I'd say so, it's still got a pretty decent online community going. The season pass alone doubles the content from the base game, and the bikes DLC (separate from the season pass) is just as good.
I need to join another team. The one I started is effectively dead considering I got a PSN ban and now basically have zero progress on my current/new PSN ID.

Does anyone know if this is better than FORZA HORIZON 3?

They're both arcade racers?

Driveclub isn't really an arcade racer. It's more of a sim-lite like a PGR.

The game itself has a ton of content if you get version that includes the season pass:

https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP9000-CUSA00093_00-PSPLUSSEASONPASS

Its more PGR, GRID than Horizon 3.
If you only have a ps4, get Driveclub.
If you only have a Xbox, get FH3

If you have both, get both. There like pennies right now.

ah ok thx Team!

I love racing games and have been jonesing for a new take on the PGR formula. Is Driveclub the best incarnation of Project Gotham??
That is correct, DC was spiritual more or less successor to PGR, so much so that it even mate its fate.... :(

My all time fav game, only second that to Rally Sport Challange 2.

Let's be best friends.

For what it's worth, my old club in DC was "Kings of Kudos". Lame, but I had to put a nod to PGR in there somewhere. Even had PGR-coloured liveries (I'll post photos later).

Club Level 3: Bentley Continental GT V8 (Sports)
Club level 6: BMW M3 GTS (Performance)
Club Level 10: BAC Mono (Super)

Sucks that your "club" is useless if you're on your own. I thought people told me this could be fully enjoyed without any of the online stuff? :P I guess I'll have to find a club or something.

Eventhough I have friends in the club, I unlocked the cars myself since they don't play the game that much. So it's perfectly doable. EDIT: In fact, I just reached club level 31. ;)

I just added the Club cars to my previous post.

Thanks.

If your club becomes active later on do your points get added to it or does it start from scratch?

I think you need to be in the club to accumulate points for it. So all the points collected before joining wouldn't be counted.
Sheeit. I'm not sure if anyone on my friends list plays this game anymore. This kinda sucks to be honest, what if I want to play with my own personal livery too? I can't, cuz my "club" doesn't count.

All the positive reactions made me want to jump in too but it's not digitally available for me in the euro store, odd.

edit: oh never mind you need PS+ to even buy the game.

No, that's just a special price for PS+ subs. It should be available on the store, try to search by price high to low.

You don't have to use the club livery to accumulate points, but I just googled and apparently you need to have at least two members in the club. If you want, send me a PSN friend request (the ID can be found in my profile), and I'll add you to my club. That way you'll have all club cars unlocked right from the start.

I have experienced the infamous Driveclub darkness. Fuck me I literally can't see shit in some tracks.

I'm trying to get my head around how drifting works in this game, I'm not sure I get it. I'm more of a Ridge Racer kinda guy, and drifting here almost feels counterproductive.

Don't bother doing the drifting events while you're in a race unless you're in a great place already. Ignore them for now. You'll be able to do them much later once you really understand all the subtle things in driveclub physics.

If you're talking about regular races, drifting usually isn't the most efficient way to get through corners. Just trying to hit the apex correctly will net better results. Don't pay attention to other people's drift scores if you're playing for time/position. Those, as well as other challenges that come up on the fly just give you some bonus XP. Also keep in mind that you don't need to beat all 3 star objectives for a race in one go (at least not until some of the later DLC tours).

If you're talking specifically about drift events, you can use R2 to drift, but with a lot of cars it's much easier to initiate a drift with O (handbrake). Try to swerve your car lightly before tapping handbrake (don't hold it) to help you initiate the drift. As he drift starts, you can control it by either adding gas if you still got room, or braking lightly (R2 this time) if you're in danger of leaving the road with all 4 wheels, as that will negate the drift score in most cases. If you're turning sideways too much, counter steer. Typically you want to get the car drifting at a sharp angle, because it will give you the most points during the drift itself and it will let you maintain a good speed, which is important for the speed zones (yellow) inbetween drift zones (orange).

Here are two random examples of me doing drift events with some slower class cars:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42ptIb4_RcI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTsIFl7gI98

Not perfect attempts by any means, but more than enough to beat the events and done exclusively with the handbrake. In fact, i do all my drifting with O and have never had serious problems beating a drift tour event. As i said, drifting in this game isn't necessarily a competitive mechanic like in a Ridge Racer or many kart racing games, so i wouldn't recommend relying on it in actual races, but it's a perfectly fine mechanic for doing drift events. Once you get the hang of it the 3 star scores on all of them are all reasonably achievable.

Hmm I guess I'll leave drifting along for now, thanks for the tips though.

Not being able to see is super annoying however. Biggest gripe with the game right now. So many of these races just look dim.

Wait until you drive a hyper car with heavy snowfall in the dead of night. :D
Seriously though, any specific races where it particularly bothered you? I guess it could just be that i know the tracks by heart by now, but for the most part i don't have any negative memories of playing night races.

I'm not familiar with the tracks and the game does such an awful job at letting you know the name of the track you're gonna be driving on I really couldn't tell you. :P Not even night races, just overcast stuff in the afternoon. This is the "darkest" game I can remember playing. Everything looks really opaque.

I always find it fascinating when they choose which games they decide to do that with. Some with very negligible changes compared to launch too.

While others sitting as a hot mess (looking at you MCC) they never went back to adjust those 90+ initial pre-launch scores/reviews, or this one that literally did a 180 and added a plethora of post launch content, even when they knew they were getting shut down.

The re-review trend that made noise like a paper tiger always felt hollow and something that would never see a genuine reality.

Fair point on track names, some of the logos can be hard to decipher sometimes. Regarding your clarification, i have to admit that i don't have a good answer other than that it never bothered me. Maybe try fiddling around with the brightness setting and different time of day settings? I hope you'll be able to enjoy the game regardless.

It might not necessarily help with your problem, but the flags on each corner are great for indicating exactly what kind of corner is coming up. From memory (it's been a LONG time), green are easy corners, yellow medium and red are hard, and they appear on the outside of the turn.

Nope, it's pretty bland, hence the flop. Get Horizon 3.
Because they're TOTALLY on the same console and TOTALLY the same kind of game.

Ugh.

There's a brightness setting in options that you can tweak at any time. It helps.

Also, play around with filters. During a race hit the right half of the touchpad, that'll bring up the photo mode. Hit square for settings, fifth option down is filters. You can set the one you want with the percentage of effect you want. Then hit circle to exit. A pop up will come up to exit and pick "ok, race with filter".

It's an amazing feature I wish more games had.

For example, I like the cold filter for a bluish tint, but only at about 10-18%, so it's more subtle.
Or if miss the old Codemasters yellow bloom, you vacancy replicate that. Ha

But it's the better game, that's why I answered with that, stop overreacting over it. It's just a game.

I got the free version they released with PS+ but everything is about locked until you buy the DLC, it's confusing what you need to get for the complete experience.

That's fine. People just get so pissy out of the nowhere because someone surprisingly don't like their favorite game that didn't do well.

Well, the OP asked specifically about DC, not if there are other options on other platforms. So, in that sense I understand the reaction to a post that came out of nowhere. Not to mention, that if someone's specifically set his eyes on a track racer, an open world racer won't be the same. Personally, I've hated them ever since Burnout Paradise.

I mean... there's really not a lot of good options on the PS4 so... sure. Driveclub SUPER wasn't worth it in 2014, but it's added quite a bit of content since launch and if you're looking for a pretty barebones arcade style racer that still looks good, it's quite serviceable. Like really good looking but completely unseasoned mashed potatoes.

I still boot it up every so often to remind myself how much I don't actually like it personally.

Yes. It's a must have if you like Arcade Racers and it's only glaring flaw is not having a PS4 Pro patch.

If you're very competitive then NO. It's far too addictive. Between the time trials and racing leader boards, you'll end up losing hours upon hours without actually making much progress.

Recently I installed it and played it for a week straight only to realize just how fast the hours were flying by and that I was hooked onto the feel of the game without any self control. I uninstalled it promptly after.

I was there when the game was released, and apart from the online functions it was perfectly fine then, even more so now. It also had more tracks day one than any previous Evolution racer, and I imagine most other arcade racers as well. So, I don't really see how it's supposed to be barebones and unseasoned, unless you just really don't like arcade-ish racers with good old tracks.

Pissy out of nowhere? You're original post was kind of that. You dropped into the thread, brought up an unrelated game on a different platform and insulted the game in question. What's the purpose? THAT is truly out of nowhere and really doesn't add anything to the discussion. I don't think you can objectively claim one is superior to the other either since they aren't really comparable outside of the fact that they both feature cars.

I dunno, maybe I'm wearing some kinda thick nostalgia glasses, but I'm remembering the console arcade racers of old and they just felt more complete and with some real depth beyond "here's a ton of tracks". Driveclub just feels pretty simple by comparison. Which is perfectly fine if that's what you're looking for, because what it does provide it does so in great amounts.
