Just got home with the 55in and ran tests. From my untrained eyes, I don't see any dead pixels or vertical banding. There is a tiny thing of DSE, but you can't even see it during gaming. Going to check a few movies soon. What HDR settings do you guys recommend for gaming and movies?

Tried ordering the 55" from BB back in late April when they first showed up on bestbuy.com. At the time it said they would have it delivered on May 2nd, but just hours after ordering it I got an email that I needed to reschedule the delivery and all the dates were about 2 weeks out, so I just canceled. Since then the TV has never show as "in-stock" at my nearest store and the "delivered by" date was always 4-7 days out. Checked in again today and it was showing as "pick-up today" at the store, or delivery as soon as tomorrow. A few hours ago I ordered it and tried scheduling delivery for tomorrow afternoon, and so far it seems like it will actually come this time. Still showing as scheduled for tomorrow and I got a automated call confirming the appointment just a bit ago. Currently have a very early Vizio 4K TV with no HDR. Mostly I have been happy with it over the past two years, but it has a slight high pitch sound that constantly comes out the back near the ports (can only hear it when you are really close, but still annoying) and it seems like the composite video connection no longer works. Excited to see some HDR!

Speaking of $50. Whats up with Best Buy's pricing? I thought the 65 was supposed to be $950? I want my 50 bucks...

It's a hot product, there is no reason for Best Buy to drop the price over some remote features. They could charge 1050 and get it (especially if they actually have it in stock unlike other vendors).

So the answer is Best Buy would like to keep 50 extra dollars in their pocket, since everybody wants this TV anyway. It seems via a TCL statement BB may get pressured into dropping the price 30, but they'll do it reluctantly and slowly I'm sure.

Anything more to report with DSE? It's my one major concern with purchasing one of these.

Got mine in today and it looks great! Couple questions for you all:

For those using the CNET bright room setting and I reading it right that they just changed it to brighter, movie, auto and kept everything else as default?

Does game mode still disable local dimming? Anything else known that it disables? Do you all always leave it in game mode when playing all games? Or are most games fine to play without game mode?

Is this a solid choice for a 65" 4K TV if someone doesn't care about the Roku features? I use an Apple TV 4K for everything, and doubt I will ever need to use the Roku interface.

Don't think anyone answered me before but is it lacking without the remote? If so I don't mind springing for the $50 more version but it seems to me I'd be fine with a third party remote or just picking one up from amazon

Here's a video of Some Mario Odyssey sky footage. Considering exchanging mine... I don't know if I want to deal with that, but I also don't want to get something worse.

No, I think voice on this remote is kinda crap. If you're familiar, the voice on xfinity remotes is leagues better. Definitely not worth $50.

Input lag is not good without game mode enabled, at least on ports 1 and 2. DK jumping in a minecart felt like he had to heave himself up before he jumped. With it enabled is really nice. Especially for platformers.

Has anyone run into an issue where video from any app won't play? I hear audio, but I don't see video. This is just happened to me & I don't know what's wrong.

I owned the 605P TV for about 7 months and watched plenty of streaming movies, cable TV and played Xbox x HDR games on it. Yesterday I pulled the trigger on the R615. (Wanted to hold out for 2018 Vizio P reviews but with using this for gaming quite a bit, I trust the low input lag of TCL)
Anyway, Fired up this 615 puppy last night and tried DV Vudu/Netflix streams, cable TV 1080p, HDR Amazon, and many Xbox x enhanced games.

All I can say is wow... Definitely worth the upgrade. Better colors, contrast, HDR and most importantly it does not dim the entire screen as the 605p does when using Local Dimming. It actually increases the highlights while darkening dark areas. Disclaimer I sit 6' away directly in front, in a dimmly lit room with backlighting. Off angle viewing is about the same and if you have never had a 4k HDR tv then I'd say you would be just as happy with the 605p. But if in budget and available R615 is worth it. Got my P up for sale already so I was sold on the update within 15 minutes

So Amazon gives me 10% for the 2 week delay. Then cancels my order and quotes over a month.

I don't even..

Yikes. My bestbuy order was completely broken. Rescheduled 4 times the day before delivery. Appatently it showed a hold was on the order so the warehouse wouldn't proceed with shipping (when support told me no hold and everything was good to go). Talked to countless people/departments until they finally told me they couldn't fix the problem and advised me to cancel the order. No stock locally now until early June. I guess it's 1080p for a while longer.

AVS Forum review:

http://www.avsforum.com/first-look-tcl-65-6-series-4k-hdr-roku-tv-dolby-vision/

extremely positive like last years. albeit he didn't talk about uniformity in either reviews.

its funny when you can tell the crossposts here and on avs ;)
Good review and very positive. No mention or uniformity like you said or DSE.

I'm still torn between this set and waiting for the 2018 Vizio P series. Vizio likely has much higher quality control but this seems like such a good value. I just get nervous I'm going to get a dud and don't want to deal with exchanging. :/

There's major banding on that screen but it you can't see it don't look it up. Once you start learning what all these TV screen defects are you'll always notice them. You'll likely notice them on your own TV too.

I kinda agree with this. All of these TVs have some issue (large or small) whether its uniformity or banding, etc.

I watched that video multiple times and shrugged my shoulders at it. Didn't look as major as some other banding issues I've seen.

I know very little when it comes to TV's, but does my panel look fine? I just ran a Vertical banding vid on youtube app and didnt notice anything major. Only little issue is the corners are dim.

Cross posting here from the TV thread but does anyone specific details on the 50DP648.

I can see similar models https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/brand/fe6b14 here but none that match exactly.

I want to know if the UK versions will be HDR/Dolby Vision and 10 bit.

I'm expecting them not to be as they are like £600 for a 55" TV when they go on sale on amazon but info is very slim

Did you upgrade to the 65?

TCL Europe gonna manufacture / distribute these? Also I imagine the input lag can be firmware patched ( unless it's already been addressed)?

Got my 65R615 yesterday, loving it, but found a weird bug that I can't tell is the TV or PS4. When I'm on the home menu on my PS4 without a game started (And not scrolled up to the settings area), if I hold the Home button and go down to the Online Status menu, my screen blacks out and comes back pink with the words Dolby Vision in the top right. Is this happening to anyone else? It immediately goes away when I leave that menu.

Game mode makes the picture look noticeably worse on the 2017 model. But the latency with it off on 2018 is just too much.

Wat? I hardly noticed a difference on mine. Was this affected by a firmware update or something?

It's been awhile but I thought many members on AVSforum said game mode didn't impact image quality hardly at all on the P series.

They are the same thing, just different stand and bezel color.

I don't think you can get a C7 for $1200 even through greentoe. 1300 sure. Premium for the black bezel essentially.

Unless you know something I don't or you're looking at scam sellers on Google.

Greentoe? Can ibuse purchase price protection on that?

After buying a cosmetically defected open box MU7000 which was beautiful btw and best buy allowing me to exchange it. I picked up the NU7100, it was really a compulsive buy since I had gone through so much trouble just to return the previous tv.
Now that I've looked around and read, I'm set on the 55" R615. I'll be returning my Samsung this week since I didn't open it and pick this one up. I'm excited to see how this one turns out.

Yes, because you will get the invoice from whatever authorized reseller they use. The authorize reseller is also who will charge your card. They are essentially a middleman who negotiates for you, and presumably they are getting some percentage from the reseller.
