I figured The CW probably has a very good reason for passing - beyond just clashing with Charmed - considering how consistently strong the Supernatural fanbase has been.

'Arrested Development' Stars Get Pay Bumps After "Recut" Episode Complaints (Exclusive)

The cast of Netflix's Arrested Development are getting their back pay.

Two weeks after The Hollywood Reporter reported that the stars of the revived comedy from 20th Century Fox Television took issue with the expanded and "recut" fourth season of the Netflix comedy, the studio has agreed to pay the cast for seven additional episodes. Actors including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera and David Cross, among others, will receive additional compensation based on the sliding scale that was used to determine their original season four salaries.

Representatives from 20th TV and Netflix declined to comment.

The dispute, another example of the TV industry's complex economics, erupted after the stars were not happy creator Mitch Hurwitz and 20th TV re-edited the 15-episode fourth season to become a full 22 with the hope of providing a new lure for fans as well as landing a lucrative syndication deal for the series.

Good to see they're getting paid.

That Charmed synopsis reads like a parody, then I remembered it's the Jane the Virgin team, so it probably is.

Legends anchoring Arrow is funny.

Wayward Sisters won't be doin' it for themselves this fall — and now we know why. Explaining his network's decision not to order the high-profile Supernatural spinoff to series, CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters early Thursday, "We are big fans of the characters and the women who played those characters. But we did not feel creatively that the show was where we wanted it to be. And we felt we had a better shot with [Originals spinoff] Legacies."

Did NBC ever cancel Champions? It's a show I expected to not come back but I don't recall reading news on it going either way.

Keeping fingers crossed that Legacies bombs despite having Supernatural as its lead-in. ;p

Also pretty crazy how Legends will now be aired before Arrow.

I get it from a ratings standpoint since the shows don't anchor their nights as well anymore, but bundling all my comic shows to the start of the week

Sounds like PR fluff. There's no way that a spinoff of The Originals does better than Wayward Sisters for them. And they're going to air it after Supernatural? Get ready to have Supernatural viewers angrily change the channel.

Definitely one of the most nonsensical decisions I've seen from a network in years.
That was PR speak for "the show wasn't good enough". I don't see how it was fluff. They know that a Supernatural spin-off would probably have a better shot, it means that Wayward Sisters clearly wasn't ready to air.

Brad Kern Steps Down As 'NCIS: New Orleans' Showrunner After Misconduct Investigations, Chris Silber Replaces Him
Brad Kern is exiting his role as executive producer/showrunner of NCIS: New Orleans. He will serve as consultant on the series going forward. NCIS: New Orleans executive producer Chris Silber has been named new showrunner.

The move comes months after word surfaced in December that Kern had been been the subject of two Human Resources investigations by CBS TV Studios while working on the studio's popular CBS crime procedural. Both reportedly were triggered by complaints from co-workers about a hostile work environment on the show.
Known for his sometimes abrasive behavior that I hear has led to at least one staff departure, Kern's name began coming up in the context of the crackdown on sexual harassment in Hollywood in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Two high-profile showrunners, Andrew Kreisberg (The Flash, Supergirl) and Mark Schwahn, were ousted following brief investigations into sexual harassment accusations by the studios they work for.

The only thing that is surprising is how long this took, wonder if anything will come of the Pauley Perrette allegations (which I don't think are directly related to this)

We know the show was good enough. The fan reaction was very positive. That's why they're upset about this but not when Bloodlines wasn't picked up.

A backdoor pilot isn't an indication of the scripts being delivered behind the scene. Pre-production could've been a disaster and they were turning in junk.

They're not going to trash the series but there was probably significant issues if they had that many open spots and it couldn't get it in.

I have no idea what God Friended Me is, but they were filming outside my apartment in March, so that will get them one episode out of me.

Did Wayward Sisters actually film a conventional pilot or is the backdoor pilot the only bit of show ever to be filmed?

Sorry, I don't buy that excuse from the network that gave Dynasty a second season. I also firmly believe there is no way that a spinoff of The Originals is somehow a noticeably higher quality than Wayward Sisters.

I think the idea that they thought it would be too close to Charmed is the most likely reason. Which is nonsense, of course.

Did you already know the title back when they were filming near you? Or did you see the trailer and recognize your neighborhood?

I kind of want to run into filming at some point. I know a couple things have been shot in Philadelphia so maybe I should try actually going to the areas they are

Dynasty got a second season probably due to CW's deal with Netflix.

Dynasty makes sense because of Netflix. Legacies makes sense because if you don't do a spinoff now in the TVD universe then that universe is dead. The Supernatural universe isn't dead with them passing on WS. Plus, they're probably afraid the Sam/Dean shippers won't stick with WS for too long. :P

What the hell was that Seal Team ending? I knew something was up with Jason but still, what an odd ending.

Also loved the little moment between the two dogs before boarding the plane.

Still, I enjoyed the season, really great show, happy that it got a second season, I just hope the quality doesn't suffer.

When walking around, at least here in NYC, you'll see these colored signs taped to poles that say like no parking or filming scheduled, then list the dates and times and "Project Name."

When I was coming home from work in March, I saw one that said God Friended Me. I was actually out of town in Austin during the scheduled days, but there's a huge church across the street from me, so I'm assuming they were filming outside of that.

For me it's really hard to believe that's true and writers/showrunners should lose jobs if the final product was indeed a steaming pile of shit. They've had around 2 years to prepare for the spin-off and all the Supernatural episodes they've done with these characters were okay/good/great. And even if they didn't have enough material for a full season they could've ordered a 13 episodes season and delay it to midseason to work on improvements.

Ah cool. That's pretty interesting. The church in the trailer seemed pretty big so I guess you are right about them filming outside of it.

Just the backdoor pilot.
Should have done a pilot at the very least. The show had to stand on its own without Jenson and Jarad. A pilot would have shown that much more clearly and showed how different the show as going to be. Honestly I felt the first backdoor pilot episode they did for the Bloodlines spin off idea showed how much more different another show within that universe could be.

I'm calling bullshit.

Same showrunners, proven universe and characters that are popular, with actresses that are well known and liked by the fanbase, with a potential for Sam & Dean to appear as guest stars and have cross over events.

I'm thinking that there was some behind the doors push, and in the end for some reason the producers behind the Vampire Diaries shows had more clout as visibly The CW wasn't going to greenlight both shows.

Fuck Vampire Diaries and "The Originals", is where I'm at. I hope it crashes and burns.

You could say the same thing about the various attempts to spin off Babylon 5 (and other failed spinoffs over the years).

Pilots are passed on every year that have super impressive pedigrees. It happens. Doesn't always mean there is a big conspiracy afoot. Sometimes the creative stuff doesn't align. It's especially challenging on network TV when schedules are rigid so they don't have the same freedom that HBO and the like have to just keep developing and iterating.

I'm really bummed that instead of getting a promising looking supernatural spinoff, we are getting a spinoff of a vampire diaries spinoff. Just let that universe die already.

Well considering that Vampire Diaries and The Originals at their best were way better than Supernatural ever was it's not that hard for me to believe Legacies will be better than Wayward Sisters. The backdoor pilot was a pretty weak episode of a show that is way past its prime. I really don't think the mass Supernatural audience would have watched it.

But hey, keep citing irrelevant shit like fan petitions if it makes you feel better.

what. have you been alive more than 20 years?

Its good to see the follow up conversation before responding to an old post. As I mentioned later, I dont think it aired widely internationally, because I was certainly aware of other 1997 shows like Newsradio, Moesha, Mad About You, Frasier, Home Improvement, Touched by an Angel, Sister Sister, Ally McBeal, Dawsons Creek, Buffy, 7th Heaven, JAG, Just Shoot Me...

Well, you get the point.

I love this tweet.

If the CW ever lost him they'd be FUCKED.

Is he responsible for the superhero crap?

The sooner hes out the better, I miss having quality shows on.
