Imagine a Cooking Mama / Labo crossover. Labo would sell like hot cakes...and then you'd make Labo hot cakes!
Too late.

Nintendo has a long history of stretching out their first-party releases. Totally believable they'll just clear out late 2018 and let Smash Bros. take the spotlight, save Pokemon for 2019/
As if smash can be the only big stuff for this fiscal year...
If it's not pokemon there'll be something else.

It's 2018FY for sure. The latest is March 2019.

They would have told investors if that were not the case by putting Pokémon as TBD.

Its not a fact of will it come out this year based on logic or anything like that, its the courage to believe it will come out this year.
Because courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality

Even without Pokemon we have the following potential titles in play:

Smash Bros.
Fire Emblem
Yoshi
Metroid Prime 4
Bayonetta 3
Retro Studios' Game
Animal Crossing
Pikmin 4

Some of these will be 2019, but some will definitely be 2018. The end of the year is going to be fine.

All that said, I really do expect Pokemon to make it out this year. It's clear that Nintendo absolutely will have it out within the fiscal year both to hit their 20M more unit goal and saying it was "2018 or later" from the start -- and they didn't alter that in the most recent investor meeting, which means it's now an expectation. So worst case it's March 2019, but I can't imagine them wanting to miss the Holiday season with it.

A gap is a gap. It's not that poor a comparison.

Ok, so let's say there's 26 weeks left until launch. Of those 26 weeks, 24 will have episodes (due to various breaks such as the July movie break and the week off after it for other shows to make up for their lost episode for the movie).

We have 4 upcoming episodes titled so that's 20 episodes.

In those 20 episodes, we need Mina's trial, Hapu's Grand Trial, the 6 episodes for Ultra Beasts individually as has been done thus far, the however many long thing for Necrozma and the league Kukui set up, as well as filling up Ash's team.

There's not enough time to do that.

It IS too soon for Generation VII to end. Literally nothing is indicating that other than "A Pokémon game coming to Switch" which isn't even guaranteed to be Generation 8
This is entirely based on the notion that it's coming out this year. If it releases in Q1 of 2019 they have a whole bunch more episodes to go.

No way in hell are they missing the holiday period. No generation has started outside of that 3 month window aside from the first

Gen 1: Feb 96
Gen 2: Nov 99
Gen 3: Nov 02
Gen 4: Sep 06
Gen 5: Sep 10
Gen 6: Oct 13
Gen 7: Nov 16

I felt those 4 years from gen 3 to gen 4 and gen 4 to gen 5. Those generations felt like it took forever. I'm glad we are now back to 3 years per generation.

But judging by this pattern, new gens happen every 3-4 years. Maybe that's why we keep hearing rumors for a Red/Blue remake/sequel? After RSE, Fire Red and Leaf Green were technically afterward, so having a remake sort of make sense if they go by order of release instead of by generation.

Years ago when we saw Ohmori was doing SuMo I said maybe Masuda is already working on Gen 8.

Unless this was true, I'm still firmly team 2019.

That being said, we still have to clear e3. I know it's never usually announced at e3 but they technically already broke that tradition last year. In fact, since that's where they announced it, that's exactly where I expect the title reveals

The odds of Pokemon (Switch) missing the holidays are slim-to-none.
What's the evidence for this? So far the only indication we have is that the game is listed as "2018 or later" in Nintendo's quarterly report, but I suspect they wouldn't have added the "or later" part if they knew for sure they would make the holidays.

It's less 'I have evidence' and more 'I know this a thing'

I find it amusing people have trouble at the thought of Pokémon getting released this year yet have absolutely no problem that an unannounced hypothetical Animal Crossing or some other game could.

Sad, Emily even needed to say this. It was a guarantee.

Yeah. I do think that Nintendo has likely been putting the pressure on ole Game Freak to get this game done ASAP in order to have a huge holiday boost for the Switch. I mean Pokemon is a really strong game to have come out in the Switch's second year. Surefire way to keep the momentum going.

I appreciate the (possible?) tip, Emily.

I'd argue there's a pretty big difference between a game that hasn't had a major new entry in 6 years to one that had one less than 2 years ago, but yeah there's little doubt left now, at least based on all the leaks and teases.

All I know is that Nintendo wont hit their software sales target with just Smash. If Pokémon does not make 2018 they will need animal crossing and a few other big games (Metriod, retro's new game) to hit that target.

People are getting tired of pokemon, which is why sales are up, even for Remakes and third versions which usualy sell more to the Hardcore base.

The whole 3DS generation was a huge mess, which is why total sales for Pokemon games on 3DS exceed total pokemon sales on GBA, and come close to DS on half the installbase.

And the last sentence is just delusional, even without GO, pokemon still has several successful other branches with huge reach, such as the movies, the anime, the infinite merch and the successful games.
Actually, the movies were struggling at the box office until last year, and the anime is at its lowest in terms of critical reception and isn't doing all too hot in the Japanese ratings

So, I heard there was going to be some cardboard eating. Is uh... Is that still a thing cause I don't want to miss that.

Does it have to be labo cardboard cause I just had a desk delivered and I'm trying to get rid of this big ass box. Just saying, if a more "natural" recycling option is available then maybe I could send it over and take advantage of that.

The animes ratings are constantly in the top ten in animations, well at least for the Kanto Region.
I was referring to the ratings numbers, not its position. It's a shadow of what it used to be. Beating Yokai Watch isn't exactly a thing to brag about in this day.

In any case, the anime has no say on when Pokémon Switch or any other Pokémon game gets released. The anime can get rushed or extended with fillers if necessary (and in any case, will end with Ash losing all of his Pokémon except for Pikachu, while everyone gets removed, making their existence pointless filler) to accommodate for the release of the games. I wouldn't use it to say when Pokémon Switch gets released.

Actually the anime's ratings are solid and higher than the average given in X & Y and the end of Best Wishes. It routinely hits the anime top 10 each week.
