Its good to see the follow up conversation before responding to an old post. As I mentioned later, I dont think it aired widely internationally, because I was certainly aware of other 1997 shows like Newsradio, Moesha, Mad About You, Frasier, Home Improvement, Touched by an Angel, Sister Sister, Ally McBeal, Dawsons Creek, Buffy, 7th Heaven, JAG, Just Shoot Me...

Murphy Brown may have run to 1997 but its peak relevance was basically late 80s/early 90s (ie when Dan Quayle was VP).

Ah yes, all those superhero shows taking away from all those quality shows that were airing on The CW

Truly the Dawn Ostroff years were the best

No, Im thinking about QUALITY shows like Crazy Ex Girlfriend, IZombie, The 100, and Whos Line is it Anyway.

Theyre all relegated to the dumpster so we can have another superhero fest set in the same soundstage.

You want to talk quality older shows? Gossip Girl, Everybody Hates Chris, Veronica Mars, Reba, The Game,

Ugh, I remember those days. The pinnacle of her run was during the transition from The WB/UPN to The CW and they decided that renewing 7th Heaven for an 11th season, even though the series had already finished, was a better idea than renewing Everwood. Funnily enough, Everwood was created by Greg Berlanti.

Um, all the current shows you list had way longer runs than they should have given their ratings. I'm not sure how an iZombie, Crazy Ex or 100 fan can be mad at The CW.

Relegated to the dumpster?

You realize those quality shows wouldn't exist without the superhero shit propping up the network, right? What do you think would happen to a network full of shows that averaged a 0.2? None of those shows would've lived past one season anywhere else.

The superhero shows are the top watched shows on the CW and the ones you listed are all in the bottom half. They're in the "dumpster" because not enough people watch them.

Should have done a pilot at the very least. The show had to stand on its own without Jenson and Jarad. A pilot would have shown that much more clearly and showed how different the show as going to be. Honestly I felt the first backdoor pilot episode they did for the Bloodlines spin off idea showed how much more different another show within that universe could be.

Bloodlines was actually an example how to create a spin-off that doesn't have anything to do with the original show. They could've ditched the SN universe and no one would notice. Imo with Supernatural it's really hard to make another (good) show that won't be primarily about 'saving people, hunting things'.

Sounds like PR fluff. There's no way that a spinoff of The Originals does better than Wayward Sisters for them. And they're going to air it after Supernatural? Get ready to have Supernatural viewers angrily change the channel.

Definitely one of the most nonsensical decisions I've seen from a network in years.
Yeah, that seems like a risky movie depending on a fanbase you just scorned and have a tendency to retaliate to prop up a show that got chosen over their preferred spinoff.

Yep, iZombie's getting a final season with CBS produced CW show numbers. There's nothing to complain about there.

Oh good lord The CW opened their upfronts with a live performance from Thirty Seconds to Mars. Could they have picked a worse band for the news cycle right now? If this were a public event they'd get crucified.

Cole Sprouse was on stage immediately afterward too, that's painful.

Is The 100 even announced as a final season? Seems like it's doing pretty well by The CW standards.
Nope! Just Jane, iZombie and Crazy Ex are confirmed ending. Whose Line and The 100 are just plain renewed.

Jesus, JTV, CEG, and iZombie ending?!? I get it but that will be a huge loss. Those are all the good shows on CW.

11:31 AM: Pedowitz touts Legacies, CW's The Originals spinoff, which he forecasts will show the "same kind of devotion and social engagement" as has The Originals which, in turn, is a spinoff of Vampire Diaries. "No other network uses digital and social like the CW," Pedowitz boasts. Because Legacies went straight to series from script, and late in development season, he has no clip to show media buyers.

Straight to series from script? The hits keep coming to WS fans. :P

I think these might be the only new CW trailers we're getting:

All American looks well put together, but High-school dramas aren't really my thing.

Charmed... uh. Yeeeeeeeesh.

Wooowwwwwwww, Charmed looks extremely bad. And I don't understand the whole Legacies thing. Vampire Diaries and the Originals are cancelled and do not seem to be a heavy hitter in the ratings... so why do they think a spin off of a spin off is going to be successful...? Doesn't Supernatural do better than the Originals?

Charmed will be a solid contender for the lowest ratings in the 2018/19 season (well, maybe for the second place, Dynasty is surely going to be a "winner"). They've put it on a new night for the CW and it looks like total crap, nothing like the original show which was my guilty pleasure back in the day.

Charmed looks not great. I expected a more jokey tone. It's from the Jane the Virgin team, a show that was big on the subversion of expectations and tropes. Also the two younger sisters (despite the actors being 12 years different in age) looking kind of inhumanely similar. The oldest one is a half sister at least. Weird.

I'm reading the thread. All i see is "dude messaging 18 year old girls". So? There's no law against that. And since when is messaging someone a problem?
I'm not going to do your work for you. There's plenty of shit out there about Leto, it has nothing to do with messaging models.

CWlogic. Nobody can understand what they are doing anymore.

Yep. The network is the best it has ever been now.

Hell, I'm watching 8 hours of it in the fall.

One of the only times I can think of when I've agreed with dead souls, but the same for me.

The CW is my most watched network right now. And where I realize there are better written shows than the superhero shows, I still love them. They are good popcorn fun and would hate to see them end.

Yeah, I couldn't tell them apart. Which helps sell the idea that they're sisters, but still confusing.

'City On A Hill': Showtime Picks Up Drama From Ben Affleck & Matt Damon To Series
Showtime has handed a 12-episode series order to City On A Hill, its drama drama pilot starring Kevin Bacon (The Following) and Aldis Hodge (Underground). The series, executive produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, will premiere in 2019.

Written by Chuck MacLean (Boston Strangler) and based on an original idea by Affleck, City On A Hill is set in early 1990s Boston when the city was rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm, until it suddenly all changed. The drama is a fictional account of what was called the "Boston Miracle." Driving that change is assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge), who comes from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rhodes (Bacon). Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to involve, and ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.

Day ? Still no news on Timeless. My mind is unable to focus, all I can think about is Rufus. I must get answers. I must...

Anyway, as a fan of the original Charmed and JtV that looked worse than the Magnum PI reboot. It is nothing like the original series. Same house, similar powers, same name, that's it. Where are my strong female characters? Why am I getting this angsty teenage garbage? Wayward Sisters had competent women this has whiny charictures, not watching.
