Lol

Now that's crazy. I'll be cozied-up on my trainer in the basement, thanks!

Edit: Is that an older GT frame?

Edit 2: The longer I look at this picture the better it gets. What DON'T you have mounted to that thing?!
Ha... I have to do out to my garage. It's literally freezing in there sometimes.

As for the bike, yeah, that's an older GT frame. I've had it some time (there's a reason I call it old faithful). Frame is the only original part left though.

With regard to what I have on it. Given the conditions I'm actually running reasonably light there. Just a bivi bag, mat, sleeping bag and some food / repair stuff.

The rock put out new trainers with X. I love the design and this color but I wish it came in other colors besides green or black.

Man creatine is no joke. I've only been taking it for a few months but I can definitely see an improvment in my body and an improvement in my workouts.

So first week of Starting strenght is done :) . Feeling pretty good, my legs were sore for most of the Week and yesterdays Training especially the Squats were haaaaaard and i needed a lot of recovery between the sets.

I'm now at:
Squat: 5x 45 KG
Press : 5x 25 KG
Bench: 5x 30 Kg
Dead Lift : 55 Kg

They are paltry weights but I already feel that my lower back is happier and started doing the Limber11 to improve my mobility, will have to find some things for my upper body to include into it. Today my Legs are not that sore but feel like noodles... I'm thinking about doing some cardio work this evening, but I'm not sure if I should just give my legs rest for the next 2 days.....

You've just reminded me. There was a video on youtube highlighting some concerning new research on Creatine that I really have to dig up.

Edit - Ahh, it's just the hair loss thing. No biggy.

Yeah, recent study showing significant increases in DHT, which is basically what causes hair growth to slow / stop.

Only an issue if there's male pattern baldness in your family... which sadly in mine there is.

God I really don't want to lose my hair right now, guess I should stop then or is it too late? How long does it take for you to notice your hair falling out?

It doesn't "fall out" as such... it just grows less and less, until eventually it stops poking through your scalp.

It's a gradual process. Which in some ways I guess is worse... not that I'd want to wake up one day and find a bunch of hair on my pillow and a bald patch. :D

(Oh, and it's just one study. Maybe it's wrong, but it seems unlikely.)

I used to have an awesome beard... but now I'm so grey that it's not really an option (unless I want to look even older, and more like a vagrant).

185 OHP is some beast mode shit. Anything leg-related seems attainable to me; when I see crazy benches and OHPs I'm just like "Yeah not gonna happen" lol.

Jesus wept. Some big fucker here doing pec fly... or at least, doing something with the pec fly machine. Half repping and full on bouncing the plate stack each rep.

If it was my gym he'd be out for damaging the equipment.

If you want more information about this, look up German Volume Training.
I did 10x10s in college and it worked really well for hypertrophy. Nowadays, I think I'd die.

Alright, now I am officially at day 40 of 60. Squats really improving. 335x3 was fairly easy. Gonna go 365 next week and see how that goes.

Yes I love it. But don't go half ass on us now if you gonna do 10x10 bench then I demand you do 10x10 squats ... Which I "do" .... Quotation marks as well as I've only made 8 sets .
However to elaborate I feel at some point why bother doing leg extensions I'll just stay here on squats ( this is my crazy talk and not a suggestion for everyone) .

My goal is 10x10 at 225 squats ... Ive had back problems and no interest in super high weights anymore.... I've not made it yet but I'll get there

From what I've seen of the studies, GVT didn't turn out to be much more use for hypertrophy than many other (seemingly easier) methods.

I get that people like it as a challenge, but it's not a magic bullet. That said, if you like spending half an hour on one specific exercise, more power to you. Though if you really want a challenge, try the half hour deadlift...

Yeah, there was a study done on 10 x 10 vs 5 x 10. Infrographic summary

Great info! Now i dont need to care about 10x10 as i was gonna try to fit that in my future monthly rotations. I do 4 sets now but i guess a 5th one would house benefits then?

German volume is painful. I think I did it for 2 weeks before I got tired of it, but I am also primarily a short effort kinda guy. I think I did 225 deads 10x10 and I was hurting for the next week.

I'm only doing legs and the results for legs was unclear because the theory is that legs are more used to higher volume workload which is why many people espouse high rep training for legs. If I'm going to do 16 sets for legs I'd prefer at least half to be squats or something like it. Everyone responds different though and should find what works for them

Going bald is my biggest appearance related fear so let me go ahead and throw out my creatine because I'm not about to let that start happening

So gym is closed for a week. What do you folks do when the gym is closed? Also, when it reopens, do you compensate lost days? If so, how? Or do you just return to your regular routine?

Extremely hard to measure that though. I mean, I've never been able to actively tell whether an exercise is working for me, beyond getting better at the exercise. I sure as shit wouldn't know if it's put an extra 10% on a bicep vs other exercises. Who has access to metrics like that?

That said, fuck doing 10 sets of one exercise on legs. I like being able to use my legs on rest day. :P

Unrelated, rib seems mostly healed. However, on pushing slightly bigger weights on chest yesterday I went back to my usual problem of my shoulder feeling like it was ripping itself apart.

* sigh *

At least I'll be able to get back to full on deadlifts and squats soon though.

Oh, and a heads up for UK / EU posters...

...I recently tried two different protein bars from "Barebells" and they were delicious. I've tried over 80 different protein bars from different companies over the last few years and these were definitely amongst the best. Good macros too (often the nice tasting ones are too high in carbs).

Why won't it ever happen? Get that negativity outta here!
lmao I know, it's actually fun to feel like I still have a lot of room for progression. I'm just spoiled because I had a head start on leg progress thanks to being a former fat guy. :P

By the way, shout outs to you and Bum for sticking with your cut for this long. :D I know what a PITA it can be to get some momentum going after being loose with calories for a while. Also good to know I'm not the only one cutting during holiday season. After 90+ days most of my food temptations are muted, plus I'm getting low enough where every pound that comes off is very noticeable so I have that visual motivation to keep me on track.

Just do a deload week. Find some bodyweight exercises that are close to what you normally do. When it reopens just continue on your normal schedule, you won't lose any progress from one week off.

What's your favorites I don't mind Daryl bars , bup, protein1 ithink they're called. Questbar started that whole adding vegetable starch thing here in Canada but alot of people reported stomache gas lol

Can't say I've ever heard of those. I'll have to have a look for them.

For me, it's Grenade, Quest Bar (not as nice as they once were) and Barebells. They're the best of the "pure" protein bars (i.e., the ones without a shitload of carbs).

I swear creatine does fuck all to me.

No increase in strength, no more reps - no nothing.

The fact it may potentially cause hair loss is another reason for me to avoid it I guess.

Daryl bars may have carbs I'm not sure they are kept in the fridge and are a more natural bar which is why people like them. If you're into quest Bup has completely dominated them here . More fibre and a natural vegetables starch rather than some other stuff. I used to have a comparison chart I'll see if I can locate

So what are bup and protein1 bars different to Daryl? (I looked up Daryl, they seemed interesting, but not available in the UK)

As for creatine, sadly I very much do notice the difference for mountain biking. I think it also helps me a bit with size too (I flatten out loads if I've been off it a while).

I usually try to weasel my way into a 1 week trial at another gym. Let's me check other gyms to see if I want to switch too.

Been working on my sumo deadlifts, and they felt easy today. 255 for 6, rest 30, 4, rest, 2. Hopefully I'll be able to get back up to 315 without hurting myself again. Sumo feels wayyyyyyy better on my back. And I love being able to gently place the weights back on the ground, it makes me feel so strong.

I've been trying to add bicep curls into my workouts because I feel like they are really weak despite doing rows and pull ups. I can barely curl 35 lbs for like 4 reps, it is so annoying. Actually it's really only my left arm, which is considerably weaker than my right and I don't know why. I guess I just use my right arm more (it's my dominant side).
