There's a talisman that can trigger a Realm Shift via button input, rather than on a perfect dodge. Can't remember the name, though, sorry.

This might be too obscure since you probably only get this dialogue under very specific circumstances, but I'm having some trouble wrapping up an early-game hidden area.

I just did the whole area where you free Otr and fight the caged troll. As I was leaving Kratos and boy were talking about the lore behind the place, there was a dwarven king who sent hunting parties out to capture animals for him. At one point Atreus stops recapping the story and this exchange takes place:

Atreus: ... and I'm not sure what happened after that.

Kratos: We're still missing a clue.

A: Should we look back in the castle?

K: No, there's nothing more for us in the castle. But keep an eye out for caged dragons.

I had already freed the dragon, I'm not sure what this means. Is there a lore statue about the dragon that I missed? I ran around and couldn't find anything, probably not worth worrying about but it's annoying that I thought I had found everything and then the game makes it sound like I missed something.

I think you just triggered the dialogue. Got that too, but that was before I reached the objective.

I'm really, really liking the game, but the throw attacks feel pretty broken. I've been exploring a lot, it's been a good few hours since I got to the lake area and I still haven't gone to the area that progresses the story. I've killed a handful of level 5 enemies that could kill me in two hits by just keeping away from them and repeatedly doing the strong throw attack at their head. Definitely not the most exciting way to play but it's a little odd how easy it is to get away with it.

I don't think something would be broken just because you can cheese with it, but it sounds like you were fighting some Draugr or Reaver? Later enemies will block your axe throws or simply not flinch.

I very easily did it on a troll boss too.

I'd consider it broken from what I've seen so far. It's ranged so I'm out of danger, and it still does decent enough damage that I don't feel like I'm taking forever to chip away at an enemies health. I've only used it so far when cheesing enemies that I clearly am not supposed to be taking on yet, but in most cases it seems to me the ranged attacked is just better than melee, like if I was playing it safe I'd solely used throw attacks and I'm going out of way to mix it up just because it's more fun, not because it's necessary. I'm just surprised they didn't balance it a little differently, like make it do far less damage and make it so that strategically freezing enemies in place is the main reason to throw your axe.

I believe this doesn't last though, I'm definitely still early on in the game. And this really isn't effecting my enjoyment in any way, I was just surprised how effective the throw is compared to melee up to this point.

At the top of Muspelheim, you can look over the edge and see some sort of throne room. Is it possible to get down there somehow? I got some special keys by completing the impossible challenges, but I'm not sure if they're saved somewhere because it all reset itself after I beat the final stage at the top and got the trophy.

I also saw a treasure chest in a lava alcove on the climb up there, how do I reach that area? :)

Maybe someone has encountered this: I sometimes get "LAN cable not connected" during GoW (on PS4 Pro). I checked my network and its fine.

I actually think that it might be temperature related; it has been quite warm the past few days and the game really pushes the system; but I'm curious if someone has encountered something similar. It has enough ventilation space around the system but I'll try to improve that a bit.

yep, each area has its own collectibles. You can sell them whenever you want, I believe the description says that as well.

I'm pretty sure that the game mentions that the more items you have in a collection, the more they're worth. I'm still not sure how exactly this works. Is it like the first you sell is worth a set amount, and then the next one is worth more, and the next even more, etc. regardless of when you sell them? Or do you have to collect them all and sell them all at the same time to get the bonus?

I was assuming it was kind of like RE4, where you find treasures that go together in sets and you can sell them as you get them for a quick buck, or wait until you complete the set to get some bonus money.

Can't recall anything like that, so I either missed that, or it doesnt work like that. Did some quick googling:

Sell artifacts
Most areas have an artifact set, which is just a collection of specific items, like masks or toys, that you find lying around (sometimes in out-of-the-way places). You should always sell these. They can fetch a decent amount of hacksilver (God of War's primary currency), and they serve no other function. Plus, you don't need to wait until you have the full set; once you find an artifact, it's registered to your collection for good, so you can sell it without losing anything.

How set in stone is the mythology in this current trilogy compared to the original God of War (2005)? Finished playing the first and second game and it feels like it was after GOW2 that it began to assert its identity more confidently. I really liked GOW1, but I can see why it's considered inferior to GOW1. They could have easily made Kratos into a redemptive character, eventually becoming the defender of Olympus if they wanted to. Who was more instrumental in the creative decision they ultimately went with, David Jaffe or Corey Barlog?

And what is the chance that they'll incorporate other mythologies into this current trilogy as opposed to waiting it out until this trilogy is complete? And will anyone from the Olympus timeline appear in future games as potential heavyweights in the plot, and if so, who would be the logical candidates?

Do you mean the round building? Isn't that just the warp room with the dwarf you enter from?

For the chest: as you're climbing up, there's a spot where you can go to the left, allowing you to reach the alcove.

The controls in the game have actually strained my left hand pretty badly after playing ~8 hours over the weekend. I've actually had to stop playing for the past few days because I didn't want to worsen the pain. All the action on this game takes place on the triggers :/ Sorry I have to vent; I find the shape and angle of the depressed DS4 triggers to be so freakin' uncomfortable, they're the absolute bane of my PS4 gaming experience.

Anyway, I wish the game had better options for configuring the controls because I couldn't find anything that felt right to me.

Ok, I've gone from loving this game to slightly hating it based on these damn valkarie fights. Their ability to break your lock on is such fucking awful game design. Even if you want to make the flimsy excuse that lock on is tied to your line of sight, they still break it on certain moves, just because.

It is possible to work around, especially if you use runic attacks as combo enders (you always have a second to manually relock on) but it's clearly just a limitation of the small FOV as no other enemy has the ability to do this.

absolute crap and really has soured me on the game. I'm stuck on the queen and I've pretty much lost interest in beating her.

Well that's because you have to keep playing to know the whole story. ^^

The fight against the variant Valkeries should kinda prepare you for that. For me it helped to slightly increase the camera speed since i hate using the D-pad down button to spin 180 degrees. But for me most part I just used my Runic combo's to maximize the damage and dodge her attacks.

Well, you can change the controls. If you dont like the triggers you can use the buttons

Basically. Be sure to get a full Ivaldi's armor set for the mist protection (you don't really need to upgrade it as it starts at level 7, which is good enough), and the Eye of Niflheim enchantment from the chest that costs 2500 Mist Echoes. Other than that, do full runs of the maze where you open every chest and explore the side dead-end rooms, as Anchors of Fog can only be obtained from those rooms.

I'm near enough a full Ivaldi armour set except for wrist armour.

Also I was lost about the anchor of fog so cheers for that too. Is it possible to go fully around the maze in one go without depositing my echoes at any point?
Think I've been way too cautious in my runs so far and haven't gone fully deep into the maze. I'm assuming this is how I find the Valkyrie too?

I was prepared for it and each fight made me enjoy the game less and less and less. It's just crappy design imo. I'm dying more because of the camera than my own abilities.

Platinumed last night. Obviously an incredibly well made game, but I'd give it an 8/10. They went overboard with the upgrading of absolutely everything, crafting, rarities for stuff, looking for mats, etc. The menu and map are both a pain in the ass, and the sidequests themselves aren't that great, though I appreciate that they take you to new locations you don't get to just from following the story. I hate how everything you learn about Norse in this game is delivered from either Mimir and Lore stones. It's like they try to cram everything about every character in the mythology down your throat in the game. They talk about SO many different characters in such a passive way, and of no consequence, from Giants to Gods, I would've preferred to have just a few sublines/subplots of some substance running through the game alongside the main story and have them be significant rather than be force fed a fucking textbook on everything Norse.

Yeah, it's possible to do a full run of the maze, and that's the fastest way to get Mist Echoes. It's a lot easier once you have gear to increase your mist resistance. And yep, the Valkyrie is in the left side room (from the start, go left and continue until you reach a fork where you can go left or forward; the Valkyrie is in the left room).

I changed to my regular equipment and armor instead of my "mist gear" before opening the tears as the platform has no fog.

So, I am starting to find the combat getting way harder now that I'm (presumably) in the latter portion of the game. I'm on my way back up to the summit for the second time and level 7 and 8 enemies are spawning all the time, but my gear level is still 5 (and has been for a while). These bastards (especially revenants) can take me from full health to near death in one or two hits, and my attacks just aren't doing nearly enough damage. Any advice? Is there some good gold gear I can go get before I try to make this trek again?

I stopped playing last night after the Hidden Chamber in the Foothills killed me nine times in a row.

Question about the Realm Tears. Specifically getting all 18. I will Spoiler it as I am not sure if it is cool or not to discuss.

The game says I only have 2 real tears left to open. I just did the one by our house in the Odin Chamber (turns out that was my last Hidden Chamber needed as well). I have not yet done any of the 3 realm tears in Neflheim. For awhile now the game was saying I had 3 realm tears left so I figured it was the ones in Neflheim, but now since it is saying I only have 2 Realm Tears left thanks to the one by our house, I am thinking maybe the ones in Neflheim do not count???

If anyone can answer the above it would be greatly appreciated. It means the difference of me trying to track down and locate the tears or knowing exactly where they are. The thing is the math is just not adding up.

I finally beat the damn queen earlier today, so this is really me just attempting to get my first Platinum trophy ever. I just usually do not care but I enjoy the game so much I figure why not try.

Do side quests and favors. Explore all the realms more.

I have done a lot of that. I think I'm at like 70% completion on Midgard and I don't know where the last two codex pieces to open Niflheim are.

Have you tried upgrading armor? Have you been to muspelheim? Lots of loot to upgrade armor there. Don't forget to backtrack if you haven't already and get to previously inaccessible areas.

My current armor is at max and I can't upgrade it any higher. I could craft some Muspel gear, but all of it seems shitty and prioritizes stats I don't want. And I only have enough fire resources to build it, not upgrade it, which means I'd be stuck with level 4 armor.

You still have a ways to go in the story, too. Perhaps you've already done these though:

Use Atreus to summon attacking animals. Upgrade your armor pieces to get more enchantment sockets. Sell green armor you're no longer using and upgrade your Axe pommels with the proceeds. Dump your XP into fully maxing out Atreus, and upgrade your skill trees and use parry and sprint to your advantage. Don't forget to upgrade the light and heavy rune attacks you are using, I didn't until very late in the game because I was dumb. Without leaning into upgrading and using all your skills (block, dodge, parry, bare-hand, runes, Atreus summons, rage, talisman), hidden chambers will wreck you until very-late game.

My gear was not level 7 until well into post-game (I never visited Muspelheim or Niflheim until post-game), so 5 is a good number.
