That interview is also what I was largely referencing when I said his views on it seem to be in line with the Norwegian court/legal system and I can understand that. Were I in his position I don't think I would personally play with Faust but I can kind of see where he's coming from. I also understand what he's saying when he says if you have a family member or someone close to you do something horrible it's a different thing than someone where that's all you know. And that stuff shouldn't really be expected to affect enjoyment of the art because, let's face it, a lot of art is made by horrible people. I'm not saying you can't have it affect you. Just that it's understandable that it doesn't for some.

From his perspective that really is probably how the industry is, at least Black Metal. The history of that and especially from his perspective is pretty controversial. I can see why he would say you can't have black metal without the tsort of thing because... well... that's where it started. Yes you can find black metal bands that didn't do horrible shit, but you can't really outright ignore the foundation of the entire genre, I don't think.

In any case I can respect not wanting to listen to him or thinking he's questionable. I don't knock you one bit for it. Personally I think Ihsahn himself is divorced enough for my comfort. I do have a bit of an issue giving money to people like Varg and I'd probably not want to go see Emperor with someone like Faust in the lineup. We all have our lines I guess.

Well said. Black metal definitely has some dark roots for sure, but then again band's like Immortal went through the same period and knew the same people but never got caught up in it that I'm aware.

Furthering the discussion a bit, what comes of someone like Phil Anselmo who made some very inappropriate gestures and rightfully got called on it. Do we now burn the collective works he's a part of? I'm pretty partial to Pantera, Down's Nola and I'm looking to buy the Scour material. However, my absolute hard line is anything NS collectively or people like Varg specifically. So Phil's thing gets on my fuzzy edge as does Taake. I will say that a cd purchase doesn't really get much money back to the artist typically so that is a much easier pill to swallow than say running around in a band shirt showing them off or going to a concert.

his vocals on pretty much everything but especially Vermillion Stars and Choirs of Vice are UNREAL. Some of the greatest black metal vocals ever I have to say.

it looks like BTC took down Where the Sun Is Silent from their Bandcamp so I'm posting this version of the cover if anyone might have some use for it. This has been my phone background for like two years now lol.

mandatory knowledge for black metal fans.

That Split with Bone Awl is absolutely FANTASTIC!
Sometimes i feel BTC suffers from having too many bands and some get forgotten like Dolorvotre and Muknal. But i guess i can't complain with the steadly flow of Arizmenda releases so far.

Watching live videos from the Slayer concert last night
Never have I been so excited for a concert, everyone gets at least an hour set and everyone is on point.

Oh shiiiit, really? Even Behemoth?

Seeing them at the end of this month. Man that's gonna end late, lol. I hope the subway will still be open. Lamb of God is the only band on that list that I don't care about, I might step out during that time. But an hour of Behemoth, Anthrax, Testament and Slayer each sounds pretty nice.

I'm only a bit worried about the venue. Apparently it's kind of a crappy one. I guess the usual proper venues were taken for that date.

Doors open at 4, first band goes on at 5, Slayer comes on at about 9:20 I think. Then yeah everyone else gets around an hour give or take 5-10 minutes with Slayer probably going until 11.

Im probably going to be front row so there wont be any stepping out but I like all the bands so I don't mind. Just hope my VIP ticket lets me buy merch early, get stuff signed then head to the front.

The venue im headed to is good, has a small ish GA but I consider that a good thing, less dickheads crowdsurfing

I've seen the set times. I think the hour per band includes change over. So more like 40 minutes for Testament, Behemoth and Anthrax. Hour+ for LOG and hour and a half+ for Slayer

Song of the Day:

Pan.Thy.Monium - The Battle of Geeheeb

This is one of the weirder ones. I don't know if I actually like the song, but I have always found it eminently fascinating to listen to.

Have a great weekend.

One of my favorite albums. Truly unique and the production on it is amazing, fucking crisp, heavy, and atmospheric.

If you didn't see it, new Immortal tune went up on YouTube and its pretty good if you ask me.

Its amazing..like back to the really old shizz(pre heart of winter).I was really indifferent to the last few Immortal albums, and abbaths solo stuff has been pretty trash, kinda surprised this is such a return to form.Even the vox are pretty decent..the riffs tho amazeballz, frantic pace of the old stuff with modern production still kinda shocked its so good lmao

Oh, that's quite different then. Still a long concert, but a full hour each would have been... quite something.

Not into this all that much. I'm way more into the later era of Immortal than the early stuff, so my response probably isn't surprising. Those crushing cold riffs and epic songs. There's nothing in this track even approaching that. It feels more like generic black metal than Immortal.

Maybe I'll come around to it. But I don't know.

Song of the day

Old but gold.

Hmm, got to say I'm not that big on that new Immortal tune. I've always liked the later part of the Abbath era most. Not a bad song by any means, but a bit meh in my opinion.

Slayer, Obituary, Anthrax and Lamb of God playing near me soon. Funnily enough I'm not even that bothered about going. I saw Slayer with the classic lineup with Mastodon, Hatebreed and Slipknot (ugh..) in like 2004. Not a fan of Anthrax, Lamb of God or Obituary really so seems like a waste of time, but apparently it's Slayer last tour?

Yep it's supposedly Slayer's last tour. I'm going because I've never seen them live and my son wants to go. Don't particularly care for Lamb of God, Anthrax is ok, and Behemoth I don't really know much of. Testament is the band I'm most looking forward to which kinda stinks since they are first openers.

Going to Obituary, Pallbearer, Skeletonwitch, and Dust Bolt on Tuesday. Much more excited for that one.

I might go just for Slayer, although they've released a lot of stuff I'm not too bothered about since 2004 - but if it's their last tour I'd imagine they'd play a lot of the classics. Testament would be rad and I have not heard Skeleton Witch since their Permafrost LP!

These are the wrong way around no? Heart of winter onwards were pretty safe and lacking the frenzy of their classics

Yeah man just saying about Testament! Early LoG is pretty good, I turned off when they released that record with the purple cover. Imagine my shock when I heard a new song by them the other week where there was clean singing it haha

Dunno i think they are pretty bad, like the era they got big in was kinda bad for metal(at leasts mainstream/well known bands ),but they were deffo not one of the stronger bands IMO.Fink i seen then like 3/4 times live as support act, each time i came away from those gigs just thinking 'This Dude on vox is really bad',all he had were really whiney cleans on tracks i knew had 'harsh' vox

Kinda rubs me the wrong way they are the main support ahead of Anthrax on Slayers last tour tbh.

Either way u should go if you can,Slayers final tour is a pretty big deal

Fair one, I always think of shit like 11th Hour and Ruin and I think they're decent songs, although to be honest I'm not really into anything else of that style/era. I've never seen them live. You're right about seeing Slayer's final tour, I should go!

Like i dont totally detest them or anything, they done their part and got a lot of folk into the genre after all,but i dont think in 10-15 years they gonna be remembered as greats or anything. But yea deffo go see Slayer, seen em 3 times myself, always a killer set pplus this time it should be special! Chemical Warfare as the closer or riot!

Depends, As the Palaces Burn is actually 15 years old but that's about where I'd stop with them, not fussed on anything since then. I was in a band about ten years ago and we'd cover Black Magic and for some reason we would play the beginning of Among the Living as an intro haha. You're right about the billing, I'm not a massive fan of Anthrax by any means, but Lamb of God shouldn't be above them.

I never really played any instruments, but all my friends who did and were in bands as kids were playing Deathcrush(Mayhem)/Arise(Sepultura)/Leprosy(Death) ect to fill out their sets, prob had a big influence on my tastes lmao Edit: And that was the early 2000's,we mostly ignored the modern bands at that time hahaha

Muknal was actually the first BTC band I heard and I was all in on that pick sliding black death madness, would love more. A new Dolorvotre LP is 100% my most wanted release from these guys, with Axeman a close second.

not sure if you know of Odz Manouk, who are technically Rhinocervs and not BTC, but they are apparently working on a new LP and I couldn't be more excited about it. Odz Manouk-Tukaaria is a fantastic split.

Sacrament was a top tier record. Saldy, the last few albums havent got the magic of the early stuff.

Great band though, in my opinion. Vocals, drums and guitar riffs are all excellent in those early albums, should be required listening for any metal fan.

I was jamming Painkiller yesterday and Night Crawler came up which at various points has been my favorite Priest tune so I thought it would make a good selection for today. Then I ran across the Powerwolf cover of it and with their upcoming album, figured perfect. So today is Powerwolf's cover of Night Crawler. Enjoy!

Now that I'm sober again, most drinking songs in Metal....kind of suck unless they are done in a Folk/traditional style. I've never heard of a good extreme metal drinking song.

Any of you give the new YOB leak a spin? Whew, shit is making me sweat.
