Here's the way I look at it. The OLEDs have a "tax" versus the Vizio's / TCLs etc. They aren't worth 2-3x more for the majority of the viewing public. But people use their TVs a lot, and if you want the best, go OLED. My opinion.
Yeah I see what you're saying. It's going to be something that lasts me for years so I'd rather pay a premium now and be happier a few years down the line.

Me too. I believe in doing this for things you spend a lot of time with (e.g. TV, bed, car if you're a commuter, etc). Let us know what you pick!
Will do. I have some employee stock options at work that just vested and things are going well so I just sold them. Should have the cash soon.

And before anyone asks, most of it will be used for responsible things like paying down student loans. Sometimes you have to treat yourself.

You shouldn't judge a panel without running a few algorithm cycles at first.

Yeah guess it could help some, but mine was the same from the very first day, to now.

55"

I thought the 2018s had better uniformity :\ at least there's no tinting.

I've run one manual cycle, doesn't the TV do it automatically every night anyway?

This is mine, and I notice the lines on plenty of content, I can only imagine that huge dark one you've got.

Difference in camera have an impact too.
His picture is not terrible, there's just the on dark band and it's near the edge.
Dark bands are not the worst offenders, it only affect very dark content with panning shot.
The worst bands are the very light ones who don't show in 5% greyscale but will on every uniform background.
Don't know about the C8, but I had the chance to test three C7 and from what I've seen, I would keep Tamerlane's TV.

So what's the final word on these LG OLEDs like the B7/C7, etc. actually suffering from permanent burn-in? I'm looking at the RTings videos that seem to confirm it can happen depending on the content. My worry is that between a mix of gaming UIs/Netflix/Plex that this could actually be an issue.

I just packed up my brand new LG B7 into my car to exchange it. What a pain in the ass all round with this TV. The design is nearly impossible to carry alone. And two I can't believe an almost $3000 TV gives me trouble, when I've bought cheap TV's my whole life and haven't had one single issue. My last Sony lasted me 10 years without an issue and still keeps going.

This is what happened after a week with it randomly.

Did you read the manual before setting up the TV?

Yes, why do you ask? Reading the manual is going to help me with a stuck or dead pixel in the middle of the screen? The pixel refresher was run 3 times and it didn't fix it.

and yes, I've had help carrying the TV.

I think he's referring to the fact that you're annoyed you can't carry a very large TV alone.
Yes. It clearly states in the short set up manual: ''Please carry the TV with two persons only.'' (Or something like that)
Sorry about that pixel issue tho. This should not happen. LG should invest more in their QA. DSE, vignetting, tints, near black banding, stuck pixels...

I spent a few hours with my parents' 55" TCL 6 series this weekend. It's a great set, obviously incredible when price is factored in.

Pristine content looks amazing. Their set is very uniform, has deep blacks and gets bright enough to make HDR pop. It doesn't do HDR justice like an OLED, the Q9FN, Z9D, etc, but it's noticeably more "real" than SDR.

Didn't do any gaming on it as I only have my PS3 over there to act as their Blu Ray player. I'm going to get them a dedicated player though.

Biggest issue I have with the 6 series is that it seems to be doing absolutely nothing in the upscaling department. Cable looked a bit rough when compared to content on Netflix, for example. To be expected but the drop off was severe.

Overall, I'd say I'm super impressed. If I had an immediate need for a set and didn't want to go all in on an OLED yet, I'd highly recommend it.

I understand that. But even just getting the TV stand on the TV requires two people. I live alone and it's difficult to get people to help.

Yeah I understand...and it sucks you had that issue. Hopefully your next panel is better

So, I just discovered a new feature that I didn't even know this tv (LG OLED C7) had...true 120hz, but only in 1080. I just played some Overwatch at 120 and it felt amazing. I love the colors and crispness of 4k too much to go back, but it did look very good,

It can happen to every device you buy.
They are still mass produced and a few units will unfortunately have to be replaced within the return period.
It's not worth to be angry over it. Think about your brand new TV that will replace this bad one!

But I'm now worried about all of OLEDS issues. I keep seeing all this shit about burn in. And with my pixel issue, I'm seriously debating just returning it and getting a cheaper Non-OLED set. Maybe LG just doesn't have good QC?

It's that or they just want to push out the bad panels. There are some unacceptable ''premium product'' panels out there.

UK.

55"
AF8 - £2499
C8 - £2999 (albeit with a £300 redeem offer currently)

Edit - the B8 is the same as the Sony above, so I was off slightly.

Either way, Sony seem to have priced decently here, although their sets don't traditionally plummet in price as the LGs do.

I wouldn't buy a new model anyway right now, as the B7/C7 can be had for £1400 or less.

How in the world did you find this thread with that budget and wind up with an MU7000? The TCL 6 series is the only TV anyone should consider at this price, it is universally recommended by every review outlet and calibrator. The R615 is what you're looking for at Bestbuy, it's the 2018 model, $599 msrp.

Funny, not sure but OP did have a few affordable recommendations. Thanks though, based on your recommendation of TCL R615 I looked into it and I'll be returning my un7100 for this one instead.

I need to set aside some time and watch my Starship Troopers 4K disc that I got during a time I was really busy so I haven't gotten to watch it yet.

Hell f-ing yes. Great news. Can't wait, was hoping that release would be good.

for best 4K presentation:

Nice, got this but was too busy to watch it at the time, I need to set aside some time and give this disc a watch.

This "mastered in 4k" label from those Sony movies sure as hell is confusing and misleading. As those are normal blurays and not UHD ones. Nearly bought one on ebay but dodged the bullet.

This happened to my first B6 panel. Thankfully I was able to work through a pickup/dropoff of the old and new model with Amazon. I only noticed the pixel suicide at first because of the narrow aspect ratio of Lord of the Rings - was able to spot that sucker from a mile away.

I dread having to move this thing alone.

I had to replace my C7 as soon as I got it, so I understand perfectly how you must feel.
Cheaper non oled sets have also a lot of QC issues too.
You're thinking that because you got one faulty set, there's a higher probability of having another one,but it's the other way around. There's even less chance to get two bad panels in a row.

Anyone have thoughts on this TV? It's right at the tip of my price range at $2500, and is the size I want. I just can't find any information about it other than what is on their site. Are LG IPS generally OK for things like input lag?

If you need 75" with a budget of $2500 (and you care about gaming stuff) I'd go with the Samsung UN75NU8000. It will receive a firmware update later this year to support VRR over HDMI.

It's edge lit, but with that budget at 75", everything will be. It's at least a VA panel though, unlike the IPS of that LG. IPS on a TV is poop.

I bought a 65" A8F on Friday. I put it in the bedroom. A little extra, but fuck if it isn't awesome at night. Saw The Last Jedi and Jumanji, but honestly,I spent the majority of the weekend binge watching the cropped in version of The Sopranos on Amazon video. Even then, I was shocked by how good the show looked. I believe in the power of the X1 extreme lol.

OK. My holdup with the NU8000 was the lack of Dolby Vision.

Sony's upscaling has really impressed me even on my X800D. It's one of the things making me go back and forth between a B7 and 930E.

Ah. Somewhat of a bummer, true... but (imo) Dolby Vision doesn't do much for edge lit displays anyway. The picture is always going to be a bit washed out. Only way around that is OLED or FALD, which you're not gonna find at 75" in that price range.

If gaming is the only consideration, go with the NU8000. If you also want a solid picture for movies... maybe consider getting a higher quality set at 65" instead. You can easily get a 65" OLED on your budget, and even save some money if you're persistent.

Okay so I just bought a 55" XE9005. Ideally would have preferred the 49" since the 55" might be a bit big since it's for the bedroom, but it was out of stock. Thought about the XE9305, but it wohld have been about £300 more, and at the point I may as well have went for an OLED.

Anyway the reason for posting. Once I get the TV in a couple days is there anything I need to do? Not the most experienced with this stuff. Do I just put it on the recommended settings on RTINGS and leave it at that, or is there more? Only issue I have is most Warm/Expert coulour stuff seems too yellow and dull, compared to neutral where the blues and reds pop more and everything seems more vibrant. Is that something I should just get used to agter a while?
I recently got same tv and i just followed this video for the most part.

tho i did set the motion flow film mode to high. And while neutral and warm pops more to me expert 1 gives me less eye strain and just in general once you adjust looks good.

As a holder of LG55b7v, I must say that I am fully satisfied both with the quality of the panel and with the input lag to play even particularly demanding titles such as fighting games. I would never go back.

If I were to go with something like the LG OLED series, is it worth the extra $100 to get the C-series over the B-series?

Not for the 2017 sets (7 series). B7 is best bang for your buck.

Not sure about the 2018's. I think I read about there being more substantial differences between the B8 and C8 this time around. Could be wrong though.
