Very close between Uncharted and God of war. They are almost neck to neck in terms of their masterful art direction and attention to detail.
I found that Uncharted inches past GoW in terms of pure awe and beauty of the set-pieces but GoW has better more detailed materials overall and extremely sharp particle effects so these little things put GoW above Uncharted. it's a close call though and both games represent an absolute pinnacle of visual splendour in gaming, in my personal opinion.

I voted for Horizon Zero Dawn but Uncharted 4 to me is undefeated in certain aspects. HZD for a open world game looks mindblowing and is much more consistent compared to God of War which can look bad. HZD never looks bad to me.

Wtf is this? Those are in-game screencaps of UC4? Because I don't recall anything looking that photo realistic.

Horizon easily. That game still makes my jaw drop.

I still think Uncharted 4 edges it over Horizon and God of War (played all three on the Pro).

Saying that all of Sony's first party games are astounding looking.

God of War and it's not even close. Horizon just isn't nearly as technically sophisticated, it has a very cartoony/flat look in comparison. not that a cartoonish art style is a bad thing but it's just not as impressive on a technical level.

GOW is much more grounded looking and the materials are more robust. Horizon is an open world game and it shows very clearly.

I can't fathom how anyone can claim that any one of these spectacular-looking games beats out the others by anything but the slimmest of margins.

Regardless of your choice or reasoning, it's incredibly close.

God of War for me. I liked the art a tad more in HZD, but technically was more impressed by the graphics on GoW.

I fully expect Detroit to blow minds graphics wise.

So much less power devoted to open worlds and gameplay. Will be fun to see the comparison threads.

There is a reason why Horizon ZD is in the lead, its the overall best looking game despite being open world.

I think Horizon because considering it's a full open world game,it's pretty impressive. God of war comes second

None of these are cutscenes. Just amazing. I've got God of War screenshots, but none that aren't spoilery.

Notice that Aloy still has the scar from the Proving.

When I see pics of Horizon or those doctored Sunhi-gifs, I'm always hugely impressed. But I was not really impressed when I actually played the game. Kinda weird. Maybe I just don't really pay attention to the visuals when I'm concentrating on the compass marker. :P

God of War easily impressed me more on a continued basis, just aesthetically. There's a lot of variety in this game, plenty of environments have a hand-crafted feel to them, unlike the more rubber stamp-like nature of Horizon.

Horizon is the only game I've played this generation where my jaw dropped to the floor. It almost felt like I was playing the MGS 2 demo back in the day again.

Y'all gotta put some respect on Naughty Dog's name...

2nd one's covered by effects.

That's how it looks in-game. I mostly completely refrain from any enhancing effects or filters when taking photos, I just work with the camera. I want a game to look like the original artists intended it to look.
To be completely honest, I didn't find a more fitting comparison pic on the fly. ;)

I'm sayin' those are poor comparison shots because the conditions aren't similar enough. Not that they're edited.

I went GoW but it was very close between that and Uncharted. I honestly did not like the way Horizon looked it had its moments but something about the characters just didn't work and threw me off.

Yeah indeed he is right. The end of the area there obviously was given a lot of attention, but other places in U4 also look downright amazing too. The mansion when they are younger also looks amazing for indoor stuff. And Drake's house nearer to the middle. No one has ND beat when it comes to that kind of detail IMO.

Horizon NPCs are also ridiculously detailed. And the foliage plus night plus hunting sequences are unmatched to me for gameplay experience.

IDK man areas near the big city are pretty spectacular in Horizon. You are selling it short. At night hunting a croc while the moon shades over a bunch of ruins? That is unmatched by Uncharted or GoW to me. They all do something the other does not in places. Horizon looks amazing on a Pro for a large open world, and for a game in general. It might not pick up for a bit, but when you get going I think it shows you a lot of cool places. ND is king of micro detail probably. But Horizon by far has the coolest looking NPCs, and GG's foliage is also well done.

It's hard to say with how people view a coherent, cohesive game and its world with just purely tech specs on a certain part. I still cannot see how you are not impressed with Horizon has it goes along its path across the map. That doesn't make much sense to me, and I have a high-end PC as well.

It doesn't make much sense to me. I can't explain it. But it is a pretty looking game. I dunno, I might have expected too much maybe. Like I've seen people most timelapse gifs of Horizon's clouds, and it looks amazing. I look at the clouds during night time in Meridian and they look like low-res blobs.

Not as technically sophisticated? Horizon is over a year old, and its DLC was stunning. I am not sure how you think it looks cartoony or flat. I would need logical descriptions with pictures to understand this. It has a stylized look, but so do the other two games as well. Saying GoW is not even close to Uncharted or Horizon is a purely ridiculous and incompetent statement, but not more so than saying Horizon is not as technically sophisticated LOL.

Horizon is doing an open world at checkerboard settings on a Pro with nearly perfect image quality and tons of enemies wandering about with clearly amazing animation. Trust me the technical specs of GG's engine hold up just fine to SM. And so goes with ND as well.

Playing Horizon right now and I honestly thought U4 was significantly better.

But horizon is still great for open world

I mean I can see where people think Horizon lacks a bit of micro detail. It doesn't have anything quite like the stylized but somewhat photorealistic rooms of Uncharted, but it also has a lot of things going for its visual aesthetic and technical details that are fairly apparent for such a large game.

Saying what game looks better I realize is always going to end up as a useless task.

I tend to favor large parts of Uncharted 4, but places in Horizon are unmatched for visuals within gameplay for me. I have not yet had a ton of time with GoW. It too has some great stuff. Hard to say really, but they are all close to me.

I feel like UC4/LL is more consistent all across the board. It doesn't hit checkerboard 4K but it's still probably the nicest anyway.

Still Horizon and GOW blew me away.

How long before people realise that tiny GIFs are in no way representative of a how a game looks?

As much as I like GoW as a game (absolutely 10/10 fantastic), and as stunning as some of the vistas and landscapes are, it has some jarringly low-tech assets and physics. Every time I see the static hair I imagine Kratos waking each morning and running a fistful of bacon grease through his beard, then topping it off with extra-hold hairspray. You could argue that's on purpose and in-character, however the grass and tree "physics" are also look dated. That's especially visible when contrasted with some of these Horizon clips (which I admittedly have not yet played). Said issue is also seen in cloth/clothes physics. So, soft-body physics (if I'm using the term correctly) is something game trails behind in. Someone else mentioned the skin shader and I agree: in most scenes Kratos's skin looks like albino football leather.

These are quibbles in an otherwise very good looking game, but if we're talking about best on PS4 then what I've seen of Horizon puts it ahead.

IMO TBQH

Horizon looks fine until the characters open their mouths. Uncharted is still king with God of War following closely behind

why would you create a thread about it and get spoiled instead of finding out for yourself? :) Heard good things about all the titles you've listed when it comes to visuals so they won't look average. (only played UC4 without lost legacy)

Edit: I see, looks like you've already played them.

I'm only just playing Horizon now and it's pretty amazing how beautiful it is, I'm getting sucked in but not like I was for god of war.

The thing that makes my jaw drop in Horizon is how much of the world there isn't anything for the character to do that is still absolutely beautiful to look at and I wonder how much effort they put into areas that sometimes nobody will even see. I mean how many people explore every single nook and cranny of an open world game? I just wish I could climb any rock wall that looks climbsble like in breath of the Wild.

Weird, the beard hair and costume fur of my Kratos sways realistically in the wind at all times.

Kratos' skin is covered in a permanent layer of white ashes. There's a very plausible reason his skin shader lacks the usual warmth and softness.
