach DoS and PoR) but now I'm definitely getting the digital copy. Super starved for a proper metroidvania - almost everything out there save for a few games are improperly categorized as that.

You mean your third copy. I'd go for Switch over Vita easily. Vita is on life support and is the only platform that doesn't support UE4 out of the box so remains to be seen how that port will stack up vs the rest of the choices.

They have confirmed its coming out day and date.

If (and thats a big if because they havent said anything) there is a version in risk of launching at a later date its the Vita version. Switch is safe.

Thanks! I'm grabbing this one on switch so I can play it on the go.
At this point the Vita port has no way its going to recoup cost. If it wasn't already backed by Kickstarter I'd bet it would've been cancelled. In 2015, before the Switch was even announced, made sense but in 2018? It'll be the hardest version to port too since the platform doesnt support UE4 from the get-go.

you were charged when the campaign ended sometime in June of 2015. You shouldnt be charged for anything else unless you upgraded your pledge or something.

When is this out? This year?
Unless something unexpected happens, yes. They've said so, they just havent comitted to an exact date beyond 2018. Their announcement of they closing the slacker backer and the possibility for platform changes tell me they must be confident it is coming out this year.

Torn between PS4 and Switch version.

I feel like the PS4 version is safer and will look best. But it's a perfect portable game.

I cannot wait to hear Yamane's soundtrack. Hope it's good. Have they said how long it will be? are there deep rpg mechanics like SOTN?

I remember spending hours for rare drops on ps1 sotn. But I rnjoyed the grind. I hope this has plenty of secrets and content and lots of variety in combat like sotn.

Also I hope it's not too easy. In sotn I got to a point where I could defeat Dracula in literally 5 seconds.

Go through the last KS updates. They've gone in detail and theyve shown a handful of music tracks as well. How long in hours no one knows but one of the KS stretch goals was "Iga's biggest castle" so I guess in the "long" part of the Igavania spectrum?. Yes, there will be RPG mechanics. You haven't been following this game too much have you?

Have they given any info on the sword whip? Will it be overpowered or just a starting weapon?

Pondering because I'm not exactly in a good financial state at the moment (not really bad but would probably be a dumb idea to spend an extra 22 dollars on a game item) so was dilly dallying between the normal and digital premium at the moment.

Thats an interesting question we havent had an answer for AFAIK.

Originally the WiiU and Vita ports were announced to be handled by Armature because they would also adapt the UE4 for those two consoles in order for the game to run properly. Armature porting for Vita should be the same as when it was announced but now that the WiiU was dropped in favor of the UE4 capable Switch we dont know if its still Armature or if the main dev team is now on that.

Can I tell you what I'd do if I were you? You're already set on getting it for once portable system (Vita) why not make your second copy a safer bet in a more powerful home console like the PS4? If you wanna take the game on the go you already have it on Vita. Do you really need it on two portable consoles? I dont wanna risk any downgrades for this game on Switch as opposed to PS4.

Also have they confirmed Cross Save feature? If so all the more reason to go with a Vita & PS4 combo. Either that or I'd go PS4 and Switch but definitively not Vita & Switch.

Yeah my main reason for getting it on Vita is for collection purposes.

Will mainly play on either Switch or PS4 the version I bought has a physical and digital copy so I can have both versions.

If you haven't gotten a copy for PC or
a current gen console I would definitely consider it. I have a Vita physical copy picked out as my second (I added an extra) but I've still been waffling on whether to get a Switch copy instead.

Either way, gotta decide quick since platform choices lock within a week!

Just got a depressing email.

"We were recently informed that the Bloodstained Retro spin-off game will not be available on GOG. Please select a different platform (Steam, PS4, XB1, PS Vita, or Nintendo Switch) for your Retro spin-off game before the May 18th 2018 platform-selection deadline by clicking the "Access Your Backer Survey" button below, then clicking the "Change Your Survey Answers" link.

By default, your Retro spin-off game platform has been changed to Steam.

Keep in mind that this does not affect your choice of platform for the main game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which will still be available on GOG. We apologize for the trouble."

I wish we could have seen something on the spin off by now and footage/impressions of the main game on Switch, though maybe I'm just missing something. For now going Switch for spin off and Steam for main game, Inticreates has been awesome with Switch stuff, but UE4 is more of "can work" on Switch and I'd rather go for significantly higher fidelity.

(I don't actually own a Switch, but I see it as inevitable)

EDIT: Apparently the fact I backed two physical copies means I actually get the spin-off game on two platforms too. Too bad so little information about the spin-off game has been released.

That means GOG refused to sell the game, right? I can remember they also refused the latest game by the SpaceChem developer because it looked too much like a smart phone game according to them (though it looks like they eventually changed their mind as I see the game up on the site now).

Just backed.

Don't disappoint me, Igarashi. Again.
He hasn't been on Castlevania since 2008's Order of Ecclesia. So I don't know what you could have been disappointed by recently. If you want to go back to the past, you could be disappointed by the PS2 entries he made. He didn't handle 3D very well back in the day. The 2D entries on portables were always serviceable although some of them were completely forgettable because of how samey they were.

Ahasverus hates Iga, the decisions he made about the timeline, and doesn't like his DS games, except didn't bother to play Ecclesia. Then went back and played it and found it was great. Still hates Iga though lol

I'm still not convinced the Vita version will happen, it seemed unrealistic from day 1 (oh we'll just port UE4 to the Vita for this one game, piece of cake right?) and is only getting moreso as time moves on.
