Is that red stone drama in relation to cbs trying to buy their mothership (Viacom)?

Or is it related to the absolute craziness related to stock voting for cbs (I'll get the normal "vote with this tool", and then another "don't vote like they recommend vote like this instead" in the mail)

It's insane
IIRC, Redstone said that if CBS and Viacom don't merge soon, the CEO of CBS will be fired (and sites have speculated that Redstone would replace CBS's CEO and force a merger to happen).

CBS put in a deal for Viacom but it was below their market value because they don't really need Viacom that badly, they're doing just fine on their own. However, Viacom channels are declining in viewership and Redstone wants a CBS/Viacom merger to happen NOW and threatened consequences (overthrowing the CEO of CBS) if the CEO of CBS doesn't agree to a deal soon.

CBS is now suing her to keep her out of merger talks because she is unwillingly forcing them to do something they don't want to do and that is against their interests.

Ok, had to double-check it was renewed for 22 episodes. Where it certainly isn't a first to have a mid-season start for a full season, it isn't that common.

That might be really good, though, because there won't be any breaks during the season. Blacklist has been horrible this season with having random one- or two-week breaks all the time.

I remember seeing a tweet from an Altered Carbon writer a while ago that said that they were already working on a second season. Although that was a few months ago so you'd think they'd have announced a second season by now.

From the outside looking in it seems like a weird abuse of position and power on Redstone's side. I remember reading an article where it seemed she was upset that CBS's offer for Viacom was lower then what she and them wanted. Like said though CBS is in a good position and Viacom is the side not doing good. It makes no sense CBS would offer more then they did with them being in the more favorable position and expanding the way they are. That just makes sense. I don't understand why she wants the merger so bad and wants CBS to pay even higher to do it. It makes sense that CBS would sue cause they have to protect their shareholders best interest and someone wanting them to do something that would clearly be in the negative for them needs to be addressed. They're legally obligated to do that I think.

I'm following Deadline's upfront liveblog and apparently at the NBC one they showed a trailer for Nightflyers.

Didn't say if this was the same trailer as the first look one from two months ago or a new one.

The Suits spinoff is called Suits: Second City. Makes sense for a show based in Chicago that didn't want to use the city's name in the title.

If Altered Carbon wasn't going to be renewed then I expect we would have heard by now.

I suspect the delay is that they are still figuring out what the renewal looks like- do they take the book approach and do a new Kovacs and story or do they try to sign Kinneman back up and pick up with the rest of the S1 cast? What does the budget and filming schedule look like, etc.

Why not both? You can have Kinneman back playing Riley and still have Kovacs searching for that woman, which is presumably what he's going to be doing in this next season.

I agree with the rest though. I think they are trying to figure things out and just haven't got final approval. We'll likely get something unless there's some hangup somewhere. Perhaps Netflix isn't sold on swapping the lead to a different actor?

Didn't Kinnaman already signed on to do another tv series? I doubt Netlix would be willing to wait for him.

I am sort of surprised that we haven't heard anything on Timeless yet. Maybe they just wanted viewership to not drop for the finale.

They'll renew it and then Rittenhouse will promptly change the timeline to cancellation. It's a fun show with a good cast. It's too bad it never caught on. What I did like this season is both sides eventually said screw the time altering rules to some extent. That really hamstrung the "good guys" previously.

It was my impression that he weren't going to do another season of Altered Carbon either.

I thought he backtracked on it. He isn't under contract but I thought he did come out later and say something to the effect of "never, say never."

I do doubt that he would come back but I can see Netflix being willing to wait on his schedule if they feel for whatever reason that he is an essential component of the show.

I'm convinced that ABC is going to cancel SHIELD last minute, like between 4 PM-6 PM today right before their upfront tomorrow morning so that there isn't any time for the decision to be changed by anyone before the upfronts.

I think that if they announced a cancellation last week, there would've been a chance that it got renewed for a "final season" last minute.

Not a conspiracy theory, just seems like ABC doesn't like Marvel shows at all but somehow more continue to get made and renewed with declining ratings (and I'm guessing that reason is Disney).

All I want is a 13 Episode final season order for SHIELD and I'll be happy.
Considering ABC seems to be waiting until the last hour possible (with a decision needing to be made by tonight), I'm not sure it will be renewed. If they were planning on renewing it, it would've been renewed last week. I think we see a last minute cancellation. The vast majority of ABC shows I've watched have ended in a cliffhanger so I doubt ABC cares if it ends on a big cliffhanger.

EDIT: Just read the finale was wrote as a series finale just in case.

Altered Carbon isn't worth getting worked up over. It was decent and I'd watch another season, but if it dies that's fine.

He did recently say he might do one if there is one.

And yeah Netflix isn't bound by yearly series. They can wait if they think it's better. And honestly him playing an entirely new character would be interesting for sure.

Agents of Shield? It won't. They've written it as a series finale too just in case.

At least they planned ahead and didn't get cocky lile other shows...
Just looked up that quote and they didn't even start writing that episode until they got word in March 2018 that it could be the end. Which makes me very worried about the pacing of the finale.

Altered Carbon was very mediocre, but it had a ridiculously high budget so it sure looked good. Plus there's not much cyberpunk on TV (at the moment). I'd probably watch more if they made more, but I'm not going to be upset if they don't. Regardless, the series is basically anthology so Kinnaman likely not coming back is not a surprise nor anything alarming.

Guillermo Del Toro Horror Anthology Series a Go at Netflix
Each installment of '10 After Midnight' will tell a stand-alone story, a la 'Black Mirror.'
...
The streaming giant has handed out a straight-to-series order for Guillermo Del Toro's 10 After Midnight, an individual episodic horror anthology from the Oscar winner behind The Shape of Water. An episode count and premiere date for the drama remain unclear.

Each installment of10 After Midnight will be personally curated by Del Toro, with stories described as equally sophisticated and horrific. Del Toro, who created the series, will bring his visionary style as a writer and director to certain episodes. He'll also hand-pick a team of what Netflix describes as the genre's best writers and new filmmakers to bring his selection of stories to life. Additional details about various topics and stories are being kept under wraps.
